Would you want a job like this? (Part time, term time)

I'm tentatively thinking about taking on an employee but I keep going back and forth between thinking someone out there would love it or that no one would.

Job details:

3 hours per day, Mon-Fri, 9:30-12:30
£20 per hour (£1,200 per month)
4 weeks paid holiday per year but can take all of school holidays off unpaid if desired
Mostly admin but would need to pass background checks as would be handling sensitive info
Must be very good with both numbers and people (especially people!)
Potential to progress

I know it's a decent hourly rate but because it's only three hours a day it still only amounts to £1,200 per month, so I'm not sure if many people would want (or could afford) that. I need someone with qualifications too due to the nature of the business. Is it crazy to try to find someone for this? Or should I wait until I can take on a full time employee?

YABU: It's crap
YANBU: There's someone out there for you (maybe)

It's a really generous salary at hours many parents would kill for.

You need to make the first part of the application a test or assessment, or else you will be wading through hundreds of applications. And I mean hundreds.

I used to have a great wee freelance opportunity and making people go through a fairly onerous application process was the only way to weed out time wasters.

StopGuacAndRoll · 16/03/2021 20:11

Hi OP, if you need someone quicker you can always employ a freelancer. Mine have been with me for 3+ years

Jenasaurus · 16/03/2021 20:11

Anywhere near Crawley @AnonymousAuroch ?

WhySoSensitive · 16/03/2021 20:12

Absolutely? You are aware for a lot of people that is an average wage for full time hours right?! It was for me before I became a SAHP.

housecoat1968 · 16/03/2021 20:13

Hell yes!

tillyandmilly · 16/03/2021 20:13

if I saw this advert I would definitely go for it! £20.00 per hour is very generous - I am applying for jobs £9.00 per hour admin - and applying for full time as the pay is dire!

Oblomov21 · 16/03/2021 20:14

Are you serious? DJ you really need to ask? HmmMany mothers would love it and the hourly rate is fab.

Harriedgymmum · 16/03/2021 20:14

Where can I apply! I work 35 hours per week, term time only for less than this monthly salary!

YerAWizardHarry01 · 16/03/2021 20:16

Please tell me you're in East anglia?!

oohmyback · 16/03/2021 20:17

Sounds bloody amazing! Also soon the be ex teacher!!

hauntedvagina · 16/03/2021 20:19

This sounds like a great job, and you sound like you'd be a great boss to work for.

The only thing I'd query is the need for "strong a-levels or a degree". Would you really discount a candidate with the right skills set if they didn't have a degree or a levels? FWIW I do a role covering the majority of the areas you have mentioned, however am educated to BTEC level in an area that couldn't be further removed for the industry I currently work in.

It sounds like you're a small business (I may be wrong). The right personality and skills set will serve you far better than an irrelevant degree.

GinAndTonicOnIt · 16/03/2021 20:19

Please tell me you're near Horsham! Sounds perfect for me and am genuinely interested!

fishonabicycle · 16/03/2021 20:20

Where are you? Kent or East Sussex and I'm interested ... Lots of experience in financial industry.

Flossy05 · 16/03/2021 20:20

I work 15 hours over 3 days which works out really well for me as a mum with school aged children. I earn about the same as a senior scientist in the NHS.

Dcadmam001 · 16/03/2021 20:23

I wish I could move to Sussex...

HitsAndMrs · 16/03/2021 20:24

Wow. I've just completed a 4 year degree and start on £11 an hour in the NHS!!
I'd give it up for that job!!

EmotionallyEncumbered · 16/03/2021 20:26

I'm a teaching assistant and earn less than that a month working 8:45 - 3:15, people will bite your hand off!

Emmelina · 16/03/2021 20:28

That sounds absolutely ideal, to be honest!

TheBigBazookasOfBrendaBurgess · 16/03/2021 20:29

Yes, please, OP.

SpringSunshineandTulips · 16/03/2021 20:31

Where in Sussex? This sounds amazing.

Saz12 · 16/03/2021 20:32

Sounds like a fab role for someone! Enough to be interesting and involved.

Can I suggest though, that as this is your business, you look hard at what you’re paying? On the face of it It’s very generous. You could potentially recruit someone very experienced (eg kids starting school been out of workplace for a few years, or someone older not yet ready to retire - MIL is in her early 70’s and works similar hours - the extra money pays for nicer holidays than her small pension would, but she actively wants to do it).

fullofhope100 · 16/03/2021 20:32

think you're sorted OP.

Ilovesandwiches · 16/03/2021 20:32

I’d apply!

justanotherneighinparadise · 16/03/2021 20:33

Errrrm yes please!

CandyLeBonBon · 16/03/2021 20:35

Bloody hell if you're in West Sussex where do I apply?
