It’s just so nice to have some sparkle right now on these long cold nights.

There is some historical precedence re leaving it up till candlemass.....

Colleague thinks I’m ridiculous 😂

I took mine down at the end of the school Christmas holidays the same as usual. But dd bought a Christmas tree for her bedroom this year and only took it down today.

It would drive me mad to have one still up downstairs but everybody's different. If it makes you happy, keep it up.

EugenesAxe · 25/01/2021 23:22

I don't mean to sound harsh by saying that by the way. I mean it more in the sense of 'why is your colleague even bothering to raise her pulse over something so entirely unconnected with him/her.'

Leeds2 · 25/01/2021 23:24

It wouldn't happen in my house (didn't have a tree at all this year!) but, if you want one, keep it. Nobody else's business.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 25/01/2021 23:27

YaNBU to WANT it up but YABU to actually have it up! I personally like my own Christmas tree to be associated just with the nice memories of advent and then the Christmas period itself. I don’t want the gloominess of January and back to work and freezing cold etc all muddled up with nicer memories of Christmas time with it’s festive music, food, telly, time off work.

If I’m going to be miserable in January, I wanna be PROPERLY miserable!m, goddammit! Grin

BogRollBOGOF · 25/01/2021 23:28

Mine's still up and lit. It's not like there was a proper Christmas this year anyway. Tree, roast dinner, presents for kids. Yey.
None of that meaningless rubbish like seeing family, socialising or going to church.

Not like there's been anyone beyond thus household in my lounge for close to 12 months anyway.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 25/01/2021 23:30

Seriously, though, you could make the place nice with some winter greenery and fairy lights, and lots of glass or silvery type surfaces for the light to bounce off.

A Christmas tree is for Christmas, not just for life. Wink

nhsblue · 25/01/2021 23:50

I've still got my fairy lights up and they aren't coming down for the forseeable! Smile

To still have my Christmas tree up?
MerylStropp · 26/01/2021 00:01

Ours is still up, along with all the holly and cards! Often thought about leaving decorations up until Candlemas, but this year felt like the right time to try it. Normally a stickler for Epiphany but just didn't feel ready this year. It's a big tree, too - hardly shed a needle, but branches starting to droop slightly. Going to send a picture to the shop where we bought it and maybe they'll use it for marketing and give us a discount next year. DS will always remember the year he celebrated his late January birthday surrounded by festive paraphernalia. Grin No regrets, but tried it now and probably won't repeat the experience next year. Looking forward to the big clear-away next Monday!

Took · 26/01/2021 00:14

I missed the twinkle so bought those strings of fairy lights that you put up like a curtain, iykwim. I love them.

Get that tree down. 😆

LegendDairy · 26/01/2021 00:18

Do what you like. We don't have a tree but lights are up all year round.

Lovely1a2b3c · 26/01/2021 00:27

We took ours down on 14th or 15th January. I was going to keep it up until Candlemas but other family members were getting bored of it!

YANBU to keep it up for a bit of light in a difficult time!

IDKNABYBIF22 · 26/01/2021 01:07

I'm copying the queen and leaving ours up until the 6th of February 👸.

January is my least favourite month, so decided to leave it up as knew another lockdown would be coming. It's made this month more bearable and no one else is coming round anytime soon so it's just us who have to look at it. Whatever gets you through!

Scarby9 · 26/01/2021 01:14

We were supposed to have a week in a holiday apartment over Christmas - three households meeting, all 14 days isolated beforehand. When the revised Christmas bubble rules were brought in, we couldn't meet and our booking was transferred to Easter.

The newly bought plastic Christmas tree, slimline to fit more easily in the carr and decorated with left over tinsel and baubles, sits and waits in the corner of the kitchen - with less and less hope - for Easter and the planned meeting to exchange Christmas presents.

Rainbunny · 26/01/2021 10:12

Well whatever makes you happy, since we're in lockdown and no one else will be seeing it why not? I admit though that I'm pretty judgy about that in normal times.

Several houses in our neighbourhood have still got fairy type light decorations in their windows/porches which look pretty at night when I'm walking my dog. They're white lights and don't look specifically "Christmassy" so it works.

Santaiscovidfree · 26/01/2021 10:16

We still have our real tree up!! In the front window. Several walkers have commented on it cheering them up. So it will be staying!!
Until it is a beacon of twigs!!

Winniewonka · 26/01/2021 10:43

@nhsblue - You have a lovely home😀

MasterBeth · 26/01/2021 11:02

Yes, it’s dumb. It’s a Christmas tree. For Christmas.

Of course, I get that times are grim and lights are bright and cheerful.

So why not keep the lights and put them on something for appropriate for the spring that’s on its way?

VettiyaIruken · 26/01/2021 11:04

It's your tree in your house. What other people think doesn't matter. You live there not them and it makes you happy.

LaceyBetty · 26/01/2021 11:34

You do what you like, but it would drive me mad. I love Christmas, but only at Christmas.

Justthebeerlighttoguide · 26/01/2021 11:39

Mine is still up and is looking remarkably good its only been watered once since two weeks before xmas! I enjoy seeing the decs everyday.....will start to take things down over the next few weeks.

Purplecatshopaholic · 26/01/2021 11:41

Tree and tinsel are down. I have kept some of the fairy lights up though, and ok maybe its a bit of a chic House Beautiful faux pas (#sorrynotsorry) but its cheering me up! And the light in the downstairs toilet has just broken so its only twinkly fairy lights in there for light and its actually really nice, lol

kwiksavenofrillsusername · 26/01/2021 11:56

I took my fairy lights off the tree and hung them up. Place looks like a student flat but I don't care. Not like anyone is coming round. They'll probably come down around Easter or when evenings get a bit lighter.

I'm also still burning Xmas candles. I like the cinnamon-y smell and I'm not ready to switch to the spring-like scents yet.

Calmandmeasured1 · 26/01/2021 11:58

Seems pointless for you to take it down OP. You may as well keep it up now. It will save you a job later on in the year. Grin

peak2021 · 26/01/2021 12:00

You are not alone from what I see on my daily walks, and indeed some churches still have the crib on display. Though Jesus has grown to about a three year old in some of them.

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 26/01/2021 12:04

I think it's up to you and it affects nobody else. I miss the lights. There's a house in our village that keeps the tree up until February, I love seeing it.
