AIBU to think women should not be banned from Social media for asking the question - Thread 2

Many women have been suspended from sm for asking the question:
“Do you believe that male sexed people should be allowed access to changing rooms and showers for female sexed people and teenagers?”
Seems like a perfectly reasonable question which we should be allowed to ask.

@IamBarbaraofKent
I am not an imposter. As I said on the other thread, anyone named Barbara is someone likely to be of sound mind and reasoning. Doubly so if they reside in the great county of the Garden of England.

The Barbaras' of Kent have regular candelight suppers together, women only of course. Did you not receive the invite?

lifeturnsonadime · 29/01/2021 17:11

@JoodyBlue

I think there is more than one Barbara of Kent *@life* Wink
oh my god there are multiples!

It's Friday, time for a Wine I think!

MaudTheInvincible · 29/01/2021 17:11

Is it a Barbara from Kent or a Kentish Barbara tho?

KentishBabs · 29/01/2021 17:14

@IamBarbaraofKent - I did - Cheers Grin Wine

See you all at the candlelight supper later! Wine

CorvusPurpureus · 29/01/2021 17:18

To be fair, Barbara of Kent sounds like a kickass mediaeval baroness.

I wouldn't mess with her 😂

IamBarbaraofKent · 29/01/2021 17:30

@BarbaraofKent

Semantics.

😂

Would you say that to someone having any other kind of reconstruction? Of course you bloody wouldn't.

Could you give an example of another type of reconstruction you mean?

Do you honestly think that if a man has breast implants then that changes his sex and makes him a woman? Or even if you has his penis removed (pretty rare these days but anyway?) Is that what a woman is? A man without a penis?

I think the topic of discussion at next months candelight supper is clear:

What is a woman? A man without a penis?

It should encourage lively debate. I am of course not against dicks in general, my own DH is called Richard after all.

gardenbird48 · 29/01/2021 17:33

just seen on twitter - someone has cracked it!!

Apparently quite a few women already choose to pop into the men's to use the cubicles if they can't wait for the ladies. Therefore men are quite used to female/female presenting people wandering past while they have a wee. Coupled with the fact that
a)men aren't that great at identifying people's sex at a glance
b)some aren't very observant anyway,
c)lots of men love a good dressing up night out like tarts/vicars, Rocky Horror Show etc always choosing the 'female' outfits,

So there is no reason why transwomen would have any issues in the men's (no more than other vulnerable male groups like teenagers or smaller camp men) - they would certainly suffer less tension from worrying if us mean ladies are going to shout at them.

So the men's is actually mixed sex (although maybe we should ask the men if they mind women trooping in), leaving the ladies free for, well, ladies (actually I'm not sure if I count as a lady but I am 100% female)

ScreamingBeans · 29/01/2021 17:35

Wow ScreamingBeans is that screenshot for real?

Unfortunately yes.

There are many, many more which are similar...

The people who are arguing that transwomen are women, are arguing that these people are women and if you don't obediently agree, you're a bigot.

These are the people they are arguing have the right to dress alongside our daughters.

Are men just going to work their way through every common name for a woman, until every name a woman has represents something horrible and disgusting?

So no Barbara or Karen or Tracey and Sharon or Felicia... who is next?

They really show how much they hate us don't they.

Mommy issues.

JoodyBlue · 29/01/2021 17:42

I did have a chortle at "She is Voldemort" though. These guys are quite literally minded Grin

MumbleBee20 · 29/01/2021 17:45

I've been quietly lurking on both threads. I was just going to read for knowledge, but it got me thinking about how this would play out within a different population of people.
I'm on page 20, and have just read the labour link posted by littlbrowndog. Labour has a proud record of championing equality for women of all backgrounds, including BAME women, LGBT+ women, disabled women and working class women. This is a quote, that then leads onto how it is all really just about transwomen and any person who IDENTIFIES as a woman.
The problem I have is, why not any one who identifies as a black woman, or a disabled woman? Who has the right to tell anyone they are not disabled, when they have always felt like they are? Why are we not allowing self ID within the paralympics? Why can't I have disability rights and be included in their safeguarding, if I decide tomorrow that I am, and always have been a paraplegic trapped in an able bodied, body?

JoodyBlue · 29/01/2021 17:52

@MumbleBee20 I dislike the categorising of women into different groups. I honestly think although there are issues in society to be addressed specific to particular needs, we should align and find what is common to us all, rather than divide. I do think women on the whole often find that commonality. In answer to your question here, I am really not sure. But more than one person has said the same to me privately. I don't think under this logic, there is anything to stop you. But of course it would be unethical, in the same way that the TRA ideology is unethical.

But I have enjoyed the last two pages. I know when I'm beat...you lot are cracking Grin

RootyT00t · 29/01/2021 17:55

@Ereshkigalangcleg

Gwan gwan, why not give it a try, rather than scoring points?

Obviously I have my own ideas about why you don't.

Oh I can imagine. It's really not that deep.
ListeningQuietly · 29/01/2021 17:55

Gardenbird
a)men aren't that great at identifying people's sex at a glance
b)some aren't very observant anyway,
Indeed
Because men have not historically been on the receiving end of sexual violence

JoodyBlue · 29/01/2021 17:57

Is that you @Rooty? What have you done with Barbara? Wink Wine

RootyT00t · 29/01/2021 18:03

@JoodyBlue

Is that you *@Rooty*? What have you done with Barbara? Wink Wine
I've given her her rightful place as queen of this thread.

Feeling a bit like the kid who is a dick to their parents then feels bad and wants back in Grin

MumbleBee20 · 29/01/2021 18:08

@JoodyBlue I agree, and that's my point. I'm not sure i worded it how I meant it to come across 😬

It wouldn't stand in society. Everyone would unite and shut it down within seconds, and rightly so!

I wonder whether that is because race, disabilities, religions etc is something that both women and men experience together. They understand that it is more than just a feeling and that it is insulting to claim otherwise. They've fought together for the same rights and have both been disadvantaged.
Whereas only one half is being disadvantaged within women's rights.

JoodyBlue · 29/01/2021 18:13

@Rooty you are welcome Wine . We've all been there kid! I suspect your desire to stand up for people and argue for their cause, comes from a good place. I am really old, women like me fought for women's rights at a time when a women couldn't have a bank account without her husband's name on it!!! Times have changed so very much. There is an inconsistent logic to the TWAW argument. Most of us are trying to protect young people in these arguments.

lifeturnsonadime · 29/01/2021 18:14

I think that transableism is a thing.

It's fairly widely reported.

lifeturnsonadime · 29/01/2021 18:15

It does. I'm really not a arsehole.

Thank you.
