To want to go to Markies for picky bits

I’ve not been in a shop since the beginning of December. Been wfh and only been out to go to the park with DS or go for a walk.

We have been using Tesco click and collect, but I want to go to Markies and get some picky bits / afternoon tea for lunch tomorrow.

DH thinks I’m being a bit silly as it’s not necessary travel: and that we should be avoiding shops. He’s happy for us to get something delivered or to collect something. But I’m just a bit fed up and want to go and select some nice bits and pieces.

God the snowflakes on this thread! Imagine being so very sensitive that you get offended by a WORD.

Pathetic.

Ooh, looks like you’re not feeling well. Hope you fell better soon.

A while ago when rules weren't as strict, I got a click and collect from asda and was passing M&S and fancied some of their amazing eclairs. I can't wear a mask for long, maybe 15 mins or I'll have a panic attack. No problem, I'm only nipping in.

For some reason it took me ages to find the eclairs, getting more stressed, I had to ask a staff member. I'd literally just missed them. Of course when I got there (front of an aisle) there were two people blocking it and really really faffing around about what chilled dessert they wanted. I stood back but I was getting more and more twitchy. I did say excuse me but they didn't hear/ignored me. I nearly gave up and the poor (lovely) staff member took pity on me and gave me some... From his crate as he was waiting for the faffers to move too so he could stack the shelf Grin

Highly stressful but only Markies eclairs will do, and were worth the stress.

Picky.

Bits.

To want to go to Markies for picky bits
Covine · 11/01/2021 00:56

"Picky bits" isn't regional.

Apart from the region of HELL.

zukiecat · 11/01/2021 02:01

@worried890

I'm in NE Scotland too and have always called it Markies!

Pretty much everyone that I know calls it Markies too.

lovelemoncurd · 11/01/2021 02:07

I did that yesterday. Its food. You can buy it!

Agirlnamedsam · 11/01/2021 09:38

@Covine Grin. At least your cheek is original and not “oh you sound about 5”, like some of the others on here who are reminding me of bratty wee primary school bullies

I call Sainsbury's Sainsbos and Tesco Teggie's. Not regional I'm just a bit of a dick like that Grin

Wanderlust20 · 11/01/2021 20:03

Oh give over people, you're allowed to go to the shops for food! I've not read the whole thread but if the Marks is in the OPs local area, I don't see what the issue is?!

malificent7 · 11/01/2021 20:05

There was a thread with " picky bits" on it before xmas.

Wanderlust20 · 11/01/2021 20:09

And yes, I'm from Glasgow, knew exactly what you mean when you said Markies @agirlnamedsam! I wouldn't slag you for saying picky bits, I also knew exactly what you meant by that (you just wanted a wee "something something" as my family and I would say!). Please go and enjoy getting out the house xxx

It’s just a bit working class 🤨
Onesipmore · 11/01/2021 22:32

@PartoftheProbl3m Who actually gives a flying fuck what class it is, if it's even in a class. Maybe RTFT?

Agirlnamedsam · 11/01/2021 22:47

@PartoftheProbl3m yip, I am working class. But I wouldn’t say “picky bits” is a working class phrase. Not sure why mn users hate it so much: but not my problem

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 11/01/2021 23:36

Sounds a bit working class.

Have you heard yourself, you raging arsehole?!

JanuaryJonez · 11/01/2021 23:42

In the South East we call it M&S and yes it's my saviour currently.

There is a big retail park about 20 minutes drive from us with a huge Tesco's and an M&S. M&S is allowed to open fully currently, with all their clothes and home wares/lifestyle stuff, because you have to walk through it to get to either their food hall or their bank.

For me and my DD it feels like going to Harrods right now!

Joiningthegossip · 11/01/2021 23:53

Go for it, it's open and food is essential.. so you aren't doing anything wrong and enjoy!!

OP I don't quite get why your getting so much grief, some people are pretty rude on here.

giggly · 12/01/2021 00:00

Who has enough time in their day to say Marks and Spencer’s Hmm
I’m away to Markies for bits and bobs in my strongest Glaswegian accent.

JanuaryJonez · 12/01/2021 00:24

M&S being open and a lovely artisan coffee place still doing take-aways on our seafront is keeping me and most of my friends sane for the next three months!

M&S, takeaway (artisan) coffee shops, meeting friends AND seafronts all in one post...🤭😅
