It's interesting the posters saying their 'gyn' told them not to wear pants in bed due to increased risk of thrush etc, surely these posters have a gyn becaue they have issues down there? Same as if a GP said don't wear them, they wouldn't volunteer that information if you went in to discuss an ear infection etc. I'm taking a guess the posters who have been clinically advised against pants at night already have gynaecological problems. For the average Joe, nothing bad is happening by wearing pants at night
Or american, where it’s as normal to have an annual fanny check as it is to see the dentist. GYN tends to be US usage.
Again though, we’re talking about population data vs anecdata. It’s a mumsnet thing- if you say “vaccines prevent flu”, you’ll get a load of posters saying well I had the vaccine and still got flu, as if their personal experience disproves all the scientific research.
So in the pants case wearing them increases your risk of UTI’s, thrush, BV etc. It means x number of women out of 100 will suffer if they wear pants, but a lower number out of 100 will if they don’t.
It doesn’t mean if you wear pants you will suffer, it means you are more likely to. So if you are prone to that sort of infection or want to avoid one, best to wear cotton pants and not tights, no close fitting pants in bed etc.
