To want to go to Markies for picky bits

Agirlnamedsam · 09/01/2021 14:15

I’ve not been in a shop since the beginning of December. Been wfh and only been out to go to the park with DS or go for a walk.

We have been using Tesco click and collect, but I want to go to Markies and get some picky bits / afternoon tea for lunch tomorrow.

DH thinks I’m being a bit silly as it’s not necessary travel: and that we should be avoiding shops. He’s happy for us to get something delivered or to collect something. But I’m just a bit fed up and want to go and select some nice bits and pieces.

Cor mumsnet is full of utter cunts today

Crack on with your trip to Markses OP and enjoy the nibbles. Ignore the twats - they'll be ironing their hair shirts

GreenWheat · 09/01/2021 14:35

I thought this was going to be a thread about irritating phrases 😂. I was expecting the OP to mention the number of sleeps until holibobs with the famalam!

TwirlingTwizzler · 09/01/2021 14:35

I'm not being an arsehole, I have never heard it being called Markies. Itnought maybe it was a regional shopping chain.

I too want to know what tommy k is?

HouseofBrieandBanter · 09/01/2021 14:35

Oh wow, MN vipers in full viper mode!

I always think I fancy M&S stuff but when I am there the high prices (and tiny pots) make me change my mind Grin

EmmaWithTheGreatHair · 09/01/2021 14:35

I bought my Mum’s dog a toy for Christmas and the label read Barks and Spencer Grin

I really don’t understand some of the outrage on here! Confused

Somebodyotherthanme · 09/01/2021 14:36

Ketchup, Oh never heard that.

Go and get food if you want to OP.

Most of the hypocrites on here will have spent time with family over Christmas because it was “allowed”

You need the food so go any get it.

hamsterchump · 09/01/2021 14:36

I would but mention that you're doing anything other than rending your garments and wailing on here, while maintaining a properly time-stamped notebook of all your neighbours movements despite the shaking and crying and your cheese tea going cold and you'll get raked over the coals so beware OP!

WankPuffins · 09/01/2021 14:36

I'm not being mean, i promise!

I love M&S bits.

HappyDogHappyMe · 09/01/2021 14:37

In Northern Ireland its Marksies. And fuck it OP hit the shop if you want.
It's one of little pleasures actualy allowed these days and all the joy suckers on here have clearly never had the January blues in a global pandemic!

FirewomanSam · 09/01/2021 14:37

In the real world? Yes of course you can go to the shops to get some food, this is both perfectly reasonable and allowed by all the laws and guidance.

In Mumsnet world? No, if you have a dusty tin of peaches from 2007 and a half open packet of spaghetti in the back of the cupboard then you are not allowed to go out to buy food, you should eat those instead because you have food already so your shopping isn’t ‘essential’.

Mask up, go get your ‘picky bits’, OP, and in future don’t ask strangers on the internet for permission to do things.

SacreBleeeurgh · 09/01/2021 14:37

@TramaDollface @worried890 agreed - Markies is totally normal in NE Scotland.

Pcky bts (the boke is so strong I can’t even type it) is an absolute abomination.

HouseofBrieandBanter · 09/01/2021 14:37

Yes, you should be at home shaking and sobbing like a decent person

PoptartPoptart · 09/01/2021 14:37

You have had your shopping delivered so you have food.
YABU to then go out and get more.
Either get your shopping delivered and be happy with what you’ve ordered OR go to the shops in person so you can pick and choose nicer things.
You’ve taken up a delivery slot (that perhaps someone else wanted but couldn’t get) and now you will go out unnecessarily just because you ‘fancy’ some picky bits.
It’s quite selfish really. Just choose one or the other - either have a delivery so you don’t have to go out or let someone else have that slot (so they don’t have to go out) and physically go to the shops yourself.
It’s a pandemic. You have food. What part of ‘essential travel only’ and ‘stay at home’ do you not understand!?

MajorMujer · 09/01/2021 14:37

S/E centric mocking of a posters vocabulary. Nice Hmm

Don't care about the question, but "Markies" name was totally universal in Aberdeen in the 80s - definitely not a class issue.

Why is it so hard for some people to believe that their personal experience or use of English isn't universal? Yes, it's probably irredeemably twee if you're in some places but in other places it's casual/mildly disrespectful.

elfycat · 09/01/2021 14:38

I think as long as you pick up 'essential' items too you'll be OK. You know... milk, apples, a bottle of prosecco.

Now I want to go to - we call it Marks and Sparks - and get some naice things to eat. Adsa have warned me my delivery later is going to be heavily substituted & with some items completely missing (honestly which one of you ordered ALL the sour cream?) and a buffet of M&S things I didn't have to fucking cook for once delights would make my day.

YANBU. And I quite like the term picky bits. It's a good descriptor.

notinthiseconomy · 09/01/2021 14:38

I've always hated Maccies for McDonald's but Markies for Marks and Spencer is even worse!

Everleigh2021 · 09/01/2021 14:38

op does not 'need the food' she said she had a tesco click and collect order already

why not adjust your tesco order next time to include 'picky bits' whatever the fuck they are?

Inastatus · 09/01/2021 14:39

@ReinventingTheSpiel - totally agree. Why do people have to be so fucking horrible!

Butchyrestingface · 09/01/2021 14:39

DH thinks I’m being a bit silly as it’s not necessary travel: and that we should be avoiding shops.

Since when was buying FOOD considered unnecessary travel? You're obviously not going every day.

Go to MARKIES! (There, I said it!) #NotDead

PlonkyPlink · 09/01/2021 14:39

I’m from North East Scotland. It’s not “gross vocabulary” it what we call Marks and Spencer’s. Go OP. Ignore the rude wankers on here today.

ilovesooty · 09/01/2021 14:39

@cantsleepwontsleep1

Jeez there are some horrid people on here todayConfused

Of course you can go, it will be good for your mental health too, having a bit of normality like going to the shop, especially as you haven't been for over a month. As long as you wear a mask you're fine.

Mental health? Hmm

Ffs.
