Sharing bath water

WiganNorthWest · 23/03/2021 20:37

I remember we all used to use the same bath water one after another (parents too) when I was a kid but the thought of doing that now makes me cringe. Does anyone go in the same bath water after another family member?

When I indulge in a bath I go all out, bath oils, a few kilos of himilayan salt, candles and music... when I'm done DH always has a soak after me because it's frankly cost about a tenner and smells divine

Are you my long lost twin? Grin

My DP always gets in after me (similar reason to the above) and we also share a bath every once in a romantic while. While we're WFH it's not like anyone's particularly filthy is it?!

candlemasbells · 23/03/2021 21:48

Still share bath water. I put the children in first, then I use it and DP has it last. I don’t understand why in the past the man had the first bath because he would be the muckiest. DP doesn’t like to waste water

sadpapercourtesan · 23/03/2021 21:49

Christ, no Shock

It's one of those things I feel really gleeful about being an adult and not having to put up with - along with being allowed to have a drink with a meal, or flushing the toilet in the night.

I didn't think anyone still did this. It grossed me out in the 80s when I had no choice. The idea of doing it now is mind-boggling. Sitting in a macrobiotic soup of other people's filth.

Because they were in charge 🙄😁
msby · 23/03/2021 21:49

Rather than the usual targeted bath themed adverts along the side of the page, I just had one on the TV! Grin
The Mum was bemoaning the lack of hot water after all the family had a bath before her! (Nationwide I think) If only they had shared water...

SchrodingersImmigrant · 23/03/2021 21:50

Yeah as kids.
Now j pay for my water I don't want swcinds nor does my dh. But we each have a bath really rarely nowadays.

PattyPan · 23/03/2021 21:50

Funnily enough my DP was telling me this morning that sharing a bath water as a child has put him off baths even now, I was telling him to soak in Epsom salts to help stiff muscles. I used to share a bath with my sister when I was little too and don’t feel the same way although not sure I would want to get in after DP because after he showers there is always lots of fluff (like lint, not hair) in the drain and I don’t think I’d want to be surrounded by that!

namechangetheworld · 23/03/2021 21:52

I can't stand baths but DH will always top up the bathwater from the children's (shared) bath for himself. I'm sure the youngest's wee is usually floating around in there with him but he doesn't seem that concerned about it.

quarentini · 23/03/2021 21:52

As a child we had to bathe together or share bath water.
As an adult I don't and won't do either

WiganNorthWest · 23/03/2021 21:53

@Fembot123 a fairly regular occurrence when I was young. We had a little plastic net to fish it out!

Me and the kids share bath water (they’re still babies), DH and I have on occasion but I hated it and it was only when we really needed to

AgnesNaismith · 23/03/2021 21:55

Lucky you @RedcurrantPuff, I almost bought a share in ovex in 2019

BobBobBobbin · 23/03/2021 21:56

Me and my DCs (4 and 6) often share a bath together, it’s become a bit of a lockdown ritual. Very occasionally I jump in their bath (they share) after they’ve got out of an evening.

We share bath towels too, shocker!

Natsku · 23/03/2021 21:57

DD and DS take turns with the toddler bath (DD is 10 but will still squeeze herself in it) when we're in the sauna but they both shower first so its pretty clean water.

ChristinaYang10 · 23/03/2021 21:58

Sitting in a macrobiotic soup of other people's filth.

I don’t do it because I don’t like baths, but how filthy do you think people are?? After a normal day, (no playing with DD in the mud, just sitting at a desk wfh) I’m not really that dirty.

BabyBee93 · 23/03/2021 21:58

I draw the line at sharing towels! Something about those personal crevices that I'm not so relaxed about wiping my face with Grin

Crazycakelady17 · 23/03/2021 22:00

When I was younger yes all three of us together when we were small but as we got older I got to go first as I was the eldest 👍
In our family no, Dh sometimes gets in with me but always showers after I’m not too fussed. With the kids no they all have fresh baths

Why are you allowing yourself to be filthy before washing 😂
WithIcePlease · 23/03/2021 22:00

Share here too - with DH/DD's

Stellaris22 · 23/03/2021 22:00

Yep. I have a bath first as I like it hot, then DH gets in after me. We rarely have baths and it seems like a waste of water otherwise.

Planty13 · 23/03/2021 22:02

DH gets in after me most nights. I can’t get in after him as he moults 🤮 the kids share.

Backtoschool101 · 23/03/2021 22:03

My two boys share aged 6 and 7. The 2 girls share 2 and 3. They boys used to share with their sister to play (3 years old) but she splashes too much. Me and dh shower.

hellomom · 23/03/2021 22:03

I've never in my life used anyone's bath water. Even when I was younger, my mum would unplug and fill with new water for the next person. I can understand 2 young siblings having a bath together, or couples having a bath together, but if one has it and comes out then the other person goes in, I find that quite eww. I get the whole not wasting water, but I wouldn't

millerpie · 23/03/2021 22:06

It grossed me out as a child and it’s definitely no different now.
