To think... take your Christmas decorations down?

Some of my neighbours still have wreaths on their doors. Surely their decorations should come down now?

Any of you still got yours up?

I'm with you OP, Christmas decs come down on boxing day in my house 😊

Palavah · 12/01/2021 09:03

I sti have my tree up. I wouldn't normally, but this year.....

No different from the people who had theirs up in the middle of November.

Sparklingbrook · 12/01/2021 09:04

I think a Christmas tree after Christmas can be depressing if it's looking a bit sad/dead and droopy and the decorations are hanging on the floor or something.

Chasingsquirrels · 12/01/2021 09:04

My outside lights are up because I never take them down. I have turned them off.

My door wreath is still up, because I'm working from home, so don't come home and see it every day, so it isn't on my mind. I did think yesterday that I must take it down.

Palavah · 12/01/2021 09:04

Was out with DD last night and spotted a few, she made a comment about there being nothing more depressing than Christmas decs when it's not Christmas, and she's right.

Oh do get a grip

BarbaraofSeville · 12/01/2021 09:06

Isn't there a campaign this year to leave them up for longer (until the end of January?) to brighten dark days and miserable times?

I haven't noticed any wreaths but haven't been looking that closely, but lots of people still have external house/garden lights and there's multicoloured strings of lights still up in the trees on the main road through my village, looks lovely, I'm happy for them to stay.

To think... take your Christmas decorations down?
HunkyPunk · 12/01/2021 09:06

Our door wreath is still up but everything else gone. I want to take the Christmas bird off and leave up

Just interested in what the Christmas bird is.......robin, turkey? Grin

MissDollyMix · 12/01/2021 09:07

I’ve taken my decorations down but left my outside lights up. I’ve rechristened them winter lights and they make me happy. So they’re staying. I walked around my village last night and noticed quite a few houses still have ‘winter lights’ up. I thought they looked nice. Personally wouldn’t be against keeping fairy lights up for the duration of winter. January can be so dark and depressing.

Changi · 12/01/2021 09:11

YANBU, there's someone in the block of flats opposite me who still has their tree up for flip's sake! Christmas is over!

Ours is still up. It's still perky.

It will stay up until Candlemas.

Notnt · 12/01/2021 09:13

We took most of ours down on the 27th, everything but the tree and some tinsel, which we kept up for new year before taking them down as well.
As a pp said, Christmas decorations this long after Christmas are a bit depressing, apart from the (non-Christmas specific) string lights outside, don't see why they couldn't be kept up all year.

PattyPan · 12/01/2021 09:13

Mine are down but I almost forgot about the wreath due to never going outside and seeing the other side of my front door!

WhatAreWordsWorth · 12/01/2021 09:13

There are a few fairy lights and wreaths still up round here which is quite nice on the dark winter nights.

Must admit though, we were on a walk at the weekend and saw a tree still up. Each to their own, but I just couldn’t imagine still having my tree up on 10th Jan.

Icanseegreenshoots · 12/01/2021 09:14

I have taken down my decorations, but still have fairy lights in the garden to brighten the winter gloom and wreath with ivy only (it is not christmassy) I miss our tree and wish I had left it up!

FellowFlipFlop · 12/01/2021 09:14

Mine are up because I can't be arsed to take them down

AndcalloffChristmas · 12/01/2021 09:16

I must admit I have quite a strong internal reaction to seeing Christmas decs in January. But that’s my business and they can do as they like of course.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 12/01/2021 09:20

I still have warm white fairy lights in a huge houseplant - more like a tree - in our bay window. They look lovely and I’m leaving them up until all the daffodils are out. At least.
So there.

TeenPlusTwenties · 12/01/2021 09:21

Our wreath is still up, because it is a bit fiddly to remove and as I am barely coping with life right now it somehow hasn't been a priority. Everything else is down except some tinsel DD wanted to stay up.

SwedishK · 12/01/2021 09:22

I live in the UK but am Swedish and we always keep our decorations up until January 13th and then we "dance Christmas out". So I will keep my outside lights up one more day. Hopefully it's not too offensive to anyone.

topspeed · 12/01/2021 09:24

@RaspberryCoulis

Agree - but some people appear to be doing it longer this year because of Covid. Probably the same people who put their trees up the day after Halloween.

Was out with DD last night and spotted a few, she made a comment about there being nothing more depressing than Christmas decs when it's not Christmas, and she's right.

Rather than looking back to Christmas which has been and gone, we should be looking forward to the brighter and lighter days of spring and summer.

Oh I completely agree Smile

Fizbosshoes · 12/01/2021 09:24

We have a covered area in our back garden with fairy lights round it and they're up all year round, but we only turn them a few times a year.

Fizbosshoes · 12/01/2021 09:26

I'm also looking forward to the brighter and lighter days of spring but they feel a really long way away.....so I'm keeping my lights on a bit longer.

hennybeans · 12/01/2021 09:26

My wreath is still up because it's got lots of real berries on it and the birds have discovered it. I'm enjoying watching them have a winter snack. The berries are half gone now so I might take it down and stick it in the hedges for a while longer.

topspeed · 12/01/2021 09:26

@Scrunchy95

You don't know what is going on in their life right now. Seriously, if your big concern of the day is that someone hasn't taken down their Christmas decorations then take a look at yourself.
Fair point, but the neighbours opposite me, who still have their wreath up, are out everyday as a family walking the dog. They even have work men in and out of the house all day as they are building an extension. I don't get it!

@Heronwatcher

DON’T THEY KNOW WE’RE IN LOCKDOWN and it’s apparently obligatory to be utterly miserable and hide in a cupboard all day. Why does this bother you? My kids love seeing the lights, and anything which causes a bit of joy should be welcomed. And as others have said many traditionalists think that Christmas doesn’t end until Candlemas.
Haven't actually seen any lights let up in my area, just wreaths. Wonder why?

topspeed · 12/01/2021 09:27

@Jobsharenightmare

My uncle is in hospital and has been since the second week of December so they're keeping the decs up in the hope to be able to celebrate his survival over a belated Christmas.

I think people have more important things on to be honest.

Completely understandable
