It's a Parking One

Ok mumsnetters I need some ideas.
I popped out for 10 minutes this morning and come home to a random car on my driveway (outside my house). This is private property and allocated parking for a New Build. The Main Street it's off is permit parking only - this car has a permit.
The only place I can park is blocking it in causing a semi obstruction which I've done.
Police won't help as a civil matter.
Note has been left on the car by me telling them it's private property.
What else can I do?! Immediate neighbours have no idea whose car this is. Angry

If its on your property you can have it towed

ILoveFlumps · 10/02/2021 08:03

Assume that's at my cost?

Hopefully it's just an error. Is it obvious that your driveway belongs to your house?

To a normal human - yes. It's right outside my front door Confused

Go out for a walk so you’re not there when they come back. Too early for a drink so you can’t move your car!

Justa47 · 10/02/2021 08:07

@ILoveFlumps

Block it and leave note.
And wait. They are in your private space

Winterwaves · 10/02/2021 08:08

Sorry OP, but with a parking thread we need a diagram - it's the rules Grin

Needsmustnow · 10/02/2021 08:08

This is private property and allocated parking for a New Build.

What do you mean by this? And how obvious to a stranger is it that the land is a driveway to your home?

HerMammy · 10/02/2021 08:11

Diagram please? is it a driveway or an allocated parking bay?

Ideasplease322 · 10/02/2021 08:16

Love a good parking thread.

This happened to a friend of mine in a new build. She blocked the car (belonging to a neighbour who lived in a flat so didn’t have allocated parking). She then had a shower and ignored him hammering on her door.

Apparently she had made him late for work😂😂.

The OP said its right outside her front door. Can't get much more obvious surely? And the car has a permit so must be familiar with the roads if they are local?
wellthatsunusual · 10/02/2021 08:17

I'd block it in.

ILoveFlumps · 10/02/2021 08:18

Apologies for forgetting the diagram. Dutifully attached. Please note not to scale!

Oh we so need the obligatory diagram.
Parking myself for developments.

ILoveFlumps · 10/02/2021 08:21

So I'm currently parked behind the bad car. NDN don't need to go out so all is good.

Block in a be unavailable for the rest of the day

Ideasplease322 · 10/02/2021 08:21

There was a previous thread where the car stayed for days and then just disappeared!

BlackCatShadow · 10/02/2021 08:21

Actually the diagram does help.

I’d block them in and let your neighbors know to knock if they need in or out. They’ll come knocking eventually, so give them a bollocking when they do. I wouldn’t leave a note.

AmIAWeed · 10/02/2021 08:22

If the car has a permit is there any reference details for the council to be able to call them? Or even state an address? Mine years ago said which house we lived at printed on it

Unfortunately not. And the council won't help either as not a public highway Angry

Is it really bad this was my first thought too? Grin

Agree block them in.

And when they knock for you to move your car be busy and tell them of course you will in 30 minutes when you've finished dinner. Smile sweetly and close front door!

I did that in my new build when people used my numbered space and I'd park behind them.

3 days and it stopped!

Godimabitch · 10/02/2021 08:23

Well quite obvious then! How strange! Block it in. Be in the bath or out for a walk when they come back for it, if it's too convenient for them then they'll keep doing it. Check on dvla if it's taxed and MOTed too.

It is taxed and MOTd. It's quite a new car. Running a hot bath as we speak. Will watch a bit of Netflix and have briefed the teens not to answer the door under any circumstances!

When they knock on the door wanting out, you will be just about to start a job interview over Zoom won't you? And you'll be expecting it to last for about an hour. And you need to make a good impression so you obviously won't be able to ask them to wait whilst you move your car.
