Easter eggs - none left

I've gone to M & S and Sainsbury's this afternoon, and there are no Easter eggs left . Literally none at all. Why??

OP posts:
TrustTheGeneGenie · 02/04/2021 09:37

I got ours on Monday. Asda only had small 99p eggs (fine, got a couple of them!) But nothing bigger. Went to Aldi who had a few bigger ones left.

Went back to Aldi yesterday for my weekly shop and they didn't have a single egg left.

There is something about Easter egg chocolate that's better than normal chocolate!

Cattenberg · 02/04/2021 09:37

My local Tesco was hopeless yesterday. About seven eggs left, so hardly any choice. Sainsbury’s was much better.

I don’t understand why Hershey’s chocolate is widely available this year. It’s worse than Cadbury’s.

Sleepdeprivedmama1 · 02/04/2021 09:37

I missed the creme egg boat this year. Usually stock up to last a few months (like 1 a week stock up!) But alas, all gone!

I figure it due to the supermarkets being cautious about buying seasonal stock and having to reduce to clear come Monday. Remember how long Easter stock was on the shelf for last year (creme eggs were available well into the summer at my local!)

popspops · 02/04/2021 09:41

Because it's Easter on Sunday and people rushed out to buy eggs when out meeting friends earlier in the week?

Loads here though, I stopped to get petrol and the place was full of them.

Sleepdeprivedmama1 · 02/04/2021 09:42

@jerometheturnipking

Our Tesco had pallets full of Chocolate Orange eggs left yesterday. I bought ours last week when there were still decent ones in the shop because we've been caught out before, luckily when the kids were young enough to not care that they got a tiny egg and an Aldi reindeer
Right I'm reporting this "Still decent ones"...Orange chocolate is the best type of chocolate!!! So offended 😆😆😆

disclaimer : not really reporting, it was a lighthearted comment

CallmeHendricks · 02/04/2021 09:44

Get yourself down to my local Sainsbury's then. I went yesterday and it was HEAVING with Easter eggs. Great big feature display by the door, plus a whole aisle, some more feature displays at aisle ends AND, I noticed as I was leaving, whole great pallets wrapped in plastic stored in the currently disused cafe area.
They had every type known to man, from tiny little milky buttons ones to huge posh ones with curly writing on.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 02/04/2021 09:46

I HATE feeling forced to buy seasonal stuff early. I do buy early for Easter, having been stuck with Double Decker eggs one year, after assuming that the Wednesday before Easter would be plenty of time.

Got caught out at Christmas this year though. Tree went up on the 13th December, and our fairy lights had stopped working. Couldn't get a new set anywhere locally as apparently Christmas decoration are a November thing Hmm.

Hailtomyteeth · 02/04/2021 09:47

Sainsburys and Tesco had loads on Wednesday. But no-one had an Easter card. Not one.

EarringsandLipstick · 02/04/2021 09:51

Yes, in Ireland abc last weekend most Easter eggs were gone. Supermarket that I shopped in had none, even tho huge stock 2 days before. It was like they just vanished!

Did find another supermarket with a small selection so kids were able to get one.

Even tho I remember the same happened last year, was still caught out.

FourWordsImMuNiTy · 02/04/2021 09:51

I always leave it to the last minute but I have twenty supermarkets/newsagents which sell them within walking distance so I’ll be surprised and pissed off if they’re all sold out and I have to actually get in the car. On the upside walking round all twenty will probably burn off the calories from a quarter of one egg.

TwittleBee · 02/04/2021 09:52

Sainsbury’s was loaded this morning! Reckon they must have restocked last night 🙌

thebillyotea · 02/04/2021 09:52

I HATE feeling forced to buy seasonal stuff early.

I am with you, but it makes life so much easier, you get caught in it.
I try to avoid being too early and pushing the shops to start Christmas in August and Easter in January, but leaving things until the last month simply does not work.

EarringsandLipstick · 02/04/2021 09:54

But I don't eat a Christmas tree or a Christmas present on the 4th of December if I buy it too early!

Brilliant! 😂 (and soooo true)

Whammyyammy · 02/04/2021 09:57

Was in Sainsburys yesterday morning, saw a couple buy 2 trolleys worth of Easter eggs. Thought they might be stocking a shop or selling on marketplace in the hope of a shortage.....

WellJuhnelle · 02/04/2021 09:58

@Soubriquet I think that depends on your supermarket. There were none left in our big Tesco when I went on Wednesday but I nipped in again first thing this morning and I heard a member of staff telling somebody they had a surprise delivery of more eggs last night. They were all in pallets by the front door because they had already condensed the Easter aisle down - so for anybody who hasn’t managed to get any it is definitely worth trying today

I also hate it. Our lesson learning moment was me having to lead DP out of some clothes shop late one August when he wanted to buy shorts and vests for our forthcoming September holiday to the Med and him being puzzled and annoyed because all he could see was coats and jumpers with no shorts and vests to be seen.
FearlessSwiftie · 02/04/2021 10:03

Most people buy things in advance just to make sure they'll have them. Easter eggs is nothing special imo

Benjispruce2 · 02/04/2021 10:05

Oh @BarbaraofSeville I hate that. It happens in July though. I’m in education and so I start looking at holiday clothes and summer stuff in general, when the schools break up. But shops have done with that and want us all to move on to autumn. Try buying a dressing gown in May. Apparently they only get worn in winterHmm

Bluntpencil · 02/04/2021 10:05

It wasn’t like this in previous years, I remember buying bargain Easter eggs after Easter before.

RevolutionRadio · 02/04/2021 10:06

@whammyyammy most years we buy a trolley of Easter eggs, they're donated to a hospice. haven't been able to do that this year though.

We bought ones for ourselves weeks ago so we got ones we really wanted.

Chasingsquirrels · 02/04/2021 10:10

They always sell out, they didn't use to when I was young in the 70's and 80's and you could buy them cheap afterwards.

And I always buy them in advance when they are on offer. This year for various reasons, mostly do with having much more of a store cupboard and not shopping as often, I haven't.

I had them on an Tesco order I was collecting Saturday afternoon.

Thanks to this thread last night I changed it to 7-8am this morning and have been and picked it all up. They didn't have the Malteser one I'd have got ds1 as in stock online, so I chose him a different one. All 4 I ordered were there.

Baconking · 02/04/2021 10:12

If you're not fast you're last Grin
I bought mine a couple of weeks agoWink

DH ALWAYS thinks there will be loads going cheap next week...he's living in the past...

CuddlyDudley · 02/04/2021 10:12

Dp works in a big supermarket and worked boxing day, he showed me photos of all the palllets of easter eggs 😂. I bought da5 his egg last week and one for dp, have a suspicion i won't have one as dp always buys last minute

BakewellGin1 · 02/04/2021 10:16

I've been to Spar, Co-op and Asda yesterday and they all had a lot still in... Possibly Tesco Express too?

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 02/04/2021 10:17

Went to Lidl yesterday and plenty of stuff left. Lots of white choc lambs and milk choc chicks etc.
