Pajama bottoms with backside seams are unhygenic

590 replies

Fangtiger · 18/12/2020 11:10

Am I the only person who has a problem with the backside seam on pajama bottoms? The seam goes up my bum so I end up wearing night time knickers underneath to stop that happening and to stop having to wash my pjs every day. Do pj bottoms without a backside seam exist? Someone told me M&S had some, but can't find them.

Dumplings, the word ‘skanky’ was used twice. First by a knicker-wearer, and then as a retort from a non-knicker wearer.

OHolyTights · 18/12/2020 21:55

I wonder if Lakeland make an airer for this?

DumplingsAndStew · 18/12/2020 21:57

@Feministicon

Yes, most of it. The airing is a old wives tale really and one posted suggested the thrush thing but by all means have your tantrum.
It's a tantrum to be offended by people insinuating that I'm an unhygienic skank because of a medical condition? And no, it's not just one poster who said that at all, which you'd see if you bothered to read.
N0tthe0nlyfruit · 18/12/2020 21:58

Surely it's only dirty if you not showering every day and wiping sufficiently?

Feministicon · 18/12/2020 21:59

I have bothered to read and you are being disingenuous, no one has said wearing an incontinence pad was skanky and you know that

perditaplum · 18/12/2020 21:59

If you wash pyjamas every day then would you also wash sheets every day if you sleep without pyjamas ?

Allamericanreject · 18/12/2020 22:01

I always sleep in pants. I have discharge and just feel wet when I don't and its so uncomfortable.

ChwistmasTwee · 18/12/2020 22:02

I'm learning a lot about how gross I am from this thread. I don't wash my PJs daily, more like once every 1-2 weeks, and I don't change into clean night time knickers.

Ravenesque · 18/12/2020 22:06
@SkeletorAttack my DM always said it's bad for you to wear pants at night as you've 'got to let your fanny breathe' lord knows WTF that means but I now cannot tolerate pants at night Grin
My DM said the same!

HitthatroadJack · 18/12/2020 22:06

I can't see what the drama can be about washing pjs every day or couple of days. Most people have a washing machine that does it for them!

Sleep in whatever you are comfortable with. I just don't see the point of wearing pj bottom if you are wearing knickers, and vice-versa. Unless you are camping in sub-zero temperature outside, surely you have a warm enough duvet that you don't need to layer up at night?

pinkbalconyrailing · 18/12/2020 22:07

what did you naked sleeperers do on class trips?
what about when in hospital over night?
sleeper train?

Feministicon · 18/12/2020 22:10

PJs to conform

TreesoftheField · 18/12/2020 22:17

I also feel like I'm going to wet myself if I sleep without pants..... I can't sleep! Am I a massive prude who is unable to relax without a covered fanny?

JinglingHellsBells · 18/12/2020 22:18

@pinkbalconyrailing

1 Not at school, don't go on class trips

2 I think in hospital they give you a gown

3 Don't use sleeper trains

GrolliffetheDragon · 18/12/2020 22:18

Meh. I prefer to sleep naked, bit as DS is in with us most nights tend to wear a t-shirt at least. On the rates occasions I wear PJ bottoms to bed I don't wear knickers because of the thrush thing, I'm depressingly prone to getting it, appears to be hormonal but I avoid anything that will make it more likely.

inthekitchensink · 18/12/2020 22:19

This thread is amazing Grin

For what it’s worth, my friend was astounded I wore the same size pyjama bottoms as my normal clothes and that you should always go 2 or 3 sizes bigger for maximum comfort. Twas a revelation.

Still always wear knickers with them though

Feministicon · 18/12/2020 22:20

It might go as far back as your potty training, if we have been indoctrinated by air your fanny mums then it stands to reason.
JinglingHellsBells · 18/12/2020 22:20

@waterlego

If you sleep nakeed, then don't you have to wash your bedding every day?

Otherwise how is it different to not changing your pants every day?

It’s different because pants are directly touching your vulva and are right next to your arse crack. Bed sheets, not so much. (Unless you sleep in very unusual positions).

I am shocked by some posts here.

It's as if people don't wash.

I have a shower in the morning and bath at night just before bed.

I don't think that's unusual.

Hooray, someone like me exists on MN!

Wheresmykimchi · 18/12/2020 22:23

You shouldn't wear pants to bed. Your body needs to breathe !

JinglingHellsBells · 18/12/2020 22:25

If some posters are so squeamish about sheets, what do you do after sex? Are you washing sheets every time you have sex (without a condom)?

Thewinterofdiscontent · 18/12/2020 22:33

@DumplingsAndStew

Hold on *@Thewinterofdiscontent* what leakage are you going to stop with a tampon?
Natural lubrication. If you’ve got a tight thin dress on you don’t want a damp patch if you’ve been sitting down for a while.

And yes of course it’s not sensible to wear a tampon for non period use. I wear a tight dress with no underwear probably once every couple of years. So panic ye not people.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 18/12/2020 22:35

@AldiAisleofCrap

Wearing underwear under pjs is really unhygienic, surely everyone wears a clean pair of pjs every night?
I don't own enough pairs of pyjamas to be able to wear a clean pair every night. I'd run out before I had chance to wash and dry the dirty ones. None of the friends who I have shared houses/flats/hotel room with have worn a clean pair every night either.
riotlady · 18/12/2020 22:36

I saw this thread this morning, I can’t believe it’s still going! Mumsnet is fucking nuts xD

Another gross person here! I do occasionally shower in the evening and will then put clean knickers on for the night, but otherwise the daytime knickers stay on.
