It’s just so nice to have some sparkle right now on these long cold nights.

There is some historical precedence re leaving it up till candlemass.....

Colleague thinks I’m ridiculous 😂

It is far more unreasonable to take it down before Epiphany than it is to keep it up till Candlemas

GwendolineMarysLaces · 26/01/2021 12:43

@VestaTilley

Don’t leave it up past Candlemas, OP.

Other than that, knock yourself out. We’re strict Epiphany observers for the tree and decs in this house, but in this year of all years give yourself a break.

Why not?

Mines staying up until it dies. In fact, we got a new one at the start of jan and redecorated

EternalOptimist7 · 26/01/2021 12:50

A lady at my local shop told me the other day that she’s leaving her tree up until the end of January. Personally I wouldn’t leave mine up that long but each to there own.

TheNoodlesIncident · 26/01/2021 13:49

I've taken mine down, I like to keep the sense of "specialness" and occasion about the baubles and actual tree. But I am missing the fairy lights and wish I still had some out!

DS has some on his bunk beds, round the underside of the upper bunk, so the lower bunk is lit very gently with lovely little lights. DH had had them in his office prior to first lockdown, they have since given up the office space so everything was cleared out, including their Christmas lights. I really like them, they are cheerful and pleasant for DS to wake up to in these grim dark mornings without having the glare of the overhead light. Win-win!

This coming Christmas, I'll buy some nice fairy lights that I'll secretly intend to leave out. I really loathe winter, so whatever helps....

YANBU op

Sloth66 · 26/01/2021 13:56

Took the tree down, put some nice glittery lights up. No plans to take them down, They’re staying up for now.

Iknowwhatudidlastsummer · 26/01/2021 13:57

Your house, your tree, who cares!

Mine always get taken down and chopped off the day after Boxing Day, because Christmas is over for us, but it's my house.

As long as you don't bother anyone, do whatever you like.

Tisforptarmigan · 26/01/2021 13:58

Got rid of the tree on 2nd January, but still have our wreath on the door.

I am waiting for it to die. It's lasting really well so far and seems a shame to throw it away.

Cryalot2 · 26/01/2021 14:03

If it makes you happy then it's fine. Life is too short to worry about what others think about your home.
Put your own happiness first and keep it up for as long as you want to .
I used to have a faux cherry tree which had lights round it and it looked beautiful in the evenings.

SmileyClare · 26/01/2021 14:13

I like your mantel piece lights Op Smile

Any white lights in the winter aren't Christmas decorations, no they're classy decorative lights Wink

I have some on a shelf and a string of lights in a tall glass vase in the corner.

As for keeping the tree up this long? Isn't it all dusty? I mean if you have to start dusting the baubles it's been up too long! It feels a bit like Christmas overload to me. Don't forget shops start stocking Christmas merchandise in April. At this rate you might as well keep it up.

Holothane · 26/01/2021 14:16

I need fairy lights in the bedroom

Witchend · 26/01/2021 14:25

I still have mine up. There is actually a logical reason for it.
Dh is reflooring the insulating the loft. The less stuff we have up, the easier it is for him. So it's better to have the tree still up and looking pretty than up in the loft in the way, or in a heap waiting until dh finishes in 2023 at this rate

And it will save me putting it up next year. Grin

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 26/01/2021 14:43

Whatever makes you happy, OP.

fingersdoublecrossed · 26/01/2021 15:16

My tree is still up and I'm going to try to transform it into a Valentines tree after Candlemas.
People said I'd be sick of it and set me a challenge to keep it up all year. I'm super stubborn so I think I just might! Why not?! Nothing else to do! 😂

Isolatedizzy · 26/01/2021 15:24

I turned my small twig Christmas Tree in to a Valentine's Tree! I've also put some red heart lights and bunting up outside the front of the house! 🤣

I always hate taking the Christmas Tree down but this year tipped me over the edge, everywhere was so much more cheerful with the lights & decorations up!

speakout · 26/01/2021 15:26

Do what makes you happy.

I love a good festival, already have my Imbolc decorations up.

A tree would feel out of kilter for me.

SecretWitch · 26/01/2021 15:37

Who cares what other people think?

We don’t put up a regular Christmas tree but have a pre lit “bitch” tree from Amazon. I have it on every season at night. It looks so pretty and glowy.

SecretWitch · 26/01/2021 15:38

Birch not bitch. A bitch tree might be nice, though

RaspberryCoulis · 26/01/2021 15:44

Weird.

You do know you can have lights up that aren't on a tree?

EvieBoo2 · 26/01/2021 15:45

Leave it up as long as it makes you happy. When it starts annoying you take it down. I was quite tempted to leave mine up, but I thought maybe if I leave it up too long it won't feel as special next year. You do whatever makes you happy.

WorriedMillie · 26/01/2021 15:50

Not would I’d choose to do, as I’m always fed up of ours by Boxing Day Grin but if it helps to cheer you up, there’s no harm. I do like fairy lights though, so maybe I should have left some lights up

Some houses in our village have left their Christmas lights outside and they make me smile

Anne1958 · 26/01/2021 15:52

OP, just do whatever makes you and yours happy.

AlanThePig · 26/01/2021 15:53

I have a boat outside on the front and the christmas lights will remain on it until at least when the clocks go forward.
I've also got a lovely fishbowl full of rice lights in the window which I kept as they are warming I think.

To still have my Christmas tree up?
Fufumuji · 26/01/2021 15:56

Bonkers! But a few houses, inc my neighbours still have theirs up. You could buy an indoor tree and put lights up

What do you think the Xmas tree is, if its not an indoor tree with lights on it?

I'm with you OP, ours is still up. Both of them in fact. The children asked not to take it down yet and since there is little enough I can do to make them happy these days it seemed like the least I could do.

Areyouboredyet · 26/01/2021 16:00

My DH bought a horrible little tree before Christmas which has little LED lights on it. He then bought another one. I'm not keen but it's cheered him up a bit and he really likes them so I'll put up with them till he gets fed up or they die

StressedTired · 26/01/2021 16:00

My tree and decorations are still up too! I took the santa things down but everything else still there. I enjoy looking at it all so why not.
