Sharing bath water

I remember we all used to use the same bath water one after another (parents too) when I was a kid but the thought of doing that now makes me cringe. Does anyone go in the same bath water after another family member?

No, I'm funny with baths. I don't even like sitting in my own bath water so I always have a shower. It's weird as I'm not hysterically clean in other ways. Hate the over-use of bleach and the constant dettol spraying for example.

PolarnOPirate · 23/03/2021 21:32

I've been jumping in after the kids lately, it is a bit gross but I ignore that
because it's such a waste to drain the bath so I can have a shower.

Oileoloe · 23/03/2021 21:32

Yep. Massive old cast iron bath on legs, no shower and not the best water pressure.
I don’t fancy spending most the evening running baths, it holds the heat fine and does the job.
It’s clean, not sterile.

2ndtimemum2 · 23/03/2021 21:34

@Sprig1

Yes, my husband gets in after me in the evening. My son (10) will sometimes come in with me.
10 months or years??
Pepperminttea16 · 23/03/2021 21:35

So surprised by the number of people saying they do this! When I was a child I maybe shared bath water with a sibling but that stopped before any of us reached puberty. I would never get in the same bath water as my partner and I wouldn’t expect him to use mine either. I can’t imagine you would feel clean sitting among someone else soap scum? Hmm

DinosaurDiana · 23/03/2021 21:36

My Dd used to shower and I’d put the plug in and catch the water for me to have a quick swill at night.

doadeer · 23/03/2021 21:36

I do after my toddler and just heat it up a bit. He has it very deep as no pools open haha

RedcurrantPuff · 23/03/2021 21:38

YANBU, it’s gross

Fembot123 · 23/03/2021 21:38

@AgnesNaismith

No. So gross.

Same here as a pp with separate towels and I clean the bath to within and inch of its ceramic coated life after each person.

to avoid the threadworms

😂😂😂 We always used to share bath water when my DC were small and gel ever once had worms!
LaceyBetty · 23/03/2021 21:39

I won't judge, but it's a huge no from me and I'm surprised that so many do. Never have I shared bath water with anyone. Well, maybe my sister when we were very little. I actually rarely have a bath, almost always showers. And we all have our own bath towels, washed once a week.

It’s not really clean with someone else’s skin, sweat and random hairs in it
Justmoveonin · 23/03/2021 21:40

I never knew people did this. No, I wouldn’t. We don’t all have a bath every night, just showers the rest of the time

Fembot123 · 23/03/2021 21:40

My DS gets in after me but my DDs only ever have showers, even if a kids had pissed in bath water it would have zero affect on you. Isn’t 10 a bit old to be sharing a bath with a parent?

8bitgame · 23/03/2021 21:40

DH will jump in after me. Or DS.

I always go first though Smile

LaceyBetty · 23/03/2021 21:42

It would have a massive effect on my ability to feel relaxed and clean afterwards!

SylviaPlath1984 · 23/03/2021 21:44

When I indulge in a bath I go all out, bath oils, a few kilos of himilayan salt, candles and music... when I'm done DH always has a soak after me because it's frankly cost about a tenner and smells divine 😂 I shower and wash my hair before I get in a bath like that so I'd like to think it's clean enough for DH after me..... oddly, I'd never ever get in a bath after someone else though 😂

msby · 23/03/2021 21:44

We haven’t bothered running a full bath in ages but DH used to happily add more hot water and hop in after me (but never the other way around!). We didn’t have a bath when our DC were small but they occasionally shared during holidays etc.

Growing up I had to share with my sister. My brother then got in after us.

Sorry to hear that, I wouldn’t even give it a second thought but appreciate everyone worries about different things.
StCharlotte · 23/03/2021 21:45

Yep. Normally DH has the first bath, then me. I'm not covered in pustules so it would appear to be fine.

OhDear2200 · 23/03/2021 21:45

I will often jump in after or before my DS.

DurhamDurham · 23/03/2021 21:46

Happy to share with DH, sometimes I go in first, sometimes he goes after me

Isn't that the same way around? Confused

Libraryghost · 23/03/2021 21:46

DH gets in after me sometimes- his choice. I would never get in after him though. I don’t think men are as fussy as women and in the case of my husband too lazy to run a bath...

Fembot123 · 23/03/2021 21:46

When my DC were small one of them shat in a bath they were sharing now that’s grim 😂

candlemasbells · 23/03/2021 21:46

We shared bath water growing up. Youngest first. We were not actually dirty. When we were older we moved house and the bathroom was outside, renovations were done and within 2 years it was inside, and the water could only be heated by a gas geyser in the kitchen and carried out in buckets. You couldn’t bath at night because there were no lights in the bathroom outside. So you had to share bath water as it was such an effort filling the bath. We only filled it twice a week.
There was a large pot sink in the kitchen I used to fill that up and get in a few times a week. My brother favoured he outdoor shower, someone stood on a chair with a couple of watering cans of nice warm water.
