I've gone to M & S and Sainsbury's this afternoon, and there are no Easter eggs left . Literally none at all. Why??

@EarringsandLipstick

Yes, in Ireland abc last weekend most Easter eggs were gone. Supermarket that I shopped in had none, even tho huge stock 2 days before. It was like they just vanished!

Did find another supermarket with a small selection so kids were able to get one.

Even tho I remember the same happened last year, was still caught out.

Im in Ireland also earring.

I worked in Dunnes about 10 years ago and remember we were always sold out by Good Friday every year. Only the petrol stations would have some left after that date.

But people did seem to buy earlier in general this year. All my local tesco had left last week was masses of kitkat eggs. The week before that only a few different types left.

I had to pop into aldi last night and surprisingly they had a new pallet of malteser eggs there (the nicest eggs IMO) so was delighted to pick up a few.

It's not the shops fault that these people are stupid. That's their fault.

Sorry but this makes me cross. The blatant commercialism sone people have bought into is incredible. How can people ge stupid for not buying Easter eggs before it’s even spring?
It’s just poxy chocolate - it’s the symbolism ie it’s Easter that’s the important bit ( not from a religious point of view just that it’s the holiday currently being celebrated).
How have we got to the point where a holiday becomes reliant on you buying something crap like chocolate out of season ie in winter for a celebration about Spring.

Rukaya · 02/04/2021 10:29

nd there are no Easter eggs left . Literally none at all. Why?

Because everyone knows you can't leave it to the last minute.

Really? Who buys Easter Eggs weeks in advance? Just for them to sit there until Easter Sunday...

Pretty much everyone does!

sixtyfiveoranges · 02/04/2021 10:29

I got one on Amazon prime yesterday for delivery today - there were quite a few available. YOu can get a free trial of Prime if you don't have it already.

hey! The Easter Bunny is an important event for my kids!

ElderMillennial · 02/04/2021 10:31

I recall this often happens. I started buying the eggs I wanted to give about a month ago so that I would have them in case they sold out.

Obviously pretty much everyone doesn’t or we wouldn’t all have been caught out this year.
Oileoloe · 02/04/2021 10:33

All shops near me have plenty!

HaveringWavering · 02/04/2021 10:34

There were very few on the shelves at my local Sainsbury’s yesterday but they had a huge block of them just inside the entrance- are you sure you didn’t miss them in another part of the shop?

ElderMillennial · 02/04/2021 10:34

I expect the majority of people did buy their eggs early.

It's not like you have to buy them in January. The shops near us still had a selection about a week ago.

PassionPeach · 02/04/2021 10:35

We've had them on the shelves in our shop for 10 weeks now. The last week of January is when they were put on the shelf, but they were delivered to our warehouse on the Jan 2nd. The amount of people screaming at myself and other members of staff because they left it last minute to buy a chocolate shaped egg is unbelievable. If you're disappointed about it, please don't give shop workers shit for it. Just admit defeat and buy yourself a nice chocolate bar instead - highly recommend Tony's Chocolonely if you can get some!

Goldenbear · 02/04/2021 10:35

Does it depend where you live as I was talking to the small Tesco manager at our local one and she said they have cages of them in the back!

MrsMaizel · 02/04/2021 10:35

Local coop had masses yesterday afternoon .

caringcarer · 02/04/2021 10:38

Lots of small cream eggs around if you can't get larger egg. My adult sons both adore those cream eggs.

MintyMabel · 02/04/2021 10:39

My daughter does that every year! Is it because she lives in Scotland????

I used to do this but the past 3 or 4 years ago there were generally none left. Most do them on a 3 for 2 now so it is just as cheap as it was buying them after Easter.

RoseZinfandel · 02/04/2021 10:48

I understand shops want to run out just before Easter and can't risk over-ordering.

But I do object to this sort of arms race of selling seasonal products earlier and earlier.
If you don't buy them earlier and earlier you miss out.

I don't want to have to store chocolate eggs in the cupboard for months.
I don't want to put my Christmas tree up on the 1st December.

I buy my tree at the beginning of December now and leave it in the garden for a couple of weeks.

And I bought Easter eggs two weeks ago and had to clear a space in the wardrobe to hide them.

I would not want to be tripping over them since New Year - do the people who buy eggs then just have enormous houses?

LillethCrane · 02/04/2021 10:48

I added them to my online shopping weeks ago. Last night’s delivery came- no Easter eggs available Hmm now there are none left in our local Tesco. Brilliant...!

Yes, Easter Eggs are so big I built an extra wing. Hmm

In reality, I have 10 medium eggs in two places and they take up almost no space at all.

MorganKitten · 02/04/2021 10:52

All of the shops near me have loads.

Poppiesway1 · 02/04/2021 10:54

Had to laugh at Miguel Barclay post on Instagram this morning .. where he said mumsnet are wrong and showed lots of eggs in his Sainsbury’s.. but my local ASDA and TESCO had been stripped of eggs. None left by weds evening! Completely bare shelves bar boxes of milk tray.. which are just ergh, so no wonder they’re left there

Flowers24 · 02/04/2021 10:55

Same here shelves are empty, thats why I got all mine 2 weeks ago,

catcatcatcat · 02/04/2021 10:57

I'm pretty invested in this to be honest & need an update to see if the OP found some this morning.

CoffeeRunner · 02/04/2021 10:58

You know adding things to a basket in advance doesn't reserve stock don't you?

It's the same as people who add a turkey to their online basket in October & are outraged when there's none left for their Christmas Eve delivery.

Iamthewombat · 02/04/2021 10:58

Yes, Easter Eggs are so big I built an extra wing.

HAHAHAHA

Flowers24 · 02/04/2021 10:59

Not being funny, but i dont understand why people leave it so late, you have had weeks ?
