It's a Parking One

Ok mumsnetters I need some ideas.
I popped out for 10 minutes this morning and come home to a random car on my driveway (outside my house). This is private property and allocated parking for a New Build. The Main Street it's off is permit parking only - this car has a permit.
The only place I can park is blocking it in causing a semi obstruction which I've done.
Police won't help as a civil matter.
Note has been left on the car by me telling them it's private property.
What else can I do?! Immediate neighbours have no idea whose car this is. Angry

Couldn't you knock on the neighbours doors and then retreat a couple of metres while you ask them if they know about the car?

Iknowwhatudidlastsummer · 10/02/2021 09:13

people don’t just park in someone’s drive unless they are a twat

unless the OP decided to hide the fact that the "car" is a big yellow and green/ red and yellow vehicle with flashing light

which is unlikely

yes they are. No one can "mistakenly" park on somebody's DRIVE or up to their front door and pretend they thought it was remotely ok.

billybagpuss · 10/02/2021 09:15

Have that actually blocked your ndn in or is that just the scale of the diagram?

That made me chuckle. It's definitely not an emergency vehicle. It's a new ish black Vauxhall. It's very obviously a driveway. On street parking is minimal and can be hard to find which is why I suspect this imbecile thought my driveway was an alternative option.

Just my lack of drawing ability unfortunately. Otherwise we could have had it towed away Angry

In our estate someone blocked a car in that was in their allocated and numbered space and the person drove over a grass verge to get out. She put it on Facebook complaining about how cheeky the person was but quite a few people thought they had balls. We used to have the best parking since at our old flat and many times some test would park there.

wellthatsunusual · 10/02/2021 09:19

OP does your drive have eg a different colour of brick/stones/tarmac to the public road? Or a line of kerbing or whatever that clearly marks it as a drive? Because if it does, there is no way that anyone parked there by accident. And the only person who can tell someone it is ok to park in a driveway is the householder themselves so 'the neighbour says it's ok' is no sort of excuse either.

Chanandlerbong01 · 10/02/2021 09:21

Be careful that you’ve blocked them in properly or not at all, you don’t want them to try squeeze past and damage your car.

AngelicInnocent · 10/02/2021 09:22

Op, you said police won't do anything. Does that mean you have checked with them?

I only ask as when similar happened to us, it was a stolen car that had been abandoned there.

Obviously, we had checked with all the neighbours before contacting the police.

harriethoyle · 10/02/2021 09:24

If we weren't in lockdown I'd think they were parked for the day but there's nowhere to bloody go at the moment... definitely don't door knock and definitely open the wine on the dot of 12 noon!!

Frazzledbutcalm · 10/02/2021 09:24

That was my thought chan. OP, if they come back demanding you move, and you can’t coz you’ve had a drink ;-), I’d either call the police for threatening behaviour, or video them if they try to move theirs anyway. That way you have evidence of any damage.

Flipping cheek, I’d be raging!

mmgirish · 10/02/2021 09:24

Are you in the UK? It might be a bit early to have a glass of wine and claim you can't drive if you are.

Yes. Different paving on the drive and no road markings. It's very obviously a drive if that makes sense?

What is it with people? It is obviously your own drive on your land! Our previous houses have had drives but not dropped kerbs however, we all respected each other's drives at one house. It never happened at the next one; my neighbours would block me in because it wasn't a dropped kerb but oddly enough hated it happening to them!

It's so much better here. Most of the houses do not have drives so we all park wherever we can on the street. However, those that do have drives we do not park on or across!

Star81 · 10/02/2021 09:25

How odd. I wouldn’t be in any rush to let them out when they return.

Unless the car can morph into a motorbike it cannot get out without me moving my car first!

Yes I called the police first. They said to call the council. Council said to call the police. Seemingly no one can help.

Maybe a relative rushed to help a family member and just dumped their car. No doubt we will find out Wink

SpringtimeBluebells · 10/02/2021 09:28

Has anyone turned up for the car yet? How long has it been there?

SeasonFinale · 10/02/2021 09:28

Don't you have a handy rugby team like a previous poster had? Grin

HowQuicklyTwoAndTwenty890 · 10/02/2021 09:31

Just parking myself here. :)

is there a link to the convenient rugby team thread by any chance? i vaguely recall it!

ILoveFlumps · 10/02/2021 09:33

Still no sign of anyone. And no rugby team on speed dial either!
Whilst I'm fuming at the audacity of this car owner, I'm very conscious about not damaging said car in anyway.

Shamelessly place marking cos I love a good parking thread

YouDoNotHaveTheAuthority · 10/02/2021 09:35

When did you notice the car there? Your car can't have been parked on the drive, you popped out this morning and found it had appeared while you were gone?

Do you have any nice nature walks nearby? Perhaps a dog walker.

Iknowwhatudidlastsummer · 10/02/2021 09:35

Is the OP or her NDN being currently helped by a family member?

No.

So the driver is a CF. If there was any kind of emergency, they would have parked in front of the emergency.
