Easter eggs - none left

I've gone to M & S and Sainsbury's this afternoon, and there are no Easter eggs left . Literally none at all. Why??

I thought it’d be a bad year for them when Hotel Chocolat sold out online weeks ago. There was a post on our local Spotted page that Tesco had some yesterday and it went crazy. Sainsburys were replacing the Easter aisles with BBQ stuff on Monday when I did my usual shop, the eggs were all gone, but there did seem to be a lot of hot cross buns.

RevolvingPivot · 02/04/2021 08:37

What do people expect? If you want Easter eggs for your kids you make sure you get them before they sell out. It happens ever year.

DH went to get the kids one from him. (Not sure why ). I told him there wouldn't be any but he said I was being daft. He went to Asda and Aldi. Non left.

whenwillthemadnessend · 02/04/2021 08:38

Only ones I saw yesterday contained fruit and nut

Luckily I got my own kids ages ago but had to get my nephews a big bar of choc instead.

I keep returning to this thread and being amused all over again that so many people on MN seem so angry that other people didn't buy eggs early enough... The people who don't have eggs are, by contrast, pretty chilled about it!

Sparklingbrook · 02/04/2021 08:44

Nobody’s angry just a bit bemused I think!

thebillyotea · 02/04/2021 08:45

@ShadierThanaPalmTree

I've seen loads of women on my local facebook group asking to swap old shoes, a bookcase, dvds etc for Easter Eggs, and I thought to myself are they really in that short supply this year or is everyone just badly organised? You have to buy them weeks in advance these days!
😂😂😂

what a money making scheme!

Stock on Easter eggs early, and swap them for old shoes near Easter. Fabulous.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 02/04/2021 08:45

In M&S yesterday they had plenty of boxes of ‘egg hunt’ eggs, but not much else.

Don't know who is angry about it. I think it's kind of funny. The same posters who are now complaining that they can't get them are probably the same people who complain about them being sold at Christmas time. The shops have really made it easier than decades ago to do your shopping now, to keep in mind with budgets and all that, so if you have a limited budget you can buy earlier (which is actually better and smarter as they are cheaper then too).

It's not the shops fault that these people are stupid. That's their fault.

KateMidd · 02/04/2021 08:48

Yeah, there is no reason to complain, however, you know human neture - we wait till the very end rather than think beforehand.

shouldistop · 02/04/2021 08:49

Oh no! I've still to buy my niece and nephews!

IpanemaNova · 02/04/2021 08:50

We’ve left it late this year (moving) so going to have some sad kids as dh couldn’t find any last night. I don’t know why people have to be so smug on here though.

Hallyup5 · 02/04/2021 08:51

Went in Morrison's yesterday and there was an entire aisle full of them.

FreekStar · 02/04/2021 08:54

There wasn't even a packet of mini eggs left at Ocado this week! Glad I ordered my dd's about 6 weeks ago- was lucky enough to have foresight this year!

fairydustandpixies · 02/04/2021 09:02

B&M had loads left yesterday afternoon.

jerometheturnipking · 02/04/2021 09:06

Our Tesco had pallets full of Chocolate Orange eggs left yesterday. I bought ours last week when there were still decent ones in the shop because we've been caught out before, luckily when the kids were young enough to not care that they got a tiny egg and an Aldi reindeer

AmperoBlue · 02/04/2021 09:08

Or wait until actual Easter to buy things for Easter.

Still I’ll make sure I’m ready for Halloween by August because the shops are full of Christmas stuff by October.

Benjispruce2 · 02/04/2021 09:09

This has happened to me in the past so now i always buy them a couple of weeks early. Try Aldi. They had some yesterday.

Soubriquet · 02/04/2021 09:14

@Umbivalent

There'll be more in today.
I work in a supermarket and that’s a big fat no

What’s in is in

IndiaMay · 02/04/2021 09:21

The Aldi near me still has loads!

borntobequiet · 02/04/2021 09:26

Because it’s nearly Easter?

Arbadacarba · 02/04/2021 09:32

Lidl had loads of chocolate bunnies if they'd do instead of eggs.

WombatChocolate · 02/04/2021 09:32

This happened last year too. I went to Sainsbury’s and they had THREE left....all of them costing £20 or more. Sod that!

Best time to buy (no good now, I appreciate that) is about 4-6 weeks before when Tesco do medium sized ones for 75p. They are a decent sized egg with fillimgs. Think they are now £2.

Try the smaller co-Ops and corner shops at this stage. They won’t be 75p but you should get something.

It is now Good Friday though, so they don’t want them hanging around....any left overs will be in sale for 20p on Monday.

RedPandaMama · 02/04/2021 09:35

I went to ASDA on my lunch hour yesterday and they had none. At all.
Went to Tesco late night when it was less busy and they only had After Eight and Lion Bar ones left! Absolutely crazy. I've never bought Easter eggs in advance, usually buy them on the Saturday to take to the kids on Sunday. Very glad I didn't leave it til then.

Went to Lidl and they had some lovely Deluxe ones left Smile

iluvpickles · 02/04/2021 09:35

Everywhere seems to have hardly anything left. I found this at Halloween last yr think maybe folk going over the top coz of lockdown so there's a lot more demand.

I started getting stuff in last Sunday, went to home bargains and Morrison's. I usually buy gifts too so need Easter bags, sweets, cards, little Easter themed things and couldn't get them.

I then went to Asda and all they had was eggs nothing else. I went to the range, another home bargains and Aldi to get everything. I still couldn't find gift bags anywhere.

TeachesOfPeaches · 02/04/2021 09:36

They've been selling Easter stuff since Boxing Day round here
