Pajama bottoms with backside seams are unhygenic

590 replies

Fangtiger · 18/12/2020 11:10

Am I the only person who has a problem with the backside seam on pajama bottoms? The seam goes up my bum so I end up wearing night time knickers underneath to stop that happening and to stop having to wash my pjs every day. Do pj bottoms without a backside seam exist? Someone told me M&S had some, but can't find them.

All these people talking about body parts breathing, are you sleeping naked with no sheet, no covering at all? Otherwise pants won't make the slightest difference. And only your lungs need to breathe, the rest of you just needs to sweat to cool you down if need be and guess what, cotton is brilliant at allowing that to happen.

And yes I think compared to most of MN I am also a minger but I do shower every day and wear clean pants.

Feministicon · 18/12/2020 22:38

Never heard of anything like that @wint

Ducksurprise · 18/12/2020 22:39

Mumsnet is on form tonight

empiricallyyours · 18/12/2020 22:40

Don't most people sleep naked? The thought of wearing pants in bed is very alien to me (unless on first couple of days of my period). I usually wear pjs (knickerless) as lounge wear and take them off before getting into bed. Pyjamas washed after one wear.

Health wise, most people are fine either way, but for some women sleeping in pants can cause an increased risk of bacterial/yeast infections apparently....

@HitthatroadJack

I can't see what the drama can be about washing pjs every day or couple of days. Most people have a washing machine that does it for them!

Sleep in whatever you are comfortable with. I just don't see the point of wearing pj bottom if you are wearing knickers, and vice-versa. Unless you are camping in sub-zero temperature outside, surely you have a warm enough duvet that you don't need to layer up at night?

Because I don't run the washing machine every day, I live alone and don't use have enough dirty clothes after one or two days to make a full load.
KickingBishopBrennanUpTheArrse · 18/12/2020 22:43

I don't wear PJs or pants in bed, just a long stretchy slip as a nightie will do or naked in summer. I hate being all trussed up!

empiricallyyours · 18/12/2020 22:44

Surely the answer to that would be to own a few pairs of pyjamas, so that you have enough to last you between washloads?

empiricallyyours · 18/12/2020 22:46

Not sure why, but I'm getting the feeling that wearing knickers in bed = a bit uptight

SirSamuelVimes · 18/12/2020 22:46

I'm currently in bed, sans clothing. Managing, somehow, to resist the temptation to drag my arsehole across the bedclothes like a dog that needs worming. Fanny is getting a nice airing, especially as I'm currently reclining with one knee up and therefore creating a little duvet tent, and yet there is no sign of a river of vaginal secretions surging towards the cotton.

The real bed hygiene issue is that I'm pretty sure I dropped some chocolate about an hour ago but CBA to look.

Thewinterofdiscontent · 18/12/2020 22:47

RichardMarxisinnocent I don’t get how pyjamas plus knickers helps that though. You still have seven extra pairs of knickers to wash plus the pyjamas once a week. Why not just wear the knickers to bed if you live alone?

SuperCaliFragalistic · 18/12/2020 22:48

I don't understand the point of wearing knickers to bed.

Dastardlythefriendlymutt · 18/12/2020 22:50

@PurpleDaisies

You need those arse flap ones that keep being advertised on here. I kept wondering who would ever buy them.
Now I know what the flap was for. Thanks for clearing that up🤣🤣🤣🤣
SirSamuelVimes · 18/12/2020 22:53

I'm not convinced that's what the flap is for... Blush

htbzLlhcR · 18/12/2020 22:54

@MuckyPlucky

Oooh deffo no knickers on at night- you’ve got to let some air round the regions or you’re inviting thrush and general mankiness.
Wtaf? I've worn knickers at night for every night in my entire life and I've never, ever had thrush or any "general mankiness". Sorry but no. Wearing pants is not unhygienic!
empiricallyyours · 18/12/2020 22:56

It is for some women (see my link above).

But can you explain WHY you actually wear knickers, ratter then why it's not unhygienic?

For what it’s worth, my friend was astounded I wore the same size pyjama bottoms as my normal clothes and that you should always go 2 or 3 sizes bigger for maximum comfort. I have a pair just one size too big and they fall down to my hips if I don't roll the waistband over. My others are the right size and perfectly comfortable.

Don't go forgetting, I would and I'd wake up thinking I'd shat the bed. 😳
Feministicon · 18/12/2020 22:57

I think wearing breathable underwear is fine and no underwear is fine.

AldiAisleofCrap · 18/12/2020 22:57

@DumplingsAndStew I don’t think you were a skank and never used that word, and yes it was my mum who told me to let things breath. You wearing knickers for Incontinence is no different to women wearing knickers when they are on a period. You may well need to then if you can’t use a tampon or need to double up. Yes it risks thrush but if you have to wear them than you do.
I certainly was not implying that anyone with a medical condition should feel criticised for that. It’s a lighthearted thread am genuinely sorry if anything I said upset you.

It's cold. I'm in t-shirt, Uniqlo thermal leggings with undies, and bed socks at the moment
Feministicon · 18/12/2020 23:00

@AldiAisleofCrap you never heard nice implied those wearing incontinence pads or sanitary towels were skanks, it was a mild rebuttal to those saying the knickerless were grotbags

You don't see how pyjamas plus knickers helps what? Sorry, not sure which of my posts you're replying to.

Most nights I'm wearing the same pair of knickers day and night so no I don't have 7 extra pairs of knickers to wash. I have one or occasionally two extra pairs.

I don't own enough pyjamas to be able to wash them after one wear - I'd need to be washing pyjamas every couple of days, but there wouldn't be enough other dirty clothes to wash with them, so I couldn't wash them every day and would thus run out.

I don't want to wear just knickers to bed, I feel more comfortable in pyjamas (the sort with shorts and short sleeved top, rather than long trousers and long sleeves).

Pootle40 · 18/12/2020 23:02

I have worn pants at night since I was about 12. Sometimes I try to not wear them and it's freakin' weird! Keeps me awake.
