To nip to M&S tonight 15mins before it closes?

Purely for a Black Forest gateau?

I've looked everywhere for one and finally saw one this morning in M&S. But is was fifteen quid?!?!?!?!?

It will only be for dh and I as the kids don't like it (weirdos). And I just think that's a ridiculous amount to spend on pudding for two people.

Whats the chances it'll be whoopsied down to a more manageable fiver or so right before closing time?

I’ve got one too, it looks delicious. Ordered it when I ordered my turkey, didn’t want to risk them
not having it in store. I can’t wait to tuck in.

MrsLeclerc · 24/12/2020 16:30

Black Forest Gateau is the best dessert ever...so no YANBU. Go and get it ASAP! I wish I’d bought that instead of the Yule log but no room in the fridge Blush

SpacePug · 24/12/2020 16:34

I think any leftover reduced stock will be cleared away by 15mins before close, go an hour before at least. The staff want to get away on time, it's Christmas Eve. I work in a supermarket and reduced stuff goes in the waste at least an hour before close, we don't want to be stuck behind after the shops shut doing that job, especially at Christmas!

AgeLikeWine · 24/12/2020 16:37

In normal times, I always do a tour round the supermarkets on Christmas Eve afternoon to fill my freezer with bargains, but not this year.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/12/2020 16:38

I'm just placemarking to see the results of this experiment!

nauticant · 24/12/2020 16:39

I had a quick look in Poundland but everything seemed to be full price.

rollinggreenhills · 24/12/2020 16:41

I'm glad I left the thread and went quickly down to our Morrisons. I got a whole fresh salmon for £2.36. Bargain.

It is now in fillets in the freezer.

LEELULUMPKIN · 24/12/2020 17:02

My DSis has just got back and got me a massive turkey crown from M&S £3!!!

Shehz21 · 24/12/2020 17:04

I'm in M&S and still £15 Xmas Sad

TicTacTwo · 24/12/2020 17:38

Did you get one op?

lockdownlife19285 · 24/12/2020 17:42

Went in at 4pm - very few items with yellow sticker. The only thing that stuck out was a large christmas house yule log that had been reduced from £20 to £7

Melonlover80 · 24/12/2020 17:44

@Crunchymum

Do you not have anything better to do at 6.45pm on Xmas eve *@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz* ? Not being snipey, just genuinely curious!!

(Maybe your M&S close earlier than mine?)

You’re posting on mumsnet

Do you not have anything better to do?

Genuine question Grin

So lucky! Plenty of Turkey's still sitting full price when I was in at 4pm. Looks like each store has its own technique for reductions!

No wonder covid cases are out of control!

We are going to end up like France where you can’t leave the house unless you had a bit of paper showing where you are going with strict fines. How is getting a £15 pudding essential? Ffs

LEELULUMPKIN · 24/12/2020 18:16

@lockdownlife19285 It was lucky! My Dsis is like that though, if I had gone there would have been nowt!

It's in my freezer now.

Bah fucking humbug to you too.

To be fair I have spent the afternoon opening elf baskets and playing board games with DC, had a meal together, overseen showers and new PJs being put on and theyre not on their electronic gadgets while I am sat on mumsnet, eating minstrels. I could quite happily get in my car and drive to the shops. Also i cant see many better uses of time than getting her and DH a treat at a decent price. :)

Greenbks · 24/12/2020 18:44

And the verdict op?

happytobemrsg · 24/12/2020 18:50

That’s my favourite dessert. Definitely not unreasonable

MamaNewtNewt · 24/12/2020 18:55

I got one from Morrisons for about £3.50. Love me a Black Forest gateau. DH and DD don't like it so I guess I'll have to plough through on my own.

Well, turns out I did have something else to do! Dhs family asked to meet us for a walk so we went and ended up only just getting in the front door now so the fizz has been opened and the dessert will have to just be shared with the kids.

Merry Christmas everyone!!

M&S are renowned for 'staff first'.

My cousin's a food hall manager. Every Xmas eve for years, she's rocked up to the village where her dps, my dps & another uncle live with her car exploding at the seams with heavily discounted everything.

It's all a bit random - you wouldn't want to rely on it for everything for Xmas day - but dps' freezer is always bursting with crazy posh food throughout January.

Dmum used to fret that she was nicking it 😁 but cousin is very clear that staff dibs officially start when the yellow labelling starts.

If that's NOT the case, she's been scamming them pretty relentlessly for 20 years +, but her take has always been that it's part of the M&S brand to clear the decks, & also a valued staff perk.

Boscoforever · 24/12/2020 23:27

I was making my bread sauce this evening after work and realised I had no cream: M&S Simply Food is only 5 mins up the road, so nippped up at 17.45, it closes at 7pm. They don’t close any earlier.
Nearly everything was yellow label! I was amazed. Shelves full of turkeys all yellow label. Desserts, veg etc all yellow label.
I’m got 1L milk, loaf of bread and my cream for £1 something!Grin

Boscoforever · 24/12/2020 23:27

SHOuld have added, no queue, wasn’t very busy either.
