And want to move away? We moved from London to Bucks a few years ago. I’d grown up here and regret moving back. Nothing has changed & it will never feel like somewhere I want to be. OH on the other hand loves it. Anyone in the same boat?

Yes, I’m afraid so. We moved 4 years ago to a more spacious house and garden, but I hate it. The road is a rat run and I’ve never liked living here. I’ve really tried - I’ve been to hypnosis to try and like it, but just can’t get used to the constant traffic. Husband doesn’t want to move, so I’m not sure when or even if this will ever happen. I feel guilty for feeling this way - it’s a nice house - just wrong area . Am also feeling like I’m wasting my life feeling miserable here. It’s been nearly half a decade!

ChurchofLatterDayPaints · 28/11/2021 16:41

Yes, it's basically an open-air prison in the middle of nowhere. Stuck here for another 8 years until youngest child finishes school.

Can you move again?

Fet2021duejuly2022 · 28/11/2021 16:45

All my neighbours are obsessed with building extensions and shit in their gardens even though they already have big houses and don’t need the extra space. It’s like a shanty town. They also love replacing things that don’t need replacing like windows. I’m sick of the drilling and banging. (It’s been like this since we moved 7 years ago).

Glassofshloer · 28/11/2021 16:59

Following. I don’t hate where I live but I find these threads interesting.

megletthesecond · 28/11/2021 17:09

Yes. Mainly the estate though. Skanky neighbours. No support from the council or police as it's so crap.
When I moved here I never realised how miserable a bad estate would be to live in. I wasn't judgy enough back then.....

Cottagepieandpeas · 28/11/2021 17:11

Yes. Moved from London to a village about 2 years ago. I hate it. There is nothing here.

BeyondOurReef · 28/11/2021 17:11

I hate living in this region. Where I live within it is trying to make the best of a bad deal. I’m stuck here til DS finishes school though. 😩

HaroldSteptoesHorse · 28/11/2021 17:11

I hate where I live. On a shitty estate in south london. Crime is rife. It’s grey and crap. Busy saving up to move to the coast in the next few years

Megan1992xx · 28/11/2021 17:14

Live by the sea absolutely love it! Would not swap it for the world.

Chasingaftermidnight · 28/11/2021 17:15

Yes. I like my house a lot but I just can’t make myself like the town we live in - well-known commuter town in South East. The worst thing about it is the traffic, the air quality is absolutely dire and it isn’t really possible to go for a nice walk through or round the town because of it.

Rubyupbeat · 28/11/2021 17:17

My area is getting worse by the month, was a lovely area 20 years ago, but is getting dangerous and over built on. Our road is really lovely, lookswise and neighbours wise, but we will definitely move out in the next few years. It's very sad.

Envoitrevisage · 28/11/2021 17:18

I lived in Bucks, fell out of love with it and so I moved. Stick a pin in a map and try somewhere else.

Theteapot · 28/11/2021 17:21

Well I did hate where I lived, but then I moved to Brighton and I love it!

Comedycook · 28/11/2021 17:24

I love the area I live now... nothing special...just suburban London...but it's a "nice" road. I previously lived on a very noisy road in a rougher part of town, which I hated... disliking where you live has such a huge impact on your quality of life. It really is awful so I totally sympathise

PositiveLife · 28/11/2021 17:25

I have the opposite. I'd love to move back to where I grew up or similar (possibly halfway between there and where I live now) but I'm stuck where I am. Kids are settled in school, no jobs in the places I'd like to move to (for me) and house prices are ridiculous. I can't see that I'd ever be able to move back short of a lottery win.

I guess I'm lucky that I don't hate it here. I just feel I'd have a much healthier lifestyle elsewhere.

Darbs76 · 28/11/2021 17:25

I like where I live (Surrey) but it’s so expensive so planning to move back to wales - when youngest finishes school, another 4yrs!

TorySteller · 28/11/2021 17:27

We hated it when we lived in our old house. New build estate that had a huge ASB problem. Constant parking wars. We could hear every single noise that came from the house attached to ours. We were also quite far away from any decent shops/restaurants.

We moved a couple of years ago and it’s unbelievable how much it has improved my mental health.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 28/11/2021 17:28

Looking for a new relationship? Throw a brick out the window and marry whoever it hits.

Pysgodywibliwobli · 28/11/2021 17:29

I have been in this situation and moved. Lived on a big urban city in quite a run down part. Neighbours were horrible and we could here shouting through the walls. Teenagers hanging around alley across the road from our house. No nice parks. Severe lack of green/ nature. I couldn't imagine starting a family there.

We moved to the peak district when a job opportunity arose and we love it here!

If you can move, do. It made a huge difference to our happiness.

Live by the sea absolutely love it! Would not swap it for the world.
Which is the absolute opposite of the OP’s question 😁
Helpstopthepain · 28/11/2021 17:32

I love where I live. I grew up in some shitty places and feel really lucky to be where I am now.

Westfacing · 28/11/2021 17:34

I love where I live, inner London, wouldn't change it for the world.

I'm sorry for those who are unhappy with their surroundings - my late mother lived in a very dismal place and I could hardly bring myself to visit. I lived there for two years in my late teens and couldn't wait to get away - would never have returned if mother hadn't lived there.

Surroundings are so important.

Walesrecommendations · 28/11/2021 17:39

Coastal town in SE. Bought one of three houses we could afford 5 years ago. On the edges of a crappy estate, lots of drunks wandering about, drug dealers moved in opposite and now have constant cars coming and going all night slamming doors and beeping. Houses so close together and gardens so small I can hear my neighbours showering/pissing in the summer when everyone has their windows open. Generally the area is run down, bus shelter continually gets smashed, broken glass and bottles/dog shit sporadically. Traffic around the town is absolutely horrific as are the fumes at key roundabouts/traffic lights. It took me 50 minutes to drive 8 miles to work last week. Fortunately we're moving soon but yes I do hate where I live. Partly because it just isnt me. I grew up in the country, and living in such a busy area close to so many people makes me anxious and miserable.

ExpectingLady93 · 28/11/2021 17:43

I love where we live but worried we may have to move out our area to get the space we need. Our area is quite experience. Currently 2 of us and next year will be 3. We live in a 2 bed terrace house.

Worried where we will end up but we need the space.
