I've gone to M & S and Sainsbury's this afternoon, and there are no Easter eggs left . Literally none at all. Why??

@ErinAoife

l bought my Easter chocolates weeks in advance, plenty for the Easter egg hunt on Sunday, yesterday I bought Jelly beans to add to the Easter chocolate. I have hidden 2 full shopping bags but to my horror when I went to put the jelly in it, 90 % have disappeared, I am only left with 3 medium Easter eggs and half a bag of small eggs. Turn out my middle child aged 14 has eaten them, he did not care about the Easter hunt, did not care that his little sister (6 years) will be disappointed.
I would be absolutely furious! That is so selfish!

www.hotelchocolat.com/uk/shop/easter-eggs/you-crack-me-up.html

I was eyeing up this for myself (adore Hotel Chocolat!) absolutely certain I could treat myself to it half price after Easter because I was convinced barely anybody would pay £30 for a single Easter egg. I was wrong, Cadbury chocolate clearly too pleb-like for some people’s little darlings Grin

Loads on the shelves of our local convenience store Tesco today- I could see them from the car! We’re in south London so if anything I’d expect them to run lower here. Hope you find some!

Lulu1919 · 02/04/2021 19:27

Local Waitrose had nothing this morning ...actually they had a few creme eggs

Yllas18 · 02/04/2021 19:28

They’ve been on sale since Christmas. If you’ve left it till 2 days before Easter then you’ve only got yourself to blame. Is it really that hard to put a £1 Easter egg in your weekly shop. And just so you all know advent starts on the 1st of December and advent calendars go on sale in September, so get prepared people

HappySwordMaker · 02/04/2021 19:29

A bit off topic but I’m assuming from this thread that supermarkets and other shops are allowed to trade on Good Friday in the UK? It’s illegal here, apart from newsagents, petrol stations & McDonalds etc. Same as Easter Sunday. So we all scramble and buy our eggs ahead of time, and all our other groceries because of the horror of the shops being closed for a couple days Grin

ChalkingsIsAGatewayCrime · 02/04/2021 19:30

I think you mean "non left".

Graciebobcat · 02/04/2021 19:30

I never leave it this late, they always run out on Easter weekend locally. I got mine on Tuesday evening when there were loads.

Worried234 · 02/04/2021 19:30

They're all stuck in the Suez Canal!!! Grin

Alwaysandforeverhere · 02/04/2021 19:32

Schools definitely have. My younger twos primary every child got given an egg and my older secondary school aged child came home with an egg too must be a big drive by schools.

Sparklingbrook · 02/04/2021 19:35

They're all stuck in the Suez Canal!!!

That was all sorted earlier in the week I think.

sugarlost · 02/04/2021 19:36

What happens if you buy chocolate bars/selection box instead and not an Easter Egg?

Perfectly legal for shops to open in UK on Bank Holidays. Just not allowed on Easter Day and Christmas Day (except for very small stores).
Worried234 · 02/04/2021 19:38

Kids won't care what form the chocolate comes in, it's chocolate! Just buy bars or treats instead.

Yapplepearora · 02/04/2021 19:38

I don’t think supermarkets are buying less. I reckon people are probably trying to make it up to DC for the shitshow of a year it’s been and the fact that loads probably missed out on anything last Easter.

Sparklingbrook · 02/04/2021 19:39

Scotland can open stores on Easter Sunday from what i can gather, and don't have restrictions on trading hours on Bank Holidays.

DynamoKev · 02/04/2021 19:43

Supermarkets are definitely trying to make us buy stuff earlier. They are like the miserable sods who take their tree down on Boxing day.

No Easter eggs in Tesco local, large and massive Asda or Co-Op today. If they keep doing this they can stick their eggs up their arses. I am not buying them in fucking Jan or Feb.

CaveMum · 02/04/2021 19:49

Our Aldi were totally out of Easter Eggs this morning (multipacks of cream eggs only), but Sainsburys had a decent amount left.

I got ours 2 weeks ago, plus a cheeky order from Hotel Chocolat as rather conveniently 2 of their character Easter themed treats have the same name as my kids so it looks personalised Grin I have more than once had to tell people I did not name my children after HC chocolates Grin Grin

It’s the same every year - all gone about a week before Easter. I got caught out one year so always buy them as soon as they come into the shops. Corner shops usually still have some.
ThatsNotTheTeaHunty · 02/04/2021 19:53

There's loads here. I was actually surprised.
Sainsbury's were brining more crate fulls out last night.

ThatsNotTheTeaHunty · 02/04/2021 19:53

I’m intrigued is South London known for an excessively high consumption of chocolate eggs?
Eyevorbig0ne · 02/04/2021 19:55

The opposite to last Easter.
The **only thing left on the shelves were Easter eggs.
Chicken no. Pasta no. Beans no. Bread no. Flour no. Yeast no. Grim.

YippieKayakOtherBuckets · 02/04/2021 19:58

All my local tesco had left last week was masses of kitkat eggs.

How funny - our Co-Op had masses of KitKat Chunky eggs this morning but nothing else. I wonder why.
