I've gone to M & S and Sainsbury's this afternoon, and there are no Easter eggs left . Literally none at all. Why??

Oddly the local Waitrose had dozens of Caramel ones.... but noting else!

anyoldtime · 02/04/2021 00:34

My local Tesco has loads left. For the first time ever, I was very prepared this year and bought them about a month ago. They have since been taking up quite a bit of space in my cupboard though.
Try the small shops. They will have them albeit more expensive.

Ijustknowitstimetogo · 02/04/2021 00:38

Sold out in Asda too. And earlier this week online at hotel chocolate.

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 02/04/2021 00:43

In some countries, they fill colourful paper/cardboard eggs with all kinds of sweets and gifts. Maybe you can find some like that for next day delivery on amazon and fill them with your children's favourite sweets.

No, but I have had Moser Roth's milk chocolate bars. They come 4 (I think) in a pack. They are seriously one of the better milk chocolates out there and I include hotel chocolat. and the like in that, so I'm sure your mini eggs will be delightful.

@carrotsx5

I actually don't remember having this issue in the past! Or maybe I was more organised in previous years I don't think to though... Might have to try Waitrose...
But the last two easters haven't been like the past? I honestly don't get why you're surprised.

Mister Roth is sold in Aldi and is very good.
MercyBooth · 02/04/2021 01:34

Sounds like im in for a treat on Easter Sunday.

BarbaraofSeville · 02/04/2021 02:40

I don't have DC to buy for but used to pick up half price eggs for me and DC after Easter but haven't done this for a while because they now all seem to sell out in advance.

I've read that people are buying extra this year, to cheer themselves and DC up after a year of this shit.

Also Easter seems to have gone commercial and I know the PP who talked about Easter Bunny on the shelf for lent was taking the piss, but I wouldn't be surprised if that's what happens over the next few years.

I also expect the supermarkets to be busier than usual over the next few days. People can't go out for meals on Sunday so might be buying extra food in the supermarkets. DP went to Asda last night and said it was rammed and ravaged so there was a lot of stuff sold out. It will probably be worse today and tomorrow, so I'm grateful we don't need anything else over the next few days and there's always the co-op if we do.

Incidentally, we went to M&S early evening on the Saturday before Mother's Day and had to queue to get in, which seemed strange (we always shop at quiet times and haven't had to queue since the first lockdown) and they had completely sold out of all flowers. There was a massive area of empty buckets except for a few packets of pussy willow twigs at a fiver each.

BarbaraofSeville · 02/04/2021 02:40

DC = DP.

ceilingsand · 02/04/2021 03:07

Tons to be had where I live. It must be a very localised problem.

Soubriquet · 02/04/2021 03:13

I’m about to go to work and will see how our egg situation is...

There was loads on weds. Will be interesting to see how it is today.

Still glad I got mine though

BlackCatShadow · 02/04/2021 03:27

I think it's better to buy essential purchases early. So, i buy some Easter eggs and hide them in a cupboard and then buy some extras for snacking on and pick up any bargains, if they're to be had. I do this with all holidays, so I also buy advent calendars early. I actually bought our proper Easter eggs over a month ago.

BlackCatShadow · 02/04/2021 03:38

By the way, I'm not really that organised by nature, but we've been caught out so many times, so i do make the effort and it lessens my anxiety to feel prepared.

Soubriquet · 02/04/2021 03:49

We have eggs!

So if you need an egg, a certain orange store in spalding has eggs

jessstan2 · 02/04/2021 04:02

Have a look at smaller shops and newsagents, there are bound to be some Easter eggs somewhere.

I ordered mine online with shopping a fortnight or so ago.

BikeRunSki · 02/04/2021 04:03

I’ve had this in the past, most memorably 4 years ago when we had a work emergency in the week before Easter and I scoured SouthYorkshire at 7pm on God Friday to find any eggs at all.

I’ve also been known to carve melons and butternut squashes, when I’ve been unable to find any pumpkins on 30 Oct, and make a Halloween sweet bucket out of a flower pot for similar reasons.

Similar experiences with Advent calendars.

After 12 years of being a parent I finally learnt, and bought Easter eggs when I first saw them in the shops about 6 weeks ago. Having said that, our little Tesco Express still had some yesterday.

I thought the same yesterday - but got some in WHSmith - not a massive selection or anything, but good enough!

BlackberrySky · 02/04/2021 05:49

No problem with stock round here if you fancy a trip to SW London. Loads in all the supermarkets, some reduced already.

silverstrawberry · 02/04/2021 06:19

This happened to us last year it sucked ! Especially with 5 kids they just had small hollow colourful eggs so I'm well stocked your just gonna have to start in February next year because I swear people getting ready in January
Happy Easter tho 🐣

Roselilly36 · 02/04/2021 06:27

I have been really unorganised this year, and not brought one egg yet, so we are hoping to buy some this morning, I was laughing when I read this thread, and said to DH we will be popular if we can’t get any. My DS’s are 19 & 18. So both adults. I said you a too old for Easter eggs,
I wasn’t going to bother this year, they said never too old for chocolate.

SpiderinaWingMirror · 02/04/2021 06:27

Lol. I've bought one for everyone except me.
No doubt dh was planning his last minute flit to the shop where there will be none!
