To think... take your Christmas decorations down?

Some of my neighbours still have wreaths on their doors. Surely their decorations should come down now?

Any of you still got yours up?

Surely they can decide when to take their own decorations down?

DottyWott · 12/01/2021 08:47

Maybe they have more going on their lives? My wreath is still up but I have some actual real shit to worry about instead.

MiddleOfThePack · 12/01/2021 08:48

Yes! Xmas decs all down, apart from fire lights across porch & I have a seasonal wreath all year round since lockdown. The current one is white and silver with fairy lights.

Lots of neighbours have kept some lights up outside. Otherwise its just dull damp and depressing and we all need some joy.

MiddleOfThePack · 12/01/2021 08:49

...fire...? ...fairy...!

Sparklingbrook · 12/01/2021 08:49

There was some talk about leaving them up as everything's shit at the moment because of CV and they are cheerful to look at.

contrmary · 12/01/2021 08:49

YANBU, there's someone in the block of flats opposite me who still has their tree up for flip's sake! Christmas is over!

CheshireDing · 12/01/2021 08:50

Are you my neighbour OP!?

Our door wreath is still up but everything else gone. I want to take the Christmas bird off and leave up but work/schooling I keep forgetting/don’t give a shit this year

Marzipan12 · 12/01/2021 08:50

There's no should about it. It's completely up to individuals when they take them down. It could be keeping their spirits up. It's really none of your business

SprogletsMum · 12/01/2021 08:51

I've taken down all my decorations except for the lights on my front window. They're off but because they're outside and it's cold I've not sorted them yet.

Chemenger · 12/01/2021 08:51

Some people keep decorations up until Candlemas rather than twelfth night, I believe.

Angel2702 · 12/01/2021 08:52

A lot of people are leaving their up until Candlemas this year.

Iheartsheep · 12/01/2021 08:52

I still have a tree in a pot outside my house. No decorations anymore. The reason being our council offer free collection and can't come until wc 21st Jan. I thought a tree in a pot looked nicer than it thrown on the lawn

LegoPirateMonkey · 12/01/2021 08:53

Well we had covid and couldn’t physically go outside to take them down due to being extremely ill. Still recovering and not ready to go up a ladder to take the lights down thanks.

Tenyearsgone · 12/01/2021 08:55

There must be someone you can report them to.

ForeverBubblegum · 12/01/2021 08:55

My tree's still up, I was waiting for DS to start back at nursery so I could pack it away without "help". His nursery (attached to a school) is now closed for the foreseeable, and I've just not got round to it. It's not doing any harm or affecting anyone else, why would you care?

wowfudge · 12/01/2021 08:55

If they're anything like my neighbours they never see the front door from outside so have forgotten. But, not my circus, not my monkeys.

Drinkarsefeck · 12/01/2021 08:58

Mine are all down, if they were up for too long I think I would just associate them with coronavirus and a rubbish year. I'm hoping to be able to put them up without the taint of covid by christmas this year.

Fizbosshoes · 12/01/2021 08:58

I'm keeping outside fairy lights out for the winter to (try to) make things very slightly les depressing this year. Christmas tree and cards all down from inside though - not that it affects anyone else since no except immediate family is allowed in the house.

Scrunchy95 · 12/01/2021 08:58

You don't know what is going on in their life right now. Seriously, if your big concern of the day is that someone hasn't taken down their Christmas decorations then take a look at yourself.

RaspberryCoulis · 12/01/2021 09:00

Agree - but some people appear to be doing it longer this year because of Covid. Probably the same people who put their trees up the day after Halloween.

Was out with DD last night and spotted a few, she made a comment about there being nothing more depressing than Christmas decs when it's not Christmas, and she's right.

Rather than looking back to Christmas which has been and gone, we should be looking forward to the brighter and lighter days of spring and summer.

Heronwatcher · 12/01/2021 09:00

DON’T THEY KNOW WE’RE IN LOCKDOWN and it’s apparently obligatory to be utterly miserable and hide in a cupboard all day. Why does this bother you? My kids love seeing the lights, and anything which causes a bit of joy should be welcomed. And as others have said many traditionalists think that Christmas doesn’t end until Candlemas.

Hollybutnoivy · 12/01/2021 09:00

We still have our tree up. Grin Normally we take it down on 6 Jan but this year I got outvoted. (We have 3 people in this household with January birthdays and none of them are getting a party obviously so leaving the tree up was a compromise).

Chemenger · 12/01/2021 09:00

In the US a lot of people keep Halloween outdoor decorations up until thanksgiving, thanksgiving up until Christmas, Christmas up until Easter, Easter up until July 4th. Go to beacon hill in Boston and you’ll see decorated doors every day of the year. It brightens the streets up.

Chemenger · 12/01/2021 09:02

How is a Christmas tree depressing at any time? Some people just enjoy being miserable and think everyone else should be too.

Jobsharenightmare · 12/01/2021 09:02

My uncle is in hospital and has been since the second week of December so they're keeping the decs up in the hope to be able to celebrate his survival over a belated Christmas.

I think people have more important things on to be honest.
