Bought a lovely Victorian flat with my partner however the previous occupant left this truly awful painting. Am I being unreasonable to just throw it away? Partner seems to think we could sell it! I just want it gone as it’s giving me nightmares just looking at it.

Anyone played Layers of Fear? Looks like the paintings in that.

Tumbleweed101 · 02/03/2021 11:28

Is it a painting or a print? If it’s an original painting it could be worth something.

MorganKitten · 02/03/2021 11:30

I know someone who’d snap that up!

Rosebean92liveson · 02/03/2021 11:36

Hello everyone! I’m alive! I survived the night! Thank you for your concern over my welfare however I was just sleeping lol

Last night I took the painting and put it outside by the side of the road. I am pleased to report the painting is now gone. No sign of it - gone! I’m so happy it’s out of my hair. My partner caved in after I showed him this thread and said “fine just Chuck it then!”

I appreciate that some of you would rather it not be wasted and that I should value it but the painting was so damn horrible and had such an awful energy I just wanted it gone. Also I’d hate to scare the crap out of a charity shop volunteer by leaving that with them! I’m sure it’s gone to a good home wherever it is now Smile

Bit of backstory we bought the flat after it had been empty for many months so we never met the previous owner. The estate agent told us that the owner left to live in Norway so we’ve had 0 contact with him.

Now that it’s gone the flat feels so much “lighter”. Waking up and seeing your responses had really given me a good laugh so thank you Grin

So to summarise the painting is gone and I’m fine lol

HumousWhereTheHeartIs · 02/03/2021 11:38

Did Phoebe Buffay paint it?

springiscoming12 · 02/03/2021 11:41

Burn it with fire Shock

shouldistop · 02/03/2021 11:41

Ooh op I reckon it will be back in your house later

TatianaBis · 02/03/2021 11:45

the owner left to live in Norway

I’ll bet he did. I think we know what “Norway” means.

ShadierThanaPalmTree · 02/03/2021 11:46

Jesusss Christ, it would be unreasonable of you to attempt to throw it out without getting your home blessed by a priest first Grin

iloveeverykindofcat · 02/03/2021 11:50

Well now you've just gone and made it angry.

ButterscotchWhip · 02/03/2021 11:51

You're going to need an exorcism. Failing that, pop it on Ebay. It's hilariously awful but it is someone's handiwork, so don't bin it.

I think you are an imposter. I think you are that thing in the painting posing as Rosebean. I think we're all doomed.
mainsfed · 02/03/2021 11:55

It's a cross between Gollum/Beowulf/The Scream.

TeaTimeReader · 02/03/2021 11:57

Freecycle?

youvegottenminuteslynn · 02/03/2021 11:59

The plot thickens... this new update means the original owner had to flee the country to get away from it Shock

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 02/03/2021 12:02

I think we know what “Norway” means.

You suspect that the previous owner and a parrot are happily wondering through the fjords?

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 02/03/2021 12:02

*wandering

Icenii · 02/03/2021 12:02

I thought there was writting in the background? Large letters?

IntermittentParps · 02/03/2021 12:03

Christ, that's terrifying, but I reckon if you'd put it up for sale some weirdo appreciator would have bought it.

ScottChegg · 02/03/2021 12:11

Did the previous owner perhaps have a partner? The scenario I'm imagining is that the previous owner (PO) painted this and was inordinately pleased with themselves; meanwhile their significant other (SO) felt as most of us would if our other half insisted on hanging this monstrosity in our home. Upon moving they saw their opportunity to get rid of it and seized it with both hands, pretended they'd packed it but hid it somewhere, sneaking it back into the flat at the last moment and abandoning it!

And that is why it's been left behind.

Sophoclesthefox · 02/03/2021 12:13

That’s what a demon would say, rosebean Shock

Please update us when it appears back on your wall with more blood on it...

DGRossetti · 02/03/2021 12:18

That would slot right into any museums post WW1 collection, when art reflected the horror of industrialised slaughter.

Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery has a room devoted to that era and style. For the sake of an email I'd drop them a photo ....

SleepingStandingUp · 02/03/2021 12:18

tes you would be UTTERLY unreasonable you irresponsible hoodlum.

salt circle on the floor outside, picture in the middle, more salt over it, then gasoline, then burn it. until its just embers then mix with more salt, put into a metal locked box and dump in the deep ocean.

DGRossetti · 02/03/2021 12:20

Alternatively, maybe a post on Fortean Times FB page Grin

SleepingStandingUp · 02/03/2021 12:21

Bit of backstory we bought the flat after it had been empty for many months so we never met the previous owner. The estate agent told us that the owner left to live in Norway so we’ve had 0 contact with him yeah right, more like he doesn't want to admit to cleaning up the remnants of his devoured body before you visited.
