Easter eggs - none left

I've gone to M & S and Sainsbury's this afternoon, and there are no Easter eggs left . Literally none at all. Why??

I made some one year . Use a balloon as a mould . Melt some chocolate and paste on the balloon so you get a half egg shape . When the chocolate has fully set burst the balloon. Fill the chocolate shell with sweets .BUT don’t have the chocolate too hot or the balloon bursts and you have a chocolate explosion!

BarbaraofSeville · 02/04/2021 07:58

@Mablefly

Our large Asda was sold out yesterday so we picked up other chocolate instead.

And for everyone saying 'be more organised', for many it was payday yesterday so it's a matter of cash flow. I picked up some earlier in the month but needed to wait until payday to grab the last few.

I think if you're that short of money that you need to wait until payday to buy Easter eggs, you might want to think about cutting down the number you buy.

I don't know when it morphed from just getting your own children a single small egg to DC getting piles of eggs and buying them for everyone in sight, but when you can get eggs for under a pound, it's not something that needs to cost very much at all.

ClarkeGriffin · 02/04/2021 07:58

@Sparklingbrook

They have been selling Easter Eggs for months/weeks, it's Good Friday tomorrow with reduced trading hours, and the supermarkets are shut on Sunday so it's a bit like expecting to get a Christmas tree on Christmas Eve...
Yeah people like this do surprise me. Being that unorganised then complaining about it, when we have so much advertising and technology to remind you. Unless you've been in a coma and just woke up today, it's pretty much your own fault.
herecomesthsun · 02/04/2021 08:00

We bought well in advance as we have been shielding and relying on supermarket orders.

However, I am just emerging out of hibernation Grin and I noticed that Tesco's and Marks still have eggs yesterday, where we are.

Tigresswoods · 02/04/2021 08:02

I fell for this when DS was 2. You can't expect to get eggs after lunchtime on Maundy Thursday. That's just ridiculous!

sistersnottwins · 02/04/2021 08:03

Well the little boy who was getting an egg from me is stuffed because I ate it last week. Luckily he'll be getting loads I'm sure. 😄

Mylovelyhorsee · 02/04/2021 08:05

Loads in my Sainsbury’s.

Have you tried Aldi?

uggmum · 02/04/2021 08:06

What area of the country are you in. My area is literally full of eggs.

Last night Sainsbury’s had an aisle full of eggs. My local One Stop has loads as does Tesco and Asda.

I am in Yorkshire

HugeAckmansWife · 02/04/2021 08:06

I do have small kids, not sure why that stops you going to the supermarket (and I'm a single parent so can't just leave them at home) Eggs are literally everywhere and have been for months. If you need dozens for nieces etc, the £1 smartie eggs from Lidl etc are fine surely? But as with a pp, why is this actually necessary? I actively discourage my relatives from buying them. They get 2/3 from me, their dad. That's enough. And yes tothe point that if you need to wait til payday for a second run at buying them, I'd say additional eggs are unaffordable.

KateMidd · 02/04/2021 08:10

Easter eggs have been on sale in Tesco and Waitrose since Christmas Eve. None left for the moment Sad

ShiningGonnaShine · 02/04/2021 08:12

I used to buy my eggs just before the Easter weekend (if not slightly after, reduced). Same for advent calendars. But I've definitely noticed a shift over the last few years - they are without doubt engineering us to buy earlier. I bought all of mine a few weeks ago - they were super cheap then too. Conversely, last year (I know last year was a weird one) , in my local Lidl they were giving away the left over Easter choc for free (literally) afterwards because they were so over stocked. I'm guessing they're trying to avoid this happening.

I was pissed off yesterday because I went to both Home Bargains and Tesco to try and get some Easter tat (bunny ears etc) to beef up our easter fun but neither shop had any of this stuff left, let alone eggs. I felt sad for past me - I would have been so stressed to go to the shops at a perfectly reasonable time pre-Easter (ie the Thursday before) to find the shelves bare. It's not really fair.

Againstmachine · 02/04/2021 08:13

Plenty in Yorkshire.

If they haven't got them buy a bar of chocolate instead.

Sparklingbrook · 02/04/2021 08:13

Yes, which is why it's strange to complain that if you can't get any on Good Friday. Grin That's 3 months to get all your Easter Egg requirements sorted-surely that's enough?
LemmysAceCard · 02/04/2021 08:15

We bought ours a couple of weeks ago, DP was complaining that it was too early, still 2 weeks to Easter. He shut his gob when we went shopping last night and there was hardly any left. The shelves were filled with Celebration tubs instead.

Dressinggownchic · 02/04/2021 08:16

I buy them when on offer a few weeks before Easter. Popped into Tesco yesterday and they had lots left but twice the offer price of two weeks ago and mostly ones with mugs etc.
M&S were completely sold out.

Justri · 02/04/2021 08:16

I work at a supermarket. We had them on shelves since Boxing day....

Cowbells · 02/04/2021 08:17

Like I said before - there are loads and loads on Amazon. If you don't have Prime - sign up for a free trial of it and cancel it after you get your eggs delivered free within 24 hours. Better than trailing all around the local area finding none or ones your DC won't much like. Problem solved.

Sparklingbrook · 02/04/2021 08:17

I presume once the shelves are empty of Easter Eggs it will make way for picnic and barbecue type stuff in the Seasonal aisles-onto the next phase of the year.

Umbivalent · 02/04/2021 08:21

There'll be more in today.

dementedpixie · 02/04/2021 08:23

I doubt it

Radyward · 02/04/2021 08:25

This hapoens every single year. When me and my now DH were dating , i drove 3 hrs to see him on Good Frday stopping at every random garage / big shop and NOTHING

butterpuffed · 02/04/2021 08:26

They had loads in Asda a few days ago but were completely out of Easter cards. I don't normally send any but thought I would as I can't see family this Easter. Card shops are shut.

I reckon others had the same idea but got there first, it hadn't occurred to me there wouldn't be aNY left Sad

Cam2020 · 02/04/2021 08:29

Everything moves on so quickly now! The easter eggs were out at the same time as Valentines cards! Ridiculous! It also seems to be the norm to buy your children about 10 Easter eggs each these days, according to sone MN posts, where one used to suffice! All crazy.

Cam2020 · 02/04/2021 08:32

Actually, other posters are right - they've been out since juat after Chrsitmas.

Sh05 · 02/04/2021 08:33

Just been to Asda and it's full of Easter eggs and other Easter related treats. And our local Lidl is pretty stocked up as well
