I've gone to M & S and Sainsbury's this afternoon, and there are no Easter eggs left . Literally none at all. Why??

OP posts:

Try Lidl, DP has just come back with loads! Not sure if they have big ones, that's not what he went for, but we wanted eggs for an Easter egg hunt and there were lots.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 02/04/2021 18:42

I have some eggs... I’m wanting to eat some choccy now...

TiddleTaddleTat · 02/04/2021 18:42

Try the little Tesco's or other supermarkets . There were loads stacked on the top shelves when I went to my local one yesterday

DontDrinkDontSmokeWhatDoIDo · 02/04/2021 18:43

@ErinAoife

l bought my Easter chocolates weeks in advance, plenty for the Easter egg hunt on Sunday, yesterday I bought Jelly beans to add to the Easter chocolate. I have hidden 2 full shopping bags but to my horror when I went to put the jelly in it, 90 % have disappeared, I am only left with 3 medium Easter eggs and half a bag of small eggs. Turn out my middle child aged 14 has eaten them, he did not care about the Easter hunt, did not care that his little sister (6 years) will be disappointed.

Oh my goodness - what a little sod 😡

I bet you're livid with him.

Fluffmum · 02/04/2021 18:46

There’s loads in Waitrose

GnomeDePlume · 02/04/2021 18:50

Pretty much sold out in Asda here (Midlands). Thankfully DH works there so Easter eggs bought weeks ago - currently lined up on a shelf looking like the worst Easter egg hunt in the world!

I love the 'seasonal' aisle - Halloween chases summer up the aisle, then Christmas chases Halloween, then Valentines chases Christmas, Mothers Day chases Valentines, Easter Chases Mothers Day, gardening chases Easter, summer chases gardening then we are back round to Halloween again. It is like a slow running race.

Oh and I swear all the unsold Lindt Easter bunnies simply get sent back to the factory to be refoiled as Christmas deer!

Doje · 02/04/2021 18:53

I read an article recently that sales have increased something like 250% vs last year. People have all gone a bit generous because they can't see family properly yet. Obviously no one could forcast that kind of lift when they planned this season, so stocks may well be running tight.

However, I was in my local Lidl yesterday and they had lots, and I also had a notification from Amazon pop up that mentioned Easter eggs, so maybe try them.

Usernamerequired · 02/04/2021 18:54

A lot of local schools, community centres, hospitals and police have given out loads of eggs here. I think many have been bought early in bulk to give to the likes of hospital staff, care homes and children under lock down.

Vargas · 02/04/2021 18:54

Wow, some really smug unkind people on this thread. Hope you find some OP. This happened to DH a few years ago when he wanted to buy one for his DM and the only place he could find one (had to be dark chocolate as she's v fussy about chocolate) was at the petrol station.

Yapplepearora · 02/04/2021 18:58

Gutted. I always love to treat myself to a posh outrageous Easter egg but have missed out this year, none left

ShellieEllie · 02/04/2021 18:59

M&S sold out here and Lidl only had a few dark chocolate ones. Also no leg of lamb in either so my hunt will continue tomorrow :(

Tianatiers · 02/04/2021 19:01

Hope your sorted now OP. My local village shop has loads, I know that's not helpful to you but perhaps find your nearest village shop or corner shop instead of the big supermarkets. Good luck!

Goshthatsmyneighbour · 02/04/2021 19:02

I know that supermarkets may learn from previous years, but last year there was SO many surplus eggs in the supermarkets - a real overflow. So it's not difficult to see how some many people may be shocked that there is so few this year...I have also left it late, but due to sad personal circumstances where it just wasn't a priority in my head. Wouldn't be tempted to eat them if I bought the early myself, as I don't have a sweet tooth, but you can bet your life that my kids would find them one way or another and eat them!!!

Hawkins001 · 02/04/2021 19:03

To be fair to the companies most have had Easter eggs available from at least February, so it would have helped when possible to plan ahead to achieve success.

00100001 · 02/04/2021 19:03

Yybto @Goshthatsmyneighbour

Our Lidl was giving them away last year, they had two massive cages full of them at the exit, and just said 'help yourself'

TerryHearn · 02/04/2021 19:04

Boris reckons you need a Covid passport to buy an Easter egg anyway.

00100001 · 02/04/2021 19:05

Likely.

I saw in more than one occasion people filling multiple large trollies with Easter Eggs! One group had 3 trollies packed.

Yapplepearora · 02/04/2021 19:09

@TomHardyAndMe.

Half of the school mums I have on Facebook are doing this. Opening online shops called “Sharon’s Sweet Treats” etc. One of them is filling half an Easter egg with Nutella, topping it with a crushed up Kinder Beuno and home delivering them for £8 Confused

They seem to get a few supportive sympathy buys from family but I have no desire to buy them. I’ll buy my ‘treats’ from a registered place that has to adhere to food hygiene rules thanks.

RedGoldAndGreene · 02/04/2021 19:11

There's been lots in the food bank trolleys at my local Morrison's for weeks . They had a 3 for 2 offer so I reckon that people with 2 kids might have donated the third (?)

Mugginyouleftrightandcentre · 02/04/2021 19:13

I totally thought this when I went to Tesco yesterday, couldn't believe it!

Only the crap ones left and a lot of them had, as Alan Partridge would say, superficial damage to the box Grin

Still haven't got my kids ones so not sure what I'm going to do, might have to head to my local Tesco Express!

Mugginyouleftrightandcentre · 02/04/2021 19:15

Urgh, yeah, those 'Easter Egg cheesecake' things, made in some random person's warm kitchen and then delivered to me for only 20 quid - no thanks!

Jangle33 · 02/04/2021 19:17

This is not a Covid thing. Remembering this happening several years ago as well. Though I suspect they’ve also under ordered after poor sales last year with eggs on the shelves for weeks.

Yapplepearora · 02/04/2021 19:17

@Mugginyouleftrightandcentre.

I always have visions of the person letting their young DC help make them to keep them occupied and shudder. Can live with eating something my DC have done, but other people’s? Ugh.

Polkagirls · 02/04/2021 19:17

Could not find any either - so just bought posh chocolate - champagne truffles and green and black variety selection- was well received Smile- no complaints about them not being egg shaped

Usernamerequired · 02/04/2021 19:20

@00100001 there are so many kind people out there thinking of people who are CV/CEV, hospitalised and not to forget relying on those relying on foodbanks
