Much more spending announced on 'defence' than eco policies, children growing up in poverty, dodgy contracts awarded to buddies and today pay freezes for public sector workers and a proven bully being supported in her role. All this on top of one of the worst covid death rates in the world. How much longer do we sit by idly?

notheragain41 · 20/11/2020 14:09

No there won't be riots. We will sit by idly just as you say. We don't challenge our politicians, people fall for the divide and rule tactics, many people put up and shut up because they don't look out to some other countries and see just how shit we are, we don't expect or demand more. BJ will continue to get away with it because he can and he knows it, some of us will moan, share some witty memes on facebook, but we will let it continue.

Hayeahnobut · 20/11/2020 14:13

The rioting types like these things. "Defend r sovrinty!"

For those of us that object to the actions of the government, we're more likely to write letters. Perhaps a socially distanced march?

KitKatastrophe · 20/11/2020 14:14

I dont think it will happen. The government have made people terrified of this virus and the only ones we are angry with is each other. As far as people seem to be concerned, the government has tried their best and we are in this position because of people breaking the rules. If we all followed the rules, we would have lower death rates.

So people won't riot. They will anonymously dob in their neighbours for having 7 people in their house, and feel like heroes for doing so.

dementedma · 20/11/2020 14:16

The Defence budget has been massively cut over the years to the extent we are overstretched and undermanned. Often the people who complain about money being spent on Defence are the same ones calling on the Armed Forces during flooding, civil unrest, Covid trsting and now vaccinations. Cant have it both ways

PickAChew · 20/11/2020 14:17

Too bloody cold to riot.

Lucidas · 20/11/2020 14:20

OP is probably one of those who barricade herself in her home and demand “something be done’ if someone so much as tramples on her front garden.

AllPowerfulLizardPerson · 20/11/2020 14:22

@PickAChew

Too bloody cold to riot.
Very true - riots are nearly all in the summer in Britain. I think the heat gets to people
Judashascomeintosomemoney · 20/11/2020 14:23

Remember three years ago when the NHS was crippled by North Korean based hackers? That would be disastrous if repeated right now. I’m glad they’re spending money on cyber security.

Perfect28 · 20/11/2020 14:32

@dementedma can I just point out that the money for defence won't be going on pay rises for those workers. They will get a freeze. The money will be pumped into corporations (their buddies, like BAE systems) to develop more weapons etc. I don't want more money spent on weapons when our children are hungry and our schools and hospitals are overwhelmed and underfunded.

AdoptedBumpkin · 20/11/2020 14:34

Sadly, I agree with most of you. Would not surprise me if the Tories manage to get back in.

Perfect28 · 20/11/2020 14:35

@Lucidas I can tell you're such a kind person!

Exactly. If anything it wil go towards ways to strip back personnel NOT to pay rises

emilyfrost · 20/11/2020 14:39

There won’t be riots because most of the population aren’t idiots.

Riots won’t solve anything, OP. They’d just destroy what we already have so no idea why you think they’re a good thing.

tortoiseshell1985 · 20/11/2020 14:39

The civil unrest will come once effects of economic onslaught and Brexit are felt, and the deprivation of civil liberties are not reversed
Matter of time

I agree and they will !
Funkypolar · 20/11/2020 14:43

Next year - food shortages, high unemployment and more lockdowns.

Friendsoftheearth · 20/11/2020 14:46

I think the Conservatives will get back in too. Labour is in total disarray and the deep rooted problems in the party need to be flushed out once and for all.

Secondly no chance of anyone rioting, why would they! It is not like it is going to make any difference, the only thing it will achieve is giving the protesters covid.

Perfect28 · 20/11/2020 14:46

@emilyfrost did i say riots are a good thing? I presume you think everything's fine and we should all just chin up and carry on?

OP posts:
Friendsoftheearth · 20/11/2020 14:47

Yup chin up and get on with it, just like the rest of the country op.

Perfect28 · 20/11/2020 14:48

It's clear many are fed up. What are productive ways to express discontent? I'm a huge believer in peaceful protest and non violent direct action personally. I guess people will need to feel like they have literally no other option before they take action? We are far too complacent as a nation.

OP posts:
Perfect28 · 20/11/2020 14:49

@Friendsoftheearth honestly? just sit back and let the shit show happen regardless of all the people suffering?

OP posts:
AlrightTreacle · 20/11/2020 14:51

Too bloody cold to riot.

No such thing as bad weather, just bad clothes!

Lepetitpiggy · 20/11/2020 14:53

I also want to know what the hell we can do. I've begun to feel so gloomy that I almost dont want to go on. Why are we letting a bunch of bullies treat us like this? I suppose it's because we blindly hope that they may one day be right and also most of us are too busy surviving. It's awful

MercyBooth · 20/11/2020 14:59

What are productive ways to express discontent?

An economy strike?

Mummyoflittledragon · 20/11/2020 15:03

We are apparently close to a brexit deal whatever that means. Let’s hope there will be no riots.
