Bought a lovely Victorian flat with my partner however the previous occupant left this truly awful painting. Am I being unreasonable to just throw it away? Partner seems to think we could sell it! I just want it gone as it’s giving me nightmares just looking at it.

You absolutely cannot chuck it! It has bought me great joy (am still laughing at it). It is a masterpiece. I would be tempted instead to bequeath it anonymously to The National Gallery where it can be enjoyed more widely!

Mxflamingnoravera · 02/03/2021 08:09

It's fugly as sin. Give it away, it's not worth the effort of trying to sell it.

oohyoudevilyou · 02/03/2021 08:10

My DSis used to paint weird shit like this for A level art when she was a tortured soul going through her emo phase. It's not that unique - there was loads of it uploaded onto websites 20 years ago. Bin it.

Hugoslavia · 02/03/2021 08:14

Actually, I would wrap it up and send it to their solicitors so that it can be reunited with its owners. Imagine their horror at it following them to their new home!

IndecentCakes · 02/03/2021 08:18

Better still, find out where they have gone and leave it on the doorstep under cover of darkness. Write 'I will never leave you' in tomato ketchup on the path or something.

Hugoslavia · 02/03/2021 08:19

Definitely put it over the bed. It might give your DH another ten minutes at least

@SprogletsMum

No matter how many times you sell that painting it will end up back on your wall in its place Shock
Christ Almighty!

It will!

It certainly will!

The previous occupants of your home HAD TO SELL THE HOUSE to get rid of it!

You are stuck with it until the end of time - unless it kills you first, of course.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 02/03/2021 08:23

It does have a signature which I can’t quite make out and there’s nothing written on the back

Satan usually just scrawls an indecipherable sigil, I believe. Rosebean92

Jeremyironseverything · 02/03/2021 08:25

The op is missing. Has she been doomed forever?

sapnupuas · 02/03/2021 08:25

I think you just leave it for the next occupier to find.

malteasergeezer · 02/03/2021 08:26

It looks like a Francis Bacon. Could be worth ££££.

Teandsympathy · 02/03/2021 08:32

Oh that’s very art collegey. I would donate it to charity but that would mean having it in your house for another couple of months. Can you offer it for free on a local Facebook page?

SchadenfreudePersonified · 02/03/2021 08:38

SpiderinaWingMirror · 02/03/2021 08:42

Teenage angst. Oh, the humanity....

Art coursework. Chuck it.

Empressofthemundane · 02/03/2021 08:50

Put it on EBay for a penny and see what happens. Not my taste at all, but you never know who out there may want it. If no one bites put it out for the bin men.

Paddy1234 · 02/03/2021 08:51

Place marking obviously 😂

FelicityPike · 02/03/2021 08:52

Burn it

I know! This is somewhat concerning..................
DrSbaitso · 02/03/2021 08:59

Burn it at midnight with sage and lavender, and call in an exorcist.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 02/03/2021 09:00

Were you a difficult buyer OP....did they leave it as a gift to serve you right ??

I think the guest room is the place for it, but with cutesy fairy lights and a nice garland of fake flowers just to soften it a little :o :o

Sophoclesthefox · 02/03/2021 09:05

I’m very afraid that OP summoned the demon out of the painting when she posted here Shock

Tell us you’re OK!
