I've gone to M & S and Sainsbury's this afternoon, and there are no Easter eggs left . Literally none at all. Why??

OP posts:

Ju at back from Morrison's and the Easter Eggs had been replaced by barbecue stuff

Based on next week's forecast, I'm surprised it wasn't snow shovels.

TomHardyAndMe · 02/04/2021 17:55

@TomHardyAndMe

Cheesecake eggs 🤮
£5-6 each around here!
WingBingo · 02/04/2021 17:56

@Flowers24

Sorry no sympathy for anyone as you have had ages....
Just would have run out sooner in that case.
Jeeperscreepers69 · 02/04/2021 17:57

easter eggs have been onsale for a month. Why would you leave it till easter weekend? B and m will have them in. Not as posh as old m and s but its choccie

Maireas · 02/04/2021 17:59

@Annebronte

Waitrose had loads!
Our Waitrose had shelves full as well. Plenty in the M&S foodhall.
Hey2492 · 02/04/2021 18:00

Sometimes trying the small stores is good - shops like corner shops etc. Probably pay more for them but likely to have some left!

But yes I agree the supermarkets are empty. Most years they have so much left over after Easter and they reduce it all. My local Sainsburys haven’t had much Easter stock left for a couple weeks!

ErinAoife · 02/04/2021 18:06

l bought my Easter chocolates weeks in advance, plenty for the Easter egg hunt on Sunday, yesterday I bought Jelly beans to add to the Easter chocolate. I have hidden 2 full shopping bags but to my horror when I went to put the jelly in it, 90 % have disappeared, I am only left with 3 medium Easter eggs and half a bag of small eggs. Turn out my middle child aged 14 has eaten them, he did not care about the Easter hunt, did not care that his little sister (6 years) will be disappointed.

winniestone37 · 02/04/2021 18:06

Look every year the Easter eggs sell out a few days before Easter- you can occasionally get lucky but in my experience buy them early. 🤷‍♀️

Alsohuman · 02/04/2021 18:07

She’ll live.

RosesAndHellebores · 02/04/2021 18:08

There were shelves full in my Sainsbury’s but not much choice: Cadbury’s flake, Cadbury’s Caramel, Bournville dark orange and smaller Cream Egg ones and Maltese ones. The big ones were reduced from £6 to £4. I bought a flake one for the family. All grown up but nice nonetheless.

Lucyk1 · 02/04/2021 18:16

Easter eggs have been out since January. Why leave it until 2 days before Easter to buy them?

Diva66 · 02/04/2021 18:16

I got some from Hotel Chocolat

UntamedWisteria · 02/04/2021 18:19

My local Sainsbury's had a reasonable choice this morning.

mrbreezeet1 · 02/04/2021 18:21

They are sold out.

Jontomsam · 02/04/2021 18:27

Not being funny but they’ve been on sale since just after Christmas where I live. 🤷🏼‍♀️ You snooze you lose 🙄

Marmite27 · 02/04/2021 18:29

@PassionPeach

We've had them on the shelves in our shop for 10 weeks now. The last week of January is when they were put on the shelf, but they were delivered to our warehouse on the Jan 2nd. The amount of people screaming at myself and other members of staff because they left it last minute to buy a chocolate shaped egg is unbelievable. If you're disappointed about it, please don't give shop workers shit for it. Just admit defeat and buy yourself a nice chocolate bar instead - highly recommend Tony's Chocolonely if you can get some!
Tony’s Chocoloney tastes like cheap 80’s chocolate but costs a bomb. I really wouldn’t recommend it.

I prefer Lindt Excellence or Aldi’s Moser Roth.

Bananabuddy3 · 02/04/2021 18:29

My Sainsbury’s had about 100 Cadbury ones today with the Peter Rabbit toy - nothing else though! But not the most horrific one to buy if no other choice

Glad I bought mine a couple of weeks back - wish I had stocked up on mini eggs though I love those and they won’t be back till next year Blush

nannybeach · 02/04/2021 18:29

Yup, bought all I needed 6 weeks ago, and cheaper too

toffeebutterpopcorn · 02/04/2021 18:29

In Waitrose today - they had a few at the display by the door but the back wall where they had loads last time I was on had been stripped and replaces with loo rolls (it looked funny because the display still said ‘Easter’).

Last year there were loads left over - I remember because a chap working on there was telling me that he is Greek Orthodox and Easter was later so he was buying loads of cheap eggs.

actiongirl1978 · 02/04/2021 18:32

I worked in woolworths in the mid 90s and my absolutely favourite shifts were those on Good Friday and Easter Saturday.

We used to spend 8hr shifts selling and packing eggs into giant woollies bags - one person processed the payments and the other stuffed the sacks.

It was like Christmas week but better weather. We used to have so much fun. People absolutely used to buy their eggs on Easter weekend Grin

Ddot · 02/04/2021 18:37

If you can find an actual easter egg, good for you. Most are chocolate eggs and easter is not mentioned at all. Oh and yes it does matter, easter is one of the most religious days of the Christian calendar.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 02/04/2021 18:39

Green and blacks do say Easter egg. I haven’t managed to find any of those ‘good news’ ones that I tend to buy from habit - it has a little booklet telling the Easter story. I’m sure if I was desperate and looked online of find them somewhere.

bigmumsymcgraw · 02/04/2021 18:40

Plan ahead!

toffeebutterpopcorn · 02/04/2021 18:41

Ah that’s why I haven’t seen them - They weren’t selling in the shops this year: meaningfulchocolate.co.uk/collections/real-easter-egg

Alwaysandforeverhere · 02/04/2021 18:41

Wilko reduced all theirs 2/3 days ago to a basically buy one get one free. Today they had one egg left. B&m looked bare the other day. Haven’t been in Tesco for a while but that was running low last week. Aldi sold out of 99p ones only a couple of pallets of the £1.99 ones which isn’t a lot for aldi.
