Bought a lovely Victorian flat with my partner however the previous occupant left this truly awful painting. Am I being unreasonable to just throw it away? Partner seems to think we could sell it! I just want it gone as it’s giving me nightmares just looking at it.

OP posts:

How big is it? Can I have it?

StudentProblems · 02/03/2021 09:14

Are you dead?

Lonelycrab · 02/03/2021 09:17

Just chuck it. So much bad art in the world, you aren't losing anything by getting rid of one more crappy effort.

IndecentCakes · 02/03/2021 09:24

The demon will post instead, after consuming OP's soul.

HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 02/03/2021 09:28

Excuse me, I am the artist and I am VERY OFFENDED at this thread. I will be back to further express my displeasure after medication time.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 02/03/2021 09:28

Looks like a nightmarish relic from a student art show that got deliberately 'lost in the move' to me... 😂 Stick it on freecycle or accidentally put your foot through it.

EnoughnowIthink · 02/03/2021 09:31

have you tried one of those google image reverse things? it might be worth something?

youvegottenminuteslynn · 02/03/2021 09:33

What if OP hasn't returned because now she's STUCK IN THE PAINTING?!

That's given me flashbacks to the painting in The Witches... shudder

littlepattilou · 02/03/2021 09:36

God that's horrific. Shock

Bit like one of Phoebe's pics on FRIENDS! (Sorry if someone has already posted something about Phoebe's pics. Can't be arsed to RTFT!)

Tinkerbell456 · 02/03/2021 09:39

Am I strange? No living room space for phoebes pic but yet I can’t hate it.

MacDuffsMuff · 02/03/2021 09:48

You know what happens if you look at it three times one after the other. Don't you ..?

NameChangedForThisFeb21 · 02/03/2021 09:50

@MacDuffsMuff

You know what happens if you look at it three times one after the other. Don't you ..?
Why would you?!

I can’t unsee it after one mere glance!

(swiftly runs back out of thread)

PussGirl · 02/03/2021 09:50

Horrible & creepy!

I follow a Facebook page called "Terrible Art in Charity Shops" - looking forward to seeing this one pop up sometime soon Grin

Sandgrown1970 · 02/03/2021 09:51

Who would ever have thought “Terrible Art In Charity Shops” would become the new “Cancel the Cheque” in 2021?!

Anna12345678910 · 02/03/2021 09:52

@SprogletsMum

No matter how many times you sell that painting it will end up back on your wall in its place Shock
Brilliant ..... it's many years since I've seen those sort of films...
Brunt0n · 02/03/2021 09:53

It’s a HELL no from me

iljatdip · 02/03/2021 10:05

Horrific thing. I'd sell it though - someone will want it.

cliffdiver · 02/03/2021 10:05

I wouldn't risk burning it...

katysukaty · 02/03/2021 10:09

I'm surprised at some of the advice, hence my posting. I don't like the painting but looks relatively well done and it has a signature (tho can't be made out).
Not sure of the legalities - as it was left by previous owners does it become part of the sale?
If it does now belong to you then I would take it to be valued - years ago I took a fan to Sothebys to ask their opinion/value, a free service. (I lived in London, it wasn't worth much, but their opinion was free & they did take time and look at it properly)
If you have an auction house near you perhaps ask their opinion first.
(if the service is free). You never know it might be worth a lot, best to find out first.

CharlotteRose90 · 02/03/2021 10:09

I’d burn that urgh what an awful painting. Would give me nightmares
