Would you want a job like this? (Part time, term time)

I'm tentatively thinking about taking on an employee but I keep going back and forth between thinking someone out there would love it or that no one would.

Job details:

3 hours per day, Mon-Fri, 9:30-12:30
£20 per hour (£1,200 per month)
4 weeks paid holiday per year but can take all of school holidays off unpaid if desired
Mostly admin but would need to pass background checks as would be handling sensitive info
Must be very good with both numbers and people (especially people!)
Potential to progress

I know it's a decent hourly rate but because it's only three hours a day it still only amounts to £1,200 per month, so I'm not sure if many people would want (or could afford) that. I need someone with qualifications too due to the nature of the business. Is it crazy to try to find someone for this? Or should I wait until I can take on a full time employee?

YABU: It's crap
YANBU: There's someone out there for you (maybe)

I’d do it in a heartbeat!

Watto1 · 16/03/2021 19:02

Are you in South Wales? How do I apply?!?

Unisexnames · 16/03/2021 19:02

A lot of the Mothers I know in my area would kill for a job like this!! I think you’ll find someone no probs.

Tswiftscat · 16/03/2021 19:02

Yes, me! Soon to be ex teacher (hopefully!) Grin

HoneysuckIejasmine · 16/03/2021 19:02

I currently do those hours on half the pay very happily. Fits in perfectly with DS's half days at preschool.

IndigoHexagon · 16/03/2021 19:02

The only thing that would make me hesitate, would be that it’s 3x5 hours, but potentially not working school holidays could balance that out. If you throw in working from home I’ll apply!

Marvelwife123 · 16/03/2021 19:03

I would 100% jump at this!!!

VVKills27 · 16/03/2021 19:03

When can I start? Sounds ideal for tons of reasons, you’ll find someone no problem

Custardandnoodle · 16/03/2021 19:03

I think you'd get mum's with younger kids biting your hand off. Also perhaps retired or semi retired folks looking to keep their hand in but winding down to retirement.

yoyo1234 · 16/03/2021 19:03

That's great . I would place your advert.

LostForWords2021 · 16/03/2021 19:03

I’d happily apply for 3 hours a day. Since being made redundant from my full time role as Executive Assistant I’m currently working part time roles which suit my home work life balance.

SmednotaSmoo · 16/03/2021 19:03

Gladly.

Merryoldgoat · 16/03/2021 19:03

I’d go for that! Especially as I’d not have any childcare costs.

Just be careful properly calculating leave and fte etc as it can be a bit fiddly with TTO employees

BurgundyBells · 16/03/2021 19:03

There will definitely be someone interested at £20 an hour.

However, if possible, you'd widen your pool of candidates if there was more flexibility in the hours per week. I'd imagine plenty more people would be interested in working 2 x 7.5 hour days a week rather than 3 hours every day.

Sparklesocks · 16/03/2021 19:05

It sounds great, I think you’d get a decent amount of applicants.

FabulousMeOhYes · 16/03/2021 19:05

I would bite my own arm off for a job like that.

Thelovecats69 · 16/03/2021 19:05

Where do we apply ?? :)

LIamaDelRey · 16/03/2021 19:05

You will find many SAHM applicants biting your hands off for that. It is very similar to my hours and payrate once you have taken unpaid holidays off.
What would help is if you make it a set salary term time only so pro rata-ed - then divide payments by twelve - this means that any applicant on universal credit will have more consistency with their salary and payments.
But yes, am sure you will find somebody and in this climate, very quickly.

Glitteryone · 16/03/2021 19:06

You’ll be inundated with people for that. Amazing!

NailsNeedDoing · 16/03/2021 19:06

You will be inundated with applicants.

LongBlobson · 16/03/2021 19:06

This is exactly the kind of thing that most of my friends with young kids are desperate to find!

£20/hour is good too.

radioband · 16/03/2021 19:06

You’ll get loads of applicants! I’d do that easily. The pay is good for part time work.

ImFree2doasiwant · 16/03/2021 19:07

Yes, I'd love a job like this.

coronabeer · 16/03/2021 19:08

I think loads of people would love a job like that! Parents, people nearing retirement, even people (like me) with a dog who can't be left for too long.

Everyday21 · 16/03/2021 19:08

If you're in Northumberland please pm me! I've got skills and qualifications well suited to what you've described
