To want to go to Markies for picky bits

I’ve not been in a shop since the beginning of December. Been wfh and only been out to go to the park with DS or go for a walk.

We have been using Tesco click and collect, but I want to go to Markies and get some picky bits / afternoon tea for lunch tomorrow.

DH thinks I’m being a bit silly as it’s not necessary travel: and that we should be avoiding shops. He’s happy for us to get something delivered or to collect something. But I’m just a bit fed up and want to go and select some nice bits and pieces.

I know who the people on this thread that I would go on a night out with....
We could get some picky bits from Markies, and sit union union square, (not today mind, it’s fucking Baltic) maybe a wee bottle of fizz too. And laugh at the up their own arse mnetters on here! 😂😂😂

Trickyboy · 10/01/2021 19:20

@ReinventingTheSpiel

Cor mumsnet is full of utter cunts today

Crack on with your trip to Markses OP and enjoy the nibbles. Ignore the twats - they'll be ironing their hair shirts

Yeah 'utter cunts' who think 80,000+ deaths are more than enough.

Yeah why not go for 'picky bits' obviously essential 🤔

Why is it that people are so fucking thick they can't work out that just because ' you can' doesn't mean 'you should' .

HuckfromScandal · 10/01/2021 19:38

@Markies, yes we can, I have to get on the last train back to Perth, I’ll make sure you get a chipper, if you make sure I’m on the train.
😂😂😂😂😂😂

I'd take a punt that this thread is a wind up because:

A. It's Marksies

B. Picky Bits is an annoying term used by twats including my mother who used it in a remote part of Indonesia to a waiter who didn't speak English.

C. See what Trickyboy said.

ZenNudist · 10/01/2021 19:51

I just saw the vitriol you invited by this thread. Crazy times. I'm north west and I knew perfectly well what your title meant and saw no reason not to do it. Food shopping is allowed.

Sent dh to markies for whatever food he fancied today. I'm not able to shop in the week as usual due to home school as well as work and if he's shopping and cooking we will end up with convenience food. M&s is the only place I like convenience food from.

So we now too have a collection of picky bits I wouldn't normally buy. He got some marinaded squid rings which were surprisingly nice heated through. We had chilli beef nachos and tandoori chicken legs for tea whilst the dc had pizza.

Enjoy your picky bits.

If you had actually bothered to read any of this thread, you would have realised that it’s the common name for Marks & Spencer in Scotland. 💁🏻‍♀️
ZenNudist · 10/01/2021 19:54

Actually I take it back, they should ban production of picnic eggs and potato salad for the duration of the pandemic.

BlackDogBlues · 10/01/2021 19:57

My SIster in law calls it Markies, she lived in scot,and for years and is from south east England.

Goodbye2020Hello2021 · 10/01/2021 20:01

It's Marksies
You are correct!

I call it Markies...and I also love a dinner consisting of picky bits Grin especially with Markies' Christmas selection.
MN is hilarious sometimes, people get so mad.

TJ17 · 10/01/2021 21:35

@HuckfromScandal I'm there 🙏🏼🤗

MrsAmaretto · 10/01/2021 21:40

Wowser - that deteriorated.

Dare I mention 2nd Referendum and Independence? 😂 Then M&S could rebrand as Marksies since that’s what we all call it 🤷‍♀️

OP I hope you did go and get yourself some nice "picky bits" as a treat for all the hammering you've received on here! You enjoy your snacks and ignore the horrible comments on here.

MrsAmaretto · 10/01/2021 21:42

Lol I mean Markies - I think I might have had too much of the prosecco and salted caramel chocolates I was sent as a gift box from that fine shop tonight 😂😂

PrivateHall · 10/01/2021 21:57

OP I went to Markies for picky-bits the other day and....... dare I admit it..... got DC a Percy Pig birthday cake Shock

I gave DC covid as an early birthday present a while ago, thanks to me catching it from a patient, so figured it would be nice to give them a nice picky-bit dinner and birthday cake to make up for it.

Shoot me now.

CharlotteRose90 · 10/01/2021 21:58

Who the hell would call marks and Spencer’s markies 🤣🤣🤣. Wow

Furries · 10/01/2021 22:02
@WeAreHalfWayThere. You’ve not rtft? Well, the time to slag off the wording has passed; it’s been agreed that these are perfectly fine phrases to use in many (not all) parts of Scotland. We are now in the part of the thread where I call out any more cheek. So don’t be a wee wideo
Maybe read even just a bit of the fucking thread - the majority of Scotland. HTH.
HuckfromScandal · 10/01/2021 22:11

@MrsAmaretto

Yep, and they wonder why we would like a 2nd independence vote!!
Even when told - it’s a regional Scottish thing, still the vitriolic nonsense continues...seriously- if it was about another nations variation in language - it would be called something else.

Whilst I have been jocular (apart from my first post - where I called people a bunch of C&&ts). I am really actually pretty upset and disgusted at the blatant anti Scottish sentiment expressed.

Lalliella · 10/01/2021 22:12

@BargainCunt

You can go to Markies OP. Today, tomorrow.

At Chrimbo. And when on Holibobs.

Just don't drink too much pop. All that sugar will have you running amok on the internet.

@BargainCunt OP’s hubster will love this, hun.
MorrisZapp · 10/01/2021 22:17

It's Markie's in Aberdeen, always has been. Interesting fact is that the cash machine beside Markie's in Aberdeen pays out more than any other machine in Scotland.
