It’s just so nice to have some sparkle right now on these long cold nights.

There is some historical precedence re leaving it up till candlemass.....

Colleague thinks I’m ridiculous 😂

It's your house so up to you but I think it feels wrong. I think people who still have them up is probably because of laziness, nothing more.

StressedTired · 26/01/2021 16:02

@SecretWitch

Birch not bitch. A bitch tree might be nice, though
Love the idea of a bitch tree! 🤣
campion · 26/01/2021 16:05

Ooh I like your boat AlanThePig. Very classy. No ducks lurking in there?!

We were going to leave our tree up until Candlemas but I noticed quite a few small flies last Saturday and ...err... on closer inspection the tree was alive but it wasn't just the greeneryConfused! Cue hasty removal of lights and decorations and chucking tree into the snow. Then a forensic vacuuming session and each decoration inspected and cleaned.
Still got lots of lights around the house though which is comforting. I think they can stay up beyond next week.

Littlepaws18 · 26/01/2021 16:05

That's bonkers!!!!

Haha, no, no ducks. We're still firmly frozen over here so they have buggered off to waters anew until we defrost. Its saving me a fortune in food 😂
AnxiousSM · 26/01/2021 16:06

If it keeps you happy what does it matter to anyone else?

Fufumuji · 26/01/2021 16:07

That's bonkers!!!!

What is? And why?

QueenOfLabradors · 26/01/2021 16:08

We put some lovely soft slowly colour changing lights up along the beam in a rather dark corner. Everyone adored them. So they've been there for.... Just over three years now. Do I win the thread? Grin

Pictures please!! This sounds lovely, I'm really interested in this.
nhsblue · 26/01/2021 16:48

@Winniewonka Thank you :-)

SecretWitch · 26/01/2021 17:13

@StressedTired, I can only imagine what the decos might look like😂

cardibach · 26/01/2021 17:16

It’s not bothering anyone else, so why not? I wouldn’t like it as they take up space and irritate me after a bit. I’d just relocate the fairy lights. I have some all up stairs which aren’t Christmas lights, they’re just lights.

Sounds gorgeous! We decorated our (then new) conservatory with a very long string of about 1,000 fairy lights so DD could have her 16th birthday party in there before the floor went down. It took ages to put the lights up, but they looked lovely and so we decided to leave them right through Christmas and beyond. DD is now 23... Grin

Mixed bag of opinions here, but definitely feeling less bonkers after @AlanThePig ‘s boat, @GwendolineMarysLaces January replacement tree and @SecretWitch ‘s bitch tree 😂😂

Mine is starting to get a bit droopy so may not last till candlemass, but I am in love with @Isolatedizzy ‘s Valentine tree. In need one of those 😍

Have ordered some lovely dragonfly fairy lights which will be going up in the living room when they arrive.

Glad I’m not the only sparkle addict 🙃

Tree down, lots of fairy lights still up, have them up all year. Don't use them much March til November as lighter nights ,lovely to start putting them on when days get shorter

QueenoftheAir · 26/01/2021 21:09

Mine's staying up until Candlemas. The branches are dropping slightly, but it's otherwise still a lovely tree with about 400 fairylights, and very cheery.

(It was from B&Q - a very good buy!).

TotorosFurryBehind · 26/01/2021 21:34

{waves} me too! It's such a bloody miserable and depressing year I felt like I needed to keep it up. Feel ready to take it down this week tho, with the days getting longer.

speakout · 27/01/2021 06:43

I have a new imbolc tree in place, a set of Hazel branches, with fresh green buds and catkins, tied with coloured ribbons and fairy lights.

Haha obviously I don't win the thread after all!
QueenOfLabradors · 27/01/2021 18:14

@ssd I don't use mumsnet on my phone, only on my ancient PC - this is to help me not spend all night on it. This means I can't do photos though. The lights came from B&Q but sadly have been discontinued. We wanted to buy another couple of sets as a gift for my slightly older daughter's lovely MIL who was very taken with them when she came round for coffee back in the days when people could come round for coffee...

peaceanddove · 27/01/2021 18:30

Took the tree down on 12th night, as always, but have left the tiny, white fairy-lights along the mantle piece and on the bay tree in the kitchen. Looks really pretty and twinkly. Also have several candles lit and dotted around the house to feel cosy; DH keeps asking me if I know that electricity has been invented Hmm

Royalty2k · 27/01/2021 18:32

My next door neighbour still has her Christmas lights on outside

MerylStropp · 27/01/2021 22:42

Sounds familiar. Me: "Don't you just love a candlelit dinner?" Him: "Not really - I want to be able to see what I'm eating..." HmmGrin

rubyjoo2 · 27/01/2021 23:54

lmao me too only cos im too lazy to take it down yet ill happily walk 3 miles a day

ChestnutStuffing · 28/01/2021 00:02

It makes more sense to have it up now than it did to have it up in the first week of December, which seems to be the thing now, so I think you are ok.
