Sharing bath water

WiganNorthWest · 23/03/2021 20:37

I remember we all used to use the same bath water one after another (parents too) when I was a kid but the thought of doing that now makes me cringe. Does anyone go in the same bath water after another family member?

When we were kids not only did we share baths we used to imagine we ran a cafe, fills cups up with the water and drink it 😂

Lullaby88 · 23/03/2021 22:13

Never knew this was a thing. Personally think its unhygenic tbh. When u bathe u shed the dirt of ur body (adults) kids dont really shed but yes they could pee. Only shower really anyway. Baths are more for a relaxed break and then id shower straight after i have a bath gives a full clean.

Viviennemary · 23/03/2021 22:15

I didn't even realise it was a thing people did. It's the dirtiest most unhygenic practice ever.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 23/03/2021 22:15

No, not shared but conscious of not squandering water, so save it for cooking potatoes and pasta etc. Actually rice cooked in bath water that has had jasmine scented bath oil in it is particularly pleasant.

Top tip; skim any scum that may accumulate on the surface of the bath water before storing it in your cooking bucket. Wink

That is a shocking waste of water 😨

No. 🤮

You can’t have a wild imagination if you think this is the MOST dirty and unhygienic practice EVER 😂 What about people who shit on each other for example.
MiddlesexGirl · 23/03/2021 22:22

I used to allow my DH to use my old bath water. Never the other way around though 😂

I’m not sure I’d want to eat food cooked in water that had had my husband’s nether regions in it. Or my own for that matter.
stayathomer · 23/03/2021 22:29

Can people not save water by washing less and having showers? There's some things personally I think should never be done!!!

seensome · 23/03/2021 22:29

I thought people only shared bath water in the olden days in a tin bath before anyone had bathrooms. No I wouldn't but can understand if you have a baby and toddler to bath together quickly.

An excellent point well made.😂

Teardrop2021 · 23/03/2021 22:38

Yep we always jump in after each other why not if its warm, kids will sometimes go in after aswell.

Lullaby88 · 23/03/2021 22:39

Might seem like it if I did it every week. But how often do i have that relaxed break lol probably once every couple of months. Hence I just shower and exfoliate in the shower. I agree though regularly that would be a lot of water.

@candlemasbells

Still share bath water. I put the children in first, then I use it and DP has it last. I don’t understand why in the past the man had the first bath because he would be the muckiest. DP doesn’t like to waste water
DP could fuck right off if he thought I was getting in a tub of water that had previously cleaned my grotty children. Grin

@BabyBee93

When I indulge in a bath I go all out, bath oils, a few kilos of himilayan salt, candles and music... when I'm done DH always has a soak after me because it's frankly cost about a tenner and smells divine

Are you my long lost twin? Grin

My DP always gets in after me (similar reason to the above) and we also share a bath every once in a romantic while. While we're WFH it's not like anyone's particularly filthy is it?!

Yay bath twins! 😂😂

Is this rice and pasta that accompanies the MN chicken that lasts an entire week?
NativityDreaming · 23/03/2021 22:53

Nope, I couldn’t do it, too grim.

My sons, 7 & 9, bathe together and I don’t even like that.

I mostly shower in any case and we all have our own, dedicated towels.

middleager · 23/03/2021 22:59

This was my family, I never thought anything of it as a child!

My Dad also used to put fairy liquid in the bath. Again, I assumed this was normal...

amusedbush · 23/03/2021 23:00

I hate, hate, hate baths with a passion. Our last flat didn't have a shower so I had to have baths and rinse my hair with a plastic jug for seven grim years. We moved into our first owned home 13 months ago and I'm so grateful that we have a shower. It was bad enough sitting in my own grubby soup, never mind reusing someone else's water!

DH, however, loves a bath. He buys himself fancy bubble baths, salts and scented candles. He's a big "blokey" guy but he does enjoy a pamper Grin

sst1234 · 23/03/2021 23:02

Hang on, why do you bathe? So that grime i.e sweat, dead skin, excess oils etc is washed off your body. See, ‘off’ being the operative word. To sit in that grime and then have someone else sit the same grime is not bathing. What’s wrong with you people?

sst1234 · 23/03/2021 23:07

This thread proves that some people still think it’s the Victorian times. Then again, if dry wiping is still a thing, then sharing bath water is no biggie to some people.

Gobbeldegook · 23/03/2021 23:10

Ewww 🤮

RagzReturnsRebooted · 23/03/2021 23:10

Yes we still do this, though I usually refresh a fair bit of it for the 3rd person. Tank isn't big enough to do everyone. They have the option of a shower whenever they want though, it's not enforced but if I run the DCs a bath they usually share the water and then I tend to jump in after and rinse off hair with the shower hose.

I didn't grow up with running water though, so my standards and tolerance for water waste are both low!
