To think... take your Christmas decorations down?

Some of my neighbours still have wreaths on their doors. Surely their decorations should come down now?

Any of you still got yours up?

@Notnt

We took most of ours down on the 27th, everything but the tree and some tinsel, which we kept up for new year before taking them down as well. As a pp said, Christmas decorations this long after Christmas are a bit depressing, apart from the (non-Christmas specific) string lights outside, don't see why they couldn't be kept up all year.
I agree, I also find it depressing

Our wreath is still up because they ballsed up delivery so we didn't get it until Christmas Eve. I wanted more than 12 days of it!

Everything else came down on the 5th and I'm missing my nice little lights.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 12/01/2021 09:29

Was out with DD last night and spotted a few, she made a comment about there being nothing more depressing than Christmas decs when it's not Christmas, and she's right.

Christ, she must have a charmed life.

Hollyoakswatcher · 12/01/2021 09:31

Still got all my decs up, just haven’t bothered taking them down, seeing some of these posts especially the one about the DD making comments, makes me really sad that we bring up our children at a young age to already make judgey comments about what people have in their own houses.

Lucieintheskye · 12/01/2021 09:31

We kept up the christmas lights on the front of the house (Warm white string lights, not garish blow up santas) and we have a wintery wreath on the door. Some of us get SAD and don't 'look forward to the brighter and lighter days of spring and summer.' Envy (not envy Grin )

topspeed · 12/01/2021 09:31

@hennybeans

My wreath is still up because it's got lots of real berries on it and the birds have discovered it. I'm enjoying watching them have a winter snack. The berries are half gone now so I might take it down and stick it in the hedges for a while longer.
That's lovely!

We only took ours down at the weekend. I can't get myself worked up about seeing a couple of Christmas wreaths in January tbh. No more than I can seeing them in November.

AuntyFungal · 12/01/2021 09:34

Your neighbours might be orthodox (Greek, Russian, Coptic, Ethiopian etc...) Christians. Their Christmas Day was 7th Jan this year.

Or perhaps just stretching out a bit of twinkly cheer.

canigooutyet · 12/01/2021 09:35

I have strip lighting up all year round. People assume it’s Christmas lights from the outside. One of mine likes the slow colour change setting similar to Christmas lights

If people don’t like it, tough shit. Get a life and stop paying so much attention to your neighbours

BiddyPop · 12/01/2021 09:37

We have taken down the inside decorations, but still have lights up outside. Whatever about a normal year, this year is so difficult and it is the darkest, gloomiest part of the year, that having your decorations up a bit longer may well be helping some people to just get through the shit show that we are currently living through.

Or they may be so busy trying to juggle WFH, homeschooling, providing for their family (shopping etc) in a pandemic, that frankly, taking down the Christmas decorations is well down their list of priorities. Even if all are well in their household - if they or anyone in their household/immediate circle are actually sick, it's probably not even on any priority list right now.

Fizbosshoes · 12/01/2021 09:38

Apparently some pps reasons are ok for leaving decs out so maybe everyone should put up a written reason next to their decs or lights for others to judge if its valid or not....?HmmGrin

Winterwoollies · 12/01/2021 09:39

I’ve got my outside lights up. They’re very pretty and I like them. And they shall stay all the time I am miserable in this pandemic.

So nerr.

@Angel2702

A lot of people are leaving their up until Candlemas this year.
I’ve never heard of this, but I love the thought of keeping lights etc up until Feb! Yay!
Thiscantreallybehappening · 12/01/2021 09:40

I wouldn't normally respond to this but all mine are all still up. Usually, I take everything down before new years eve but I have got major problems and it really is just a case of not having the time. I actually planned to do it yesterday but my whole day was derailed and I didn't get to bed until 2 am. Would you have liked me to stay up then op and do it?
For your information, I am having a coffee and taking them down now.

Honestly, I think people need to stop judging and mind their own business. Behind front doors people are dealing with a lot of crap.

Changi · 12/01/2021 09:40

Your neighbours might be orthodox Christians

Have a look in your bog standard local Anglican Church.

You might be surprised at what is still up in there.

Dannydevitoiloveyourart · 12/01/2021 09:43

Well my 4 year old was in hospital for over a week from New Year’s Day until this weekend. He really got upset at the idea that all the Christmas decorations would be down when he got home so we left them up for him and still have them up to give him some cheer while he’s adjusting to his chronic illness. I hope that’s ok with you and the other Christmas decorations police?

LickEmbysmiling · 12/01/2021 09:43

Goodness op - why on earth does it matter to you!
Personally we are still the full, glorious flow of xmas decs and I am loving it - just wish we had had some snow!

I am definitely not ready to take them down yet and the tree is looking remarkably good.

Speedyspunker · 12/01/2021 09:44

Leaving everything up until Candlemas. It makes the place look more cheerful, so where's the harm? If we'd had them up since the beginning of November I might feel differently but they didn't go up until mid-December. I'm still baking mince pies too - shoot me!

Dannydevitoiloveyourart · 12/01/2021 09:44

Oh and the children’s ward is still all decked out for Christmas and gave every new child on the ward a wrapped present (which my child loved). I hope that’s not too tacky for your standards?

LickEmbysmiling · 12/01/2021 09:45

I've never been dictated too by dates per se - obviously we are by 25th December we take them down when we are ready. One year - that happened to be just before Valentines day.

PrawnofthePatriarchy · 12/01/2021 09:46

Normally I keep mine up until the end of January and throw an all night party to cheer all my mates up. Then the decs come down. I love Christmas, I hate January and I'm not superstitious.

Thiscantreallybehappening · 12/01/2021 09:47

Was out with DD last night and spotted a few, she made a comment about there being nothing more depressing than Christmas decs when it's not Christmas, and she's right.

I dread to think how your DD will cope with life if someone leaving a few christmas decs up pushes her into depression. Talk about out of touch and patronising Angry

NavyBerry · 12/01/2021 09:48

Our tree will be up until 2 Feb - conclusion of the Christmas season. Hope you don't mind OP

mistletoeandsigh · 12/01/2021 09:48

Yeah, I had two trees up for Christmas and one is up because I'm recovering from Covid. It's annoying me seeing my tree up and I will deal with it on my next "good" day.
