Cheeky tourist used my address for their takeaway!!

I live near a park, so we get a lot of tourists in the area.

Today, some girl visiting the park ordered herself an uber eats delivery to specifically my exact address so I had a driver knocking on my door. I thought he must be in the wrong place so asked to look at the address so I could direct him, as that sometimes happens, but it was my full address on there! It's quite an obscure address as well as it has a different postcode to the rest of the street and the house has a name instead of a number, which we don't display so you would need to look it up to get the whole thing. There was even a description in the delivery instructions.

She wasn't close by to receive the delivery either and the poor driver was really confused and awkward and was trying to call her and she didnt pick up her phone, and he was stuck waiting there for quite a while going are you sure it's not yours, you dont know anyone called name that could have sent it, it's been paid for so I have to deliver it, the person who ordered it needs to be at the address it's ordered to. I felt so bad for him.

AIBU to think that is blo*dy rude?! I might not have minded if she had asked first or had been around to receive it but to me I just think its really inconsiderate. When she finally turned up I asked her if she didnt think it was a bit inappropriate and rude and told her not to ever do it again and she just acted like I had been super offensive and sarcastically told me to have a nice day.

Some tourists can be so lovely and others are just so self absorbed.

The question we all want to know....(well I do as im greedy but only have a takeaway once every 6 weeks) is what was it, I need to know how annoyed to be that you didn't just eat it!

FelicityBeedle · 04/04/2021 19:57

Nothing wrong with doing that, as long as you hover at the address and explain what you’re doing in the instructions

ExhaustedGrinch · 04/04/2021 19:58

I'd be fucked off because what if you were sleeping? Working night shifts? Baby sleeping? etc then you get woken up because some entitled prick sees fit to order takeaway to your house.

I had a takeaway driver (I hadn't ordered anything) sneak around into my back garden about 10pm the other night, knocking loudly on my kitchen window - jumped out of my skin, especially as I have extra security due to an abusive ex partner! He obviously couldn't find the address he was looking but why the hell he thought he'd find the address in my back garden God only knows, you have to walk past my front door to get into my garden anyway Confused

Again; you don’t get to decide it’s ok, if the actual resident has a different opinion. Ffs!
FelicityBeedle · 04/04/2021 19:59

Also everyone saying it’ll be delivered to the addressee not the orderer. Not difficult to show your phone or confirm the numbers are the same

@toocold54

I don’t think takeaways in the park were a thing here before lockdown; but I guess as people can’t eat together inside, they’ve found a way to do it outside...

I’ve never heard of takeaways getting delivered to a park either!
Surely you could take a packed lunch or get a sandwich from a shop - or just wait to eat when you get home Confused

I've eaten a takeaway in a park, while in the Wimbledon queue. In our case we had collected it, but plenty of others had theirs delivered to the park gates. Many local restaurants and takeaways are happy to deliver to the park the queue is in, and some actively come and hand out menus to people in the queue.
WhereYouLeftIt · 04/04/2021 20:01

I'd have eaten it. Whilst standing at my front window.

FelicityBeedle · 04/04/2021 20:01

@GreyhoundG1rl If done properly the resident has no idea? Their house number isn’t some sacred code to be used only by them, it’s just a way of indicating area

rainbowthoughts · 04/04/2021 20:03

This wouldn't t bother me in the slightest tbh.

If I had a house and driveway and someone was lurking on it, I'd be worried.

Hopefully the delivery companies will stop this.

AbsolutelyPansy · 04/04/2021 20:06

unbelievable,
quite funny the cheek of it though

AbsolutelyPansy · 04/04/2021 20:07

perhaps her phone just pinpointed where she was at the time of ordering.

Kettledodger · 04/04/2021 20:08

I'm amazed that so few of you have heard of this was doing it 25 years ago with pizza hut/local chippy when at the park.

Kettledodger · 04/04/2021 20:09

Called up for delivery and used address next to park

LabbyNoona · 04/04/2021 20:09

@GreyhoundG1rl

You’re shocked that people get takeaways? Really? 😂. Takeaways delivered to somebody else’s address is hardly something to 😂 about, unless you’re a self absorbed tit who sees no reason not to use everything they fancy regardless of who it actually belongs to.
That poster was shocked about the takeaway trend generally. Which I do find a funny comment! The person ordering to the OP’s address was indeed a self absorbed tit if they couldn’t be bothered to be outside waiting, yes. But if they were, no harm done. I wouldn’t care if someone used my address in that way - it wouldn’t be my name on the order.
JustLyra · 04/04/2021 20:10

Delivery companies are not going to make it harder for people to spend money. Especially not this year.

The vast majority of the time the householder doesn’t even know do it causes the delivery driver and company no hassle, especially for a paid up front order.

Butwasitherdriveway · 04/04/2021 20:11

OMG this is so not a big deal.

It's annoying that she wasn't there, but if she was, who cares.

Kettledodger · 04/04/2021 20:11

Have to say she should have intercepted BEFORE they knocked on your door so she was CF for not doing that

Blackcat21 · 04/04/2021 20:13

You’ve clearly got time in your day to waste then Hmm
TristantheTyrannosaurus · 04/04/2021 20:15

I'd honestly have eaten it because until now I've never heard of people doing this. Would have thought, Oh, well, bonus takeaway.

MaLarkinn · 04/04/2021 20:17

@AcornAutumn the drivers of course..... could've been anyone in that house Wink

Twizbe · 04/04/2021 20:17

I totally would have eaten it too ... that'll learn her

Artesia · 04/04/2021 20:18

@Alienchannell21

I don't live near a park but if a randomer used my address to order food then lurked about my front door to take it I'd be raging. Also If they didn't collect it then you may be a risk of being 'blacklisted' from future deliveries.
Why? Not being funny, but if they are there to meet the driver outside, and they pay properly etc, what is there to be “raging” about?
GeorgiaGirl52 · 04/04/2021 20:19

@DrSbaitso

It was paid for and she wasn't around or contactable? You should have taken it and eaten it!
This^
AnotherKrampus · 04/04/2021 20:20

As it is prepaid, I would have just taken it and then not answered the door! Simples...
