I live near a park, so we get a lot of tourists in the area.

Today, some girl visiting the park ordered herself an uber eats delivery to specifically my exact address so I had a driver knocking on my door. I thought he must be in the wrong place so asked to look at the address so I could direct him, as that sometimes happens, but it was my full address on there! It's quite an obscure address as well as it has a different postcode to the rest of the street and the house has a name instead of a number, which we don't display so you would need to look it up to get the whole thing. There was even a description in the delivery instructions.

She wasn't close by to receive the delivery either and the poor driver was really confused and awkward and was trying to call her and she didnt pick up her phone, and he was stuck waiting there for quite a while going are you sure it's not yours, you dont know anyone called name that could have sent it, it's been paid for so I have to deliver it, the person who ordered it needs to be at the address it's ordered to. I felt so bad for him.

AIBU to think that is blo*dy rude?! I might not have minded if she had asked first or had been around to receive it but to me I just think its really inconsiderate. When she finally turned up I asked her if she didnt think it was a bit inappropriate and rude and told her not to ever do it again and she just acted like I had been super offensive and sarcastically told me to have a nice day.

Some tourists can be so lovely and others are just so self absorbed.

Pink Tonic actually sometimes I have to stay on site for hours on end. It means limiting fluid intake too as I can't go for a pee, never mind pop for a sandwich.

Gooseberry and cinnamon yoghurt! Grin

First we were being told that this is ok because the householder won’t realise, so no harm done. Now we have posters mocking people who don’t want people hanging around outside their address.

Look, I really don’t care if you think I’m uptight and snobbish, so jeer away. What bothers me is that many posters have now said they wouldn’t like this - so we have a fair inkling that in any given situation the householder probably doesn’t want you doing it - and yet we have more and more far fetched examples of why it's ok to do, essential even. If you know people don’t like it and you insist on doing it anyway, then it’s selfish - just own it.

ClafoutisSurprise · 05/04/2021 19:13

(I mean, I can’t get worked up where the householder will genuinely never know - one pp said they wait in the vicinity but don’t actually stand outside any one house, which is thoughtful - but some of the comments on here suggest a large minority wouldn’t make that a condition of doing this.)

PurpleCrocuses · 05/04/2021 22:01

I'm surprised drivers are allowed to hand it over to someone not actually in the house - what if people in the park saw a deliveroo driver coming down the road and decided to intercept it when it was actually ordered by the occupants? Do they check the names?
I wouldn't order something to a private residence (pub or hotel is fair game imo) but I always write "I'll be waiting in the car park - woman in red sweater" or something in the notes to the delivery driver section. So they know not to knock on the door.

You can all use my address for this if you want. I recommend the beef in chilli and garlic sauce from my local Chinese, with fried rice. And a can of Coke. Promise not to eat it!
I recently had pineapple fried rice for the first time. Highly recommended!

Ditto salt and pepper chips, which only Chinese takeaways know how to make properly.

I love Chinese food but somehow I don’t think eating it straight from the containers would be very appealing.

Astoundingly rude and entitled.

The correct response is to take the food and stand in the front window eating it while maintaining direct eye contact with the CF at all times.
