Cheeky tourist used my address for their takeaway!!

I live near a park, so we get a lot of tourists in the area.

Today, some girl visiting the park ordered herself an uber eats delivery to specifically my exact address so I had a driver knocking on my door. I thought he must be in the wrong place so asked to look at the address so I could direct him, as that sometimes happens, but it was my full address on there! It's quite an obscure address as well as it has a different postcode to the rest of the street and the house has a name instead of a number, which we don't display so you would need to look it up to get the whole thing. There was even a description in the delivery instructions.

She wasn't close by to receive the delivery either and the poor driver was really confused and awkward and was trying to call her and she didnt pick up her phone, and he was stuck waiting there for quite a while going are you sure it's not yours, you dont know anyone called name that could have sent it, it's been paid for so I have to deliver it, the person who ordered it needs to be at the address it's ordered to. I felt so bad for him.

AIBU to think that is blo*dy rude?! I might not have minded if she had asked first or had been around to receive it but to me I just think its really inconsiderate. When she finally turned up I asked her if she didnt think it was a bit inappropriate and rude and told her not to ever do it again and she just acted like I had been super offensive and sarcastically told me to have a nice day.

Some tourists can be so lovely and others are just so self absorbed.

@DrSbaitso

Oh don’t be so condescending.

Then don't be so absolutely disingenuous as to pretend that you think the issue is about paying for the food. What sort of response do you expect?

You were pretending, right?

it wasn’t me who said that? Hmm
DrSbaitso · 05/04/2021 12:21

it wasn’t me who said that?

OK, sorry. But the point still stands. Attempt to make a point by pretending to be thick, that's the response you need to expect.

@EdgedInBlue - I would be absolutely fine with that if my house. Flowers

Why? She’s in the car, and can quite easily go and buy a sandwich. No need whatsoever to be involving someone else’s address in her transaction. In fact whilst at the supermarket buying a sandwich, stay there in the car park and avoid parking up outside someone’s house, probably with the engine running, radio on and speaking on a phone!

That's fine for you, but don't assume that means it actually is an ok thing to do.
The "Well, I wouldn't mind" crew usually use it as an excuse to behave this way themselves. You not minding doesn't compel everyone else to feel likewise; it's utterly irrelevant.

You really are reaching aren’t you? You have no idea of someone’s individual circumstances and whether they can/can’t do something. If that poster is ordering in the way she describes, she’s not doing anyone any harm. I’m sure some do it in a twatty self entitled way (like the person in the OP) but not everyone.

Gottalovesummer · 05/04/2021 13:32

This is such a weird thread.

I had NO idea people did this sort of thing. We live near a big park area so maybe it's been happening to us and we had no idea?

If so, no harm done is it?

Wherearemymarbles · 05/04/2021 13:33

If its one off..... but sounds like if you live next to a park you potentially have an army of drivers turning up each day.

And as the days get longer it will be later into the evening. This would completely piss me off!

Blueeyedgirl21 · 05/04/2021 13:59

@pinktonic Oh so now it’s not ok to sit in your car eating a sandwich whilst on the phone ?! Why?!! Why do you genuinely give a flying fuck if someone is sat outside your house in a car?? You don’t own the pavement or road outside your house. If you genuinely can’t cope with people near your house you need to be thinking about living rurally and getting a security guard or something

BasiliskStare · 05/04/2021 14:15

OK here is how I think @EdgedInBlue is being OK

So she said she needs to be in car for her job. Nowhere did she say she kept the engine running , radio on etc, that's a different issue There may not be shops nearby . If allowed to park I would not be terribly worried if someone used my house no. as a way to get something delivered if they had given their car number plate - so e.g. I am Edged my car registration plate is B451LISK and I am parked outside no. 10 Basilisk St. How is that inconveniencing me. she made it clear it was not my house, & it could be the evening & after a long day's work might actually need to eat.
@EdgedinBlue @LabbyNoona

I agree this is entirely different to just using your house as a delivery address. My house is v small - pretty much on the pavement and people just hanging around waiting for a delivery would make the dogs bark - MN dog alert - it would be irritating in my circumstances. What @EdgedinBlue is doing - would not care a jot

GreenSlide · 05/04/2021 14:34

You can all use my address for this if you want. I recommend the beef in chilli and garlic sauce from my local Chinese, with fried rice. And a can of Coke. Promise not to eat it!

IrmaFayLear · 05/04/2021 14:42

I think it would be worrying if the house occupant were elderly - in fact it might be concerning for anyone if a delivery driver knocked/rang late at night and you hadn’t ordered anything.

I agree with a pp that takeaways should have a £10 littering surcharge. Ordering McDonald’s in a park is rather.... mucky .

Heyyy did this inspire you to create your own thread? Grin just popped up on my active. Do love a good Chinese takeaway.
BasiliskStare · 05/04/2021 14:49

@IrmaFayLear - I agree with you but I think @EdgedinBlue is doing something different - Hope DC all well Flowers

Why is it mucky, @IrmaFayLear ?
Blueeyedgirl21 · 05/04/2021 14:53

Mucky 😂😂

Do some people hear themselves

Blueeyedgirl21 · 05/04/2021 14:54

I feel like a lot of posters on this thread are basically this woman

GreenSlide · 05/04/2021 14:56

@LabbyNoona it did. I'm having serious chinese cravings now Grin

IrmaFayLear · 05/04/2021 15:04

I’d like to live in the past where people weren’t proud to behave like slobs. The most distressing thing I think I’ve ever seen on tv was the KFC advert with someone licking their greasy fingers. Absolutely gross and should be consigned to the dark web...

I do hate full on finger licking in public Grin though I’m not sure how it’s related to getting a takeaway in a park!
Blueeyedgirl21 · 05/04/2021 15:36

HOW is getting a takeaway slobby?!!!!

Blueeyedgirl21 · 05/04/2021 15:37

@IrmaFayLear I think you’re being hyperbolic and it’s pretty funny to be fair but I’m pretty sure there’s been more distressing content on tv than that ?! Or are you consigned to cbeebies only !!

IrmaFayLear · 05/04/2021 15:42

No, I have never seen anything more emetic on television.

Blueeyedgirl21 · 05/04/2021 15:48

Do you not watch the news??!
