To think... take your Christmas decorations down?

Some of my neighbours still have wreaths on their doors. Surely their decorations should come down now?

Any of you still got yours up?

Oh and a vase of holly and berries.

WTF0ver · 12/01/2021 10:36

I still have my tree up in the house. It still looks and smells good. Only got it a few days before Christmas so I'm getting my money's worth!

RileyG73 · 12/01/2021 10:36

Ours were left up later than everyone else.
We're very busy at work full time and overtime and raising kids, walking dog. Etc etc etc. Just keeping ourselves and the country afloat.
Sorry, not sorry.
Get a life

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 12/01/2021 10:36

I could only get worked up if they were those blue flashing lights, since I hate those anyway.

Hollyoakswatcher · 12/01/2021 10:38

Also I’m finding this thread quite interesting on the basis that with all these restrictions, I’ve seen many a post about how it’s stupid to just blindly believe everything that we’re told about COVID, we shouldn’t have these restrictions blah blah, yet someone tells you you have to take Xmas decs down by a certain date and suddenly that must be religiously followed or else 😂😂.

PuffinShop · 12/01/2021 10:39

I think the lights outside are fine, anyway. Where I live it's very dark in the winters and people tend to have 'winter lights' rather than Christmas lights outside that stay up all through the dark months. It's pretty.

I do agree about explicitly Christmas stuff, but people can do what they like.

onemorecupofcoffeefortheroad · 12/01/2021 10:40

YANBU - there was some post on our local FB page by two women walkers suggesting we should all leave our lights up to make January less depressing as they enjoyed seeing them on their walks.
Personally I find it more depressing seeing Xmas lights still up in January and I absolutely love Christmas lights but they just look sad and tired.

LegendDairy · 12/01/2021 10:41

My wreath is not a Christmas decoration. I make several throughout the year and change them with the season and seeing as its still midwinter its staying up until spring. Lights stay up all year round too but they're indoors or in my garden which you can't see from the street.

Buddytheelf85 · 12/01/2021 10:42

God, that’s outrageous! I can’t think of any possible reason why they might a) want to keep their Christmas lights up or b) might have forgotten. Wracking my brains but coming up with nothing.

KisstheTeapot14 · 12/01/2021 10:43

@Tenyearsgone I believe Father Christmas has a special Department with inspector elves for this kind of thing.

They won't take kindly to this kind of flouting of the seasonal rules.

If those with decs still up hear a distant jingling sound like small bells on the end of shoes and the snap of a clipboard they should be afraid. Very afraid.

topspeed · 12/01/2021 10:44

@SunshineCake

How on Earth is it affecting your life. Gods sake.
It's not affecting my life at all. 😂 I asked a question and have had some very interesting and insightful answers on a subject I didn't know much about. It's a learning experience of which I'm grateful.

@tenyearsgone even if the person with lights still on and cards up is Dominic Cummings. The Elves Make No Exceptions.

Polyethyl · 12/01/2021 10:47

We left our tree up until Candlemass last year.
My husband vowed never again. (He likes neat and tidy.) The poor tree looked so sad and droopy and needle-less by Feb. My husband waved us off to church for Candlemass Evensong and immediately stripped the tree, took down all the cards swept every needle. I came home to a surgically clean living room.

IntermittentParps · 12/01/2021 10:48

My neighbourhood church has a light display in the churchyard that's up until Candlemas. People need all the cheering up we can get.

I don't do decs at home, but I do have fairy lights that are used all year round. Again, it cheers up a winter day, and looks nice whatever the weather.

Calmandmeasured1 · 12/01/2021 10:50

I took my down on 12th night but on Sunday I saw quite a few homes with outside lights still on, lights on shrubs and one with s Christmas tree up. I presume they just want to cheer themselves up.

TurquoiseDragon · 12/01/2021 10:53

We only packed our tree away yesterday. It hasn't hurt anyone by having it up, and as the resulting house looks a little sad, I've ordered some non-Christmassy fairy lights to decorate the house and add a little cheer when we want.

Lillygolightly · 12/01/2021 10:54

My decorations usually come down on the 5th Jan if not earlier, this year they didn’t come down until a couple of days ago. The only reason we were later this year was because we are decorating the house and so had mess from that, plus we’ve also been building some shelves in our loft to make extra space. Building the shelves into the loft has meant taking everything down from the loft to have the space to do it, so the house has been a complete tip. Was very pleased to get the tree and decorations up onto the loft yesterday.

bobbojobbo · 12/01/2021 10:55

Was out with DD last night and spotted a few, she made a comment about there being nothing more depressing than Christmas decs when it's not Christmas, and she's right

Then luckily for you, your DD has no concept of what is actually depressing. Cos its not a fucking wreath on someones door on the 12th January.

glassacorn · 12/01/2021 11:01

We kept ours up to cheer up. If it's not harming you, it is unreasonable. 😅
Do you knock on neighbour's doors to tell them you don't like their interior design style too? 😆

MereDintofPandiculation · 12/01/2021 11:03

My tree is still up. Usually I leave the decorations until after an early-Jan family birthday, this year I'm not in such a hurry. But reading some of these comments I'm tempted to keep them up until such time as I am able to celebrate a belated Christmas with my family.

BlackeyedSusan · 12/01/2021 11:03

I still have my christmas tree up, it makes me happy.

glassacorn · 12/01/2021 11:03

@Hollybutnoivy

We still have our tree up. Grin Normally we take it down on 6 Jan but this year I got outvoted. (We have 3 people in this household with January birthdays and none of them are getting a party obviously so leaving the tree up was a compromise).
That's lovely! I hope they all have a jolly birthday - despite the lockdown. Still, definitely birthdays they'll remember! 😅
BlackeyedSusan · 12/01/2021 11:04

They say it is unlucky to leave it up past the 6th of January, I did last year, and nothing untoward happened in 2020 at all. Confused

dottiedodah · 12/01/2021 11:04

We have taken down our Christmas Tree on 12th night .However we still have our fairy lights and tinsel on the stairs ,in the lounge and in the kitchen! Seems to brighten up the days .January is such a dark month anyway and have done the same for a few years now anyway .

glassacorn · 12/01/2021 11:04

@BarbaraofSeville Wow! That's lovely! I wish more of our village kept their lights up/on as there were some super displays this year.
