Cheeky tourist used my address for their takeaway!!

I live near a park, so we get a lot of tourists in the area.

Today, some girl visiting the park ordered herself an uber eats delivery to specifically my exact address so I had a driver knocking on my door. I thought he must be in the wrong place so asked to look at the address so I could direct him, as that sometimes happens, but it was my full address on there! It's quite an obscure address as well as it has a different postcode to the rest of the street and the house has a name instead of a number, which we don't display so you would need to look it up to get the whole thing. There was even a description in the delivery instructions.

She wasn't close by to receive the delivery either and the poor driver was really confused and awkward and was trying to call her and she didnt pick up her phone, and he was stuck waiting there for quite a while going are you sure it's not yours, you dont know anyone called name that could have sent it, it's been paid for so I have to deliver it, the person who ordered it needs to be at the address it's ordered to. I felt so bad for him.

AIBU to think that is blo*dy rude?! I might not have minded if she had asked first or had been around to receive it but to me I just think its really inconsiderate. When she finally turned up I asked her if she didnt think it was a bit inappropriate and rude and told her not to ever do it again and she just acted like I had been super offensive and sarcastically told me to have a nice day.

Some tourists can be so lovely and others are just so self absorbed.

@LabbyNoona

I’ve put a random address right next to a park on a deliveroo order before, only way of getting something delivered to the park Smile But then I watch like a hawk and jump up and collect as soon as I see the driver! Would be mortified if they rang the bell Grin
Do you pay in advance? Surely if its already paid for, the driver can't just give it to a random person. Anyone could see a delivery driver and say "oh that's for me" and steal someone else's food.
Graciebobcat · 04/04/2021 19:21

What's wrong with people? Get picnic food from M&S on the way. Just be a bit more organised.

WalkinginMemphis2 · 04/04/2021 19:21

In hindsight you should have taken it and eaten it!! That would’ve blinking taught her wouldn’t it.

AndromedaGal · 04/04/2021 19:23

That’s not ok. It’s rude & presumptuous. You don’t use someone else’s address to get your takeaway delivered & then show up late to collect it. Never mind the arrogance of not even apologising for the inconvenience caused to both the resident & the delivery driver.

ilikebungalows · 04/04/2021 19:23

I can't believe the bare faced cheek of people who do this, or the posters who think it's OK. I'd have left it on the pavement. Bon appetit.

lap90 · 04/04/2021 19:23

I imagine it's pretty common and have heard about people doing similar... for example, a certain restaurant does not deliver to their home address so they enter some random address closer to them where deliveries are made to collect.

It's odd that she wasn't there to intercept the delivery though as of course she would have known where the courier is.

It's not something I'd personally get worked up over, although can imagine it's annoying if it happens all the time.

WellLarDeDar · 04/04/2021 19:24

True I shouldn't get worked up, I suppose I'm one of those people who fume passionately for a bit and then forget about it. Venting helps :)

Someone here did say she could have written in the delivery instructions that she was a park visitor and not given a description of my house! Good point actually!!

I found it odd that she wasnt around ready to take the order and wouldnt answer her phone, she must have enough sense to know the driver would obviously knock on my door and it'd be a pain for me and the driver. I think the thing that annoyed me the most was her entitled reaction acting as if I was being really offensive. All she seemed to care about was her bruised ego instead of the nuisance she caused for me and the driver. Poor guy was so frustrated, said it was his last run and he just wanted to go home and see his family.

Next time, I'll receive it and put it in the closest bin for safe keeping and they can pick it up at their convenience!

I’m amazed they don’t. They actually hand it over to some random lurking outside? Hmm

LudoBear · 04/04/2021 19:25

Have people become so lazy that they now want food delivered to parks??

I'm sick of deliveroo etc. I went the chip shop on Friday, had to stand and queue for half an hour whilst they dealt with all the deliveroo orders. Everyone is just getting lazier and lazier. If you want food, go and get it.

Butwasitherdriveway · 04/04/2021 19:25

I've got taxis from an address before. Is that ok?

SuperTeds · 04/04/2021 19:26

I live across from a park and have had random food delivery guys turn up a couple of times in the past. Always told them its not our order and they've gone off again but now wondering if this is what has happened. It's annoying if so, the unexpected knock at the door was quite late in the evening one time.

Plumbear2 · 04/04/2021 19:27

@Butwasitherdriveway

Not a specific address no. I would always name the street and say next to asda or whatever. I certainly wouldn't use a random address.
WalkinginMemphis2 · 04/04/2021 19:28

Do check what it is first...before you bin! First option’s surely got to be to eat it.

LabbyNoona · 04/04/2021 19:28

@Exhausted4ever yes they could well do! It’s worked out fine, I’ve always been right next to where the address is, either residential or office which is easier and sometimes put a note in the note section when ordering. I paid for it, it’s my name on the order and my card details, so if they wanted they could always verify Smile

Butwasitherdriveway · 04/04/2021 19:28

But why plum? It's just an address!

Womencanlift · 04/04/2021 19:29

@Butwasitherdriveway

Eh no! What if you didn’t show up for the taxi or loads of people did the same as you and that house ended up getting blacklisted. Not exactly fair on the homeowner

Fair enough if you are actually at the house as a guest but not if you are just randomly passing it. If it’s the latter then say a building or the top of the street not someone’s house

GreyhoundG1rl · 04/04/2021 19:29

@Butwasitherdriveway

Just a random house? Why would you do that?
Moondust001 · 04/04/2021 19:30

You knew she was a tourist by the badge they all wear?.

Plumbear2 · 04/04/2021 19:30

@Butwasitherdriveway

But why plum? It's just an address!
Because you risk getting the resident blacklisted for no shows. Are you really this entitled?
LabbyNoona · 04/04/2021 19:30

@GreyhoundG1rl

Would be mortified if they rang the bell Grin I’m amazed they don’t. They actually hand it over to some random lurking outside? Hmm
Yup, because it’s not someone random if I say “Hi my names X and I ordered from X restaurant, my deliveroo app says you’ve arrived”... they list the driver’s name too
toocold54 · 04/04/2021 19:31

I found it odd that she wasnt around ready to take the order and wouldnt answer her phone, she must have enough sense to know the driver would obviously knock on my door and it'd be a pain for me and the driver.

I wonder if she’d been drinking with a friend and then thought it was a good idea to get done food and then forgot about it lol.

Sansaplans · 04/04/2021 19:31

@Butwasitherdriveway

No Confused. Saying x street or by y address sure, but not booking as if you live there.
GreyhoundG1rl · 04/04/2021 19:32

@Butwasitherdriveway

But why plum? It's just an address!
It’s not your address Confused. What are you having difficulty with here? It’s a perfectly simple concept for most people.
Imissmoominmama · 04/04/2021 19:32

@MaLarkinn- I couldn’t either!

We’re in strange times- I hope she eventually got her food.

BigPaperBag · 04/04/2021 19:33

I’d have said ‘thanks’ and kept it 😆
