Anyone dislike where they live???

And want to move away? We moved from London to Bucks a few years ago. I’d grown up here and regret moving back. Nothing has changed & it will never feel like somewhere I want to be. OH on the other hand loves it. Anyone in the same boat?

@Riverlee I realise you must live in Kent too and yes, one of your guesses is close! I want to leave the county altogether, though; the relentless development and ever increasing volume of traffic has largely ruined it.
My recalcitrant H knows I dislike the place for the reasons I’ve mentioned, amongst others, and on the whole he agrees with me, nevertheless he’s resistant to moving because of course, it’s difficult, stressful and expensive. I just have to believe he’ll come round because the thought of never escaping is too depressing a prospect.

DucklingDaisy · 12/11/2022 20:18

I’m in a really nice part of south London and literally every day when I walk through the park, or to drop my daughter off at nursery, or even just up to the station, I feel really grateful to live where I do. I’ve been here a year and I never felt like this anywhere else.

DripDripDripSugar · 12/11/2022 20:19

Like the area, hate the house. It’s a really popular area, loads of competition and we just needed somewhere, anywhere. Since then all the things we kind of glossed over like the three decades worth of ad hoc bodged DIY jobs, have come to light. Hoping the impending recession won’t stop
is moving next year.

Justwalkthissideplease · 13/11/2022 08:10

@DucklingDaisy Where is it that you live? I've lived all around South London, and am yet to 'love' the location..

Blackheath! I hadn’t really visited at all until we started looking for houses to buy, though I’d been to Greenwich Park.

RoseMartha · 14/11/2022 22:02

Yes I would love to move away. The town has outgrown itself and I would like to live somewhere quieter.

Supernothing22 · 14/11/2022 22:03

I love the wider area u live in but hate mt current ovation due to stupidly large amounts of traffic needing to drive through the town to get to 3 cities and there not being many other road options.
A 3 miles journey to work can on a bad day take 40 mi Ute's and I have to drive due to child care

@Megan1992xx

Live by the sea absolutely love it! Would not swap it for the world.
Which is the absolute opposite of the OP’s question 😁

Lol 😂😂😂😂😂

hesbeingabitofadick · 15/11/2022 16:59

Moved here nearly 19yrs ago.
I hate it.
It's only 25miles from my home town, but it's also about 100yrs away.
We could have bought nearer to, but didn't. Probably quite lucky there, as I don't want to live there now either It's become a bit shit.
We could afford to move, but with the way the world is going I suspect I'll leave this crappy house feet first. 🤷‍♀️

BeverleyMacca1 · 15/11/2022 17:06

Yes, I live in the East Midlands and I fucking hate it. Backwards, racist, nothing here, transport links are awful, housing is cheap though, relatively, but there’s a huge reason for that.

Toomanysquishmallows · 15/11/2022 17:58

I live in a currently fashionable part of north east London , it’s really not as nice as it’s hyped to be . Lots of crime and dog mess , I am staying because we have a social housing property and one of my dcs has a special school place , but I don’t love it here .

purplerainlondon · 15/11/2022 18:01

I love where I live in Wimbledon Park. I've never felt more at home!

Um, good for you?

Wrennie24 · 15/11/2022 19:26

I know I should like where I live but I hate it. Nice house, good enough neighbours but in a city with increasingly poor council upkeep. It's filthy and the pavements and roads so poorly maintained, it's hard to even go out for a walk without turning your ankle. Park nearby but full of off the lead dogs. City has a lot going on in it but I've not really made many friends to go out with. I look out onto other houses. It's just so dull. Give me country or coastal any day. But again a few years until youngest finishes school, but will need to stay as well for college as he needs support. It's a bit of a drudge tbh.

Shouldbesleeping1 · 16/11/2022 08:19

I know everyone seems to be moving to Bristol but I really hated it and moved away last year. Too busy, we lived in a crap area with crap schools (couldn't afford the nicer areas). I also got fed up with the wannabe hippies living in the vans leaving their crap all over my road. Everything family related was heaving - waiting lists for kids sports, museums, clubs. Crap graffiti everywhere, rubbish everywhere and crazily expensive. I also spent half my week sitting in traffic.
Anyway, we moved away last year and it is bliss. I don't think I realised how stressed I was until I stopped feeling stressed all the time.
Now I love visiting Bristol and all it has to offer but I'm glad I'm not raising my family there.

Deedee3616 · 17/12/2024 00:46

I hate it , in country side miles from amenities. I loved my old house . Thought I would never move again . Then daughter wanted somewhere to put horses and husband wanted quieter place . Horses are 2 attached to each other so she can’t seperate them and I feel that any time I want to go anywhere it’s something ch an effort. A living nightmare. Lesson learnt don’t move unless you all agree as my life is ruined

Littlemouse123 · 04/05/2025 15:56

Like my house, do not like the estate i live on. Feels like a prison for me, clique neighbours, selfish neighbours Trying to sell house and move. Don't know how long that will take.

TheElvishQueen · 04/05/2025 17:40

I live in Edinburgh but realised I had made a mistake in moving back quite quickly . I grew up here but the city is not for me. The traffic has become unbearable. The weather is crap and I haven’t made any good friends. Neighbours do not talk to each other, there is no community spirit and everything is part of a chain charging extortionate prices . It feels like a massive rip off. The council are useless and everything is just falling apart. I want to move to a small town with a community spirit or semi rural . Back to England where my kids are. Recommendations needed!

Out of curiosity, are you still in Kent? Did you move?

Reliablesource · 04/05/2025 20:33

I’ve lived in various parts of London since my early 20s and now in late 50s, and somehow still find myself here for no good reason. Have definitely had enough of London - so over-populated; rude, selfish people; no sense of community; aggressive drivers; rising crime. Am determined to retire somewhere much quieter by the sea and have been doing loads of research on where to go. Leaning heavily towards Dorset and am planning recces to investigate further. Hoping to move by the time I’m 60, while I still have the energy and resilience to start again somewhere new. Will be taking my time to find the right location and property as I want it to be my final move to grow old in. Have realised that all my previous moves over 30 years were a bit rash and led to regrets of one type or another.

Sherborne is nice .

Reliablesource · 05/05/2025 08:42

Thankyou @TheElvishQueen I will add Sherborne to the list. Currently looking at: Weymouth and nearby villages, plus Bridport, Wareham, Lyme Regis, Isle of Portland.

TheElvishQueen · 05/05/2025 08:52

Oh God, not the Isle of Portland! It’s an absolute dump . I have a relative living there.

Noooooo, really??! How disappointing! I had some friends rave about it, admittedly having only been there for a short break. I have heard the people have a reputation for being very insular and not very welcoming to outsiders though. And I hear there’s going to be a huge incinerator built there which has somewhat put me off, You know better than me, if you have relatives living there.

Do you know anything about Lyme Regis, Wareham, Bridport or Weymouth? I really want to be by the sea, and somewhere peaceful so am happy to look at villages on the outskirts of the bigger towns.
