Would you want a job like this? (Part time, term time)

I'm tentatively thinking about taking on an employee but I keep going back and forth between thinking someone out there would love it or that no one would.

Job details:

3 hours per day, Mon-Fri, 9:30-12:30
£20 per hour (£1,200 per month)
4 weeks paid holiday per year but can take all of school holidays off unpaid if desired
Mostly admin but would need to pass background checks as would be handling sensitive info
Must be very good with both numbers and people (especially people!)
Potential to progress

I know it's a decent hourly rate but because it's only three hours a day it still only amounts to £1,200 per month, so I'm not sure if many people would want (or could afford) that. I need someone with qualifications too due to the nature of the business. Is it crazy to try to find someone for this? Or should I wait until I can take on a full time employee?

YABU: It's crap
YANBU: There's someone out there for you (maybe)

SoulofanAggron · 16/03/2021 20:37

YANBU, sounds good to me. Smile

BrawTime · 16/03/2021 20:38

I work in a senior admin role, 37 hours a week for under 200 a month more than what you’re offering. I’d bite your hand off!

NettleTea · 16/03/2021 20:38

ooh Im in Sussex.....

NettleTea · 16/03/2021 20:39

please please please be near Hastings

Standrewsschool · 16/03/2021 20:39

Can I do the job working from home? I’ll even take a pay ut £ 15 per hour

Viviennemary · 16/03/2021 20:46

I think it would suit a lot of people.

BellamyBells · 16/03/2021 20:46

Like everyone else - in a heartbeat, yes!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 16/03/2021 20:46

@LucyMaxwellDM

I’d do it in a heartbeat!
Those were the very words that came into my mind!
alwaysscared · 16/03/2021 20:47

Yes please, how do I apply....

poppinpink · 16/03/2021 20:50

I would do it!

usedandabusedx1000 · 16/03/2021 20:53

I’d bite your hand off

Subordinateclause · 16/03/2021 20:56

That's an amazing salary - full time, it's more than I earn as a teacher of 8 years.

LadyDanburysCane · 16/03/2021 20:56

Where do I apply? That’s less hours than I currently do but nearly twice the hourly rate! (school admin).

I have an enhanced DBS check etc. good with numbers and people....

pastabest · 16/03/2021 21:02

Just checking given the error you have acknowledged regarding holidays...

You have taken account of all your employers costs? NI? Potentially a pension? Sick pay, holiday pay etc etc?

Is the £20 an hour what you can afford to pay someone everything like that included or is the hourly wage actually going to end up less than that?

If they do decide to take unpaid school holidays and their 28 days leave across the 5.6week holiday they are entitled to that's potentially 18.6 weeks a year they won't be in the office, that's nearly half the year.

£20 an hour is more than I'm being paid in a registered profession that requires a degree and a specific postgraduate qualification to be allowed to do it...

KatherineOfGaunt · 16/03/2021 21:05

This is just the thing my husband would like to do if it was local.

sparklefarts · 16/03/2021 21:07

Jesus I'd kill for that job.

Hi, I'm qualified enough in finance snd admin and am very lovely, nice to meet you OP 😃

If you'd be happy with someone working from home at the other end of the country, I'd would be perfect 👌 👌👌

Do you like cake? 😃🤣🤣

Hallyup5 · 16/03/2021 21:09

Been looking for a job with similar hours for ages. They don't seem to exist. There are so many parents who would love those hours at that wage. You'll find someone in a split second.

2bazookas · 16/03/2021 21:11

The hours would fit in well with schoolchildren, so you should get plenty of takers

raincamepouringdown · 16/03/2021 21:13

Pay is better than TAs make hourly. You'll have many applicants.

Blimeyoreilly2020 · 16/03/2021 21:16

Meeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!😆 Yes, please!

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 16/03/2021 21:16

Hell yes loads of people would jump at that.

Damfino · 16/03/2021 21:21

Honestly? You're offering too much, I'd wonder what the catch was. I wouldn't apply as I'd think it would be too good to be true or it wouldn't last.

I think you'd be better off offering a lower rate, say around £12/14 per hour and see how it works out with your successful candidate. You'd still attract a decent candidates as I think a lot of people would be prepared to accept a lower rate for term-time/part-time hours.

FWIW I have been an administrator for many, many years, for me, a role with the potential to develop is attractive in itself, aside from the pay and flexibility.

And to echo a previous poster, please consider candidates without a degree or A levels. I don't have either but have been employed in roles where they have been a requirement (usually by covering a temporary contract elsewhere in an organisation).

Wishing you every success in finding your ideal employee.

CustardGoodJamGoodMeatGood · 16/03/2021 21:24

Would you accept a remote worker?😂 me, based in Yorkshire this job would be perfect if I was closer ha

IdblowJonSnow · 16/03/2021 21:26

I would love to do this job for those hours and pay.
