It’s just so nice to have some sparkle right now on these long cold nights.

There is some historical precedence re leaving it up till candlemass.....

Colleague thinks I’m ridiculous 😂

Bonkers! But a few houses, inc my neighbours still have theirs up. You could buy an indoor tree and put lights up 😁

FAQs · 25/01/2021 22:36

Less Christmassy indoor tree!

fruitpastille · 25/01/2021 22:36

Do you have a big house?! I agree with your colleague but I have lots of fairy lights - almost every room!

teuer · 25/01/2021 22:37

There’s no harm in it and if it’s making you happy then go for it . Life feels rather like a survival exercise right now and we need all the brightness ans cheer we can muster. I have fairy lights around my fireplace, book shelves in my living room and round my landing window and sill too. Makes me feel happy to see them so they’re staying put.

edwinbear · 25/01/2021 22:38

If it makes you happy YANBU. Personally, it would be annoying me now, but your house, your rules! Grin

PositiveLife · 25/01/2021 22:38

I took mine down this evening - initially the kids didn't want it taken down at all and then I've been ill.

Emeraldshamrock · 25/01/2021 22:39

Why not if it is giving you joy.

Browntile · 25/01/2021 22:40

Utterly bonkers but if it makes you smile right now who cares?! Smile
I bought a tree for the garden this year that I love and couldn’t bring myself to take down yet so I have renamed it a winter tree and am leaving it up for now Grin

ssd · 25/01/2021 22:40

@Ginsodden good on you, mine only came down the other weekend

rooarsome · 25/01/2021 22:41

If that's what makes you happy then go for it. I take mine down on Boxing Day 😂

Bluntness100 · 25/01/2021 22:42

I think if it makes you happy that’s fine, plenty of people have their Xmas tree up year round.

Personally I’d take it down and use some fairy lights instead, but we are all different,

FinallyFluid · 25/01/2021 22:46

We took all the baubles off the tree, there are 1000 lights on it and it is starting to look utterly tragic, but we are loathe to lose the sparkle, even my DH who would normally have to be hit over the head with nice lights has it lit before I come down every morning. Grin

It is eight foot, so you can imagine how much space it is taking up, but I care not a jot.

What ever floats your boat.

PinkiOcelot · 25/01/2021 22:48

I was a bit sad taking it down but it would have driven me mental by now. I took it down on 2nd January.

SunsetOverEasterIsland · 25/01/2021 22:49

YANBU we still have ours up. Makes me happy every evening when we switch the lights on. Our neighbour still has their outdoor lights up but we'd already taken ours down before it was mentioned about leaving them up until Candlemas. We'll miss it when we take it down.

BuggersMuddle · 25/01/2021 22:58

Took down the tree, but kept up a few nice strands of lights. Maybe a bit student digs, but I think they cheer the place up.

Ginsodden · 25/01/2021 22:58

What a gorgeous tree sunset 😍

Much more acceptance on here than at my work 😂

I’m also thinking I can get away with these mantelpiece decs all year. They’re not too Christmassy are they?

I e taken all the baubles etc off mine but left it up with the fairy lights on - figured it was no different now to a house plant

VestaTilley · 25/01/2021 23:06

Don’t leave it up past Candlemas, OP.

Other than that, knock yourself out. We’re strict Epiphany observers for the tree and decs in this house, but in this year of all years give yourself a break.

partyatthepalace · 25/01/2021 23:07

YABU. But you do you 🎄

Givemeabreak88 · 25/01/2021 23:07

Mines still up 😬

We are ordinarily pretty strict observers of Epiphany here as well, we observed it last year, well that went well didn't it ..... Grin
WaitingOnTheDaffodils · 25/01/2021 23:11

Christmas is long gone and I wouldn’t keep a tree up this long, that’s me though, but others should do what makes them happy.

MattHancocksPinkTie · 25/01/2021 23:13

We still have some fairy lights up. So much more cosier with the dark evenings Smile

EugenesAxe · 25/01/2021 23:18

This is the kind of thing I really couldn't give a shit about. It's not bothering anyone else, so you do as you like and your colleague can stand down.

I love the idea of it being essentially 'a house plant' though 😂

anomletteandaglassofwine · 25/01/2021 23:19

We still have ours up, if ever there was a need for fairy lights and sparky baubles, it's now!
