It's a Parking One

Ok mumsnetters I need some ideas.
I popped out for 10 minutes this morning and come home to a random car on my driveway (outside my house). This is private property and allocated parking for a New Build. The Main Street it's off is permit parking only - this car has a permit.
The only place I can park is blocking it in causing a semi obstruction which I've done.
Police won't help as a civil matter.
Note has been left on the car by me telling them it's private property.
What else can I do?! Immediate neighbours have no idea whose car this is. Angry

It doesn’t necessarily look like a drive from your diagram, just a road that your house is on. And the statement “this is private property and allocated parking for a new build” is confusing. Is it allocated parking or a drive?

That's just my diagram. There are no road markings on the entrance to us, and due to previous issues there are ample no parking/private property signs (installed by NDN).

Are you anywhere near a train station or anything? I am wondering if they have parked for the day?

SaltyTootsieToes · 10/02/2021 08:33

Thanks for the diagram. Good to know 1) it’s private road there because your obstruction is not obstructing a public road so you won’t get towed or ticketed 2) your NDN is not going out so you’ll not be inconveniencing them and 3) the offending Parker won’t be able to remedy their car situation either without going through you.

Totally agree with the others above to be sure you’re not available when they do come back. If it’s the evening, you do know you can’t move your car if you’ve had some wine don’t you know? If a lot to drink, you also can’t drive early in the morning either. Sometimes my DH goes for a run and he accidentally takes my car keys with him. Does that perhaps happen to you too?

Not really. It's a 15 min walk to the town centre but everything is pretty much closed at moment.

I would also have blocked it in and not move unless convenient to me to do so.

Grin great idea! I definitely won't be available quickly when they do return!

That really is strange then.

ApolloandDaphne · 10/02/2021 08:38

Cheeky buggers. Is there ample space on the street for them to park?

TVDFan · 10/02/2021 08:41

Ohhh a parking thread 🍿

Atalune · 10/02/2021 08:41

Odd

Toorapid · 10/02/2021 08:41

We occasionally have a similar issue because of being near a school. I love the idea of blocking them in and going out etc but I always worry that they know where I live...They have the advantage there.

Doesn't it worry other what damage they might do in retaliation?

EarringsandLipstick · 10/02/2021 08:44

I never get this piece of advice that's always recommended on these threads.

This parking situation does seem very odd, and in CF territory, for sure.

Yes, park your car blocking them (you've no choice) but once they turn up, you can surely just get annoyed / react as you wish; why bother with the PA 'in a Zoom meeting', 'having my dinner' suggestions??

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 10/02/2021 08:45

That's really inconsiderate.

It also shows just how little access to legal remedies we have to in situations like this.

mogloveseggs · 10/02/2021 08:51

We get the occasional Pillock parking half across our drive but they've actually parked on your drive! Major CF!

Godimabitch · 10/02/2021 08:51

@EarringsandLipstick what's to stop them doing it again if it doesn't inconvenience them?

Oldbutstillgotit · 10/02/2021 08:57

I love a parking thread !
OP when out NDN moved in just over a year ago we had so many parking problems , usually one of them ( 5 car family) parking across our drive . Police were involved . Anyway one day I came home and one of them was on my drive ! I parked across the end of the drive , went inside and waited . A couple of hours later , knock at door so I opened it while clutching a large glass of wine . I couldn’t possibly move my car . Huge row but things improved after that !

FlowersAreBeautiful · 10/02/2021 08:58

Do you have any other neighbours they could be visiting? Can you knock on a few doors?
I had a neighbour whose mum used to park on other neighbours drives even though there was plenty of space on the road. She parked on our drive once, we gave her an earful and she never did it again. Didn't stop her doing it to other neighbours though. Some people are so cheeky and don't care

TakeTheCuntOutOfScunthorpe · 10/02/2021 09:02

I got lucky when this happened to me because a neighbour had a trolley jack (I think that's what it's called - a jack on wheels). He was able to lift the locked wheels off the ground and push the offending car out of the way. Naturally he left it in an unsafe position so the fucker got ticketed! Grin

islockdownoveryet · 10/02/2021 09:06

Oh why do on mumsnet give bad advice , people don’t just park in someone’s drive unless they are a twat . Do you live near shops / hospital? If not they must be visiting.
They have parked there in error , someone has told them to park there . ? Or it could be they are cf .
I bet one of your neighbours know very well who’s car it is . This happened to me once NDn denied all knowledge but she knew it was her dh friend visiting relative further down the street and he thought it was ok . Hmm
I’m not sure why she wouldn’t tell me all I wanted him to do was move so I could go out .
Anyway by all means block the cf in but if they knock let them get the car don’t ignore the door . You have every right to be annoyed but hear what they have to say ask them why ? .

wifterwafter · 10/02/2021 09:07

Shamelessly placemarking to see the outcome.

dancemom · 10/02/2021 09:07

Ooh a parking thread is just what I need this morning! I'm in a zoom meeting at 11am though so please no exciting developments between 11 and 12 😆

ILoveFlumps · 10/02/2021 09:07

Still no sign of anyone. Did think about asking local houses but with Covid it's probably not wise to go door knocking.
Guess it's just a waiting game until the owner returns.
Very frustrating that legally there is minimal help available with situations like these.

CakeIsEternal · 10/02/2021 09:08

Stupid question, but how do you have A car towed from your drive? Just call a tow firm or the council or who? I didn't know you could do that!
