Purely for a Black Forest gateau?

I've looked everywhere for one and finally saw one this morning in M&S. But is was fifteen quid?!?!?!?!?

It will only be for dh and I as the kids don't like it (weirdos). And I just think that's a ridiculous amount to spend on pudding for two people.

Whats the chances it'll be whoopsied down to a more manageable fiver or so right before closing time?

Ooh I fancy one too now!

BlackCatShadow · 24/12/2020 13:44

Yeah, I love grabbing last minute Christmas bargains!

Lockheart · 24/12/2020 13:44

If you want to go then go, why would that be unreasonable? Totally up to you!

I suppose it's just a bit ridiculous to do it. And the staff may have been able to close earlier if the shop was empty (do they do that?)

I don’t know if it will. I read (on here I think) that M&S (used to?) have staff come in after hours to purchase excess stock at knock down prices.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 24/12/2020 13:46

It’s £7.50 each, it’s not THAT ridiculous! You o pop at similar or more for a lame pub dessert.

MercedesDeMonteChristo · 24/12/2020 13:47

But either way, I think you should buy it, even if it’s still £15 (as long as you can afford it etc).

SmidgenofaPigeon · 24/12/2020 13:47

*pay more or similar

JovialNickname · 24/12/2020 13:47

Far from being unreasonable, it's a brilliant idea! They always have masses of reduced stock after 7 pm in the evening anyway (where I live everything's a pound!) So Xmas Eve when they'll be closed the next day you have a great chance of picking up some luxury bargains. So long as you don't mind the scrum of course and haven't got your heart set on just that one thing. Good luck!!

I know, but in a pub I get to be out the house, no dishes etc. It's an event.

No, you are helping the Black Forest gateau to fulfill its life purpose and saving it from being potentially cruelly binned.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 24/12/2020 13:49

Oh I fully understand. I miss the pub so much!

But if you’re not spending money in the pub then why not treat yourself, and not feel guilty, it is Christmas!

MrsChristmasHamlet · 24/12/2020 13:50

They won't be able to close early so do it.
As a very ex M&s employee, Christmas Eve "waste" was always brilliant. Better still if you were on shift to sell it because you got first dibs. Those were the days.

Whammyyammy · 24/12/2020 13:52

Id buy it now, in case none left. But hope u get the bargain. I love black forest gateau too.

Fizbosshoes · 24/12/2020 13:54

You wouldnt be unreasonable but you might have to have a back up choice if they had sold out (how many people spend £15 on a dessert.....but it is Christmas!) Or your local M and S didnt stock it.

UrAWizHarry · 24/12/2020 13:54

Last minute christmas shopping? It will be fucking heaving with people.

Only worry is it is sold out. If you're not bothered about possible wasted journey then yanbu.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 24/12/2020 13:56

It's deffo in stock, though could have sold out by then. If it's gone then we willnjust have to share the dcs profitteroles

We tried to pick up a reduced pud in M&S last year, and it only had 10% knocked off (on Boxing Day, down to £18) with only a day or two left on the date.

Here's hoping you have better luck!

Dontstepinthecowpat · 24/12/2020 14:02

I was in M&S an hour ago for bread and milk, have already got my Christmas food and was gutted that everything was yellow labeled. I could have saved a fortune!

MrsChristmasHamlet · 24/12/2020 14:02

Lidl have a nice Black Forest trifle. It sadly didn't make it to Christmas 🤣

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 24/12/2020 14:03

They've started yellow labelling already?!

Are you sure it will even be on the shelves if you go 15 minutes before closing? My waitrose today had near empty shelves at noon.
