AIBU?
To have told DH that he embarrasses me?

I have windows open all the time as I need fresh air. We live in a very quiet area, detached house on shared private drive attached to a quiet street so we don’t even get traffic noise. We have a walking path down the side of our house popular with dog walkers etc
DH can’t seem to keep from shouting constantly. You can hear everything from outside and I’m so embarrassed by it.
Examples from this weekend alone:
From bedroom to downstairs “Moonie, Chuck us a bog roll up!” (Bedroom windows wide open)
Kitchen to living room “Racist!” (Kitchen window wide open)
Living room to kitchen “this house smells like a cross between wet dog and BO!” (Patio doors wide open)
Downstairs toilet to kitchen “Moonie have you had diarrhoea?! It stinks in here!” (Window wide open, neighbours behind us sat in garden).
I have asked him to stop shouting all the time and he has said I’m being unreasonable to be embarrassed by him and acting like a snob pretending to be something I’m not. I’m not normally bothered by what people think of me but I think this makes us look rough as hell! No kids at home now, just me and DH
Am I over thinking it?
Am I being unreasonable?

YANBU at all. I hate when DH talks unnecessarily loudly and the kitchen window is open. It's not anyone's business what we are talking about...I hate it and always make a point of slamming the window shut when he does it. Now the neighbours probably think I have anger issues 😂😂

What's the matter with the man? I'd find him so annoying I'd be shouting back (which doesn't help anybody). And why do the shouted comments always seem to be toilet-related? Is he obsessed with body functions? Best keep the windows shut until you've got him sorted out. Embarrassing.

He doesn't need to be shouting this stuff all the time. My neighbour has a bathroom in their bungalow roof opposite and every morning I can hear him honking up his nasal excretions for half an hour with the window wide open. It makes me sick to my stomach.

I can see how the last one would be annoying - nobody wants to have someone else broadcasting their toilet habits - but I can't really see the problem with the others. Was he calling one of your neighbours a racist?
He seems quite oblivious and you seem a little over-invested in knowing where you neighbours are and expecting them to be listening to you. Perhaps there's a middle ground?
RosesAndHellebores · 28/03/2021 13:17
The nature of the comments wouldn't particularly bother me but the shouting through the house does. MIL does it; I no longer respond. Eventually she appears and repeats and says didn't you hear me and I say yes, but I'm not having a conversation from three rooms away, if you want to speak to me or want something come where I am and have a conversation. Ex school teacher so I think it's ingrained.

No he was calling me a racist for saying I had to do something about my pale skin 🙄 he was joking obviously but to anyone listening there would have been no context

From bedroom to downstairs
Kitchen to living room
Living room to kitchen
Downstairs toilet to kitchen
If he hadn't shouted would you still have heard him? Perhaps you need an intercom or he could keep him phone with him and call you or perhaps Alexa in all rooms. 'Alexa can you tell Mooni we need a bog roll upstairs'.
