Much more spending announced on 'defence' than eco policies, children growing up in poverty, dodgy contracts awarded to buddies and today pay freezes for public sector workers and a proven bully being supported in her role. All this on top of one of the worst covid death rates in the world. How much longer do we sit by idly?

They are close to a Brexit deal, the wait has been horrendous and the press have done their best to make us feel rubbish about it, but it's close. We are also very close to a vaccine. It's likely many of us will be vaccinated by March/April and normal life can resume. The feel good factor from those two things will be significant.

DGRossetti · 20/11/2020 17:46

They are close to a Brexit deal

Nope.

Can't be done before 31st December. Needs translating and ratification by all 27 countries first.

derxa · 20/11/2020 17:48

Go on OP! Start a wee riot.
The truth is everyone is tired and demoralised.

Impatiens · 20/11/2020 17:49

They are close to a Brexit deal

Even if that was true, we don't know what sort of deal. There's going to be a lot of angry people saying they were sold a lie because of immigration/fishing/tariffs etc etc

Fieldofyellowflowers · 20/11/2020 17:49

No there will NOT be riots. The last time that there were riots in England shops were looted, properties set on fire and innocent people died. Anyone trying to initiate riots or encourage people to participate in riots is a complete idiot.

Perfect28 · 20/11/2020 17:51

@applesonthelawn interesting your optimism. There's no garuntees another pandemic isn't right round the corner, and what about populism, poverty, the refugee crisis, the democracy crisis and climate change (but to name a few).

OP posts:
Applesonthelawn · 20/11/2020 17:52

DGRossetti you sound confident but European leaders can agree to provisionally apply the deal in full before MEPs have scrutinised it (according to "a diplomat" who has spoken to the Times), so talks can go on well into December, i.e. they can implement it before it is ratified in 2021 by MEPs.

Exactly. You're inciting unrest. How nasty are you ?.

Oh, they can, if they believe the UK is acting in good faith.

I'll just leave that there.

Applesonthelawn · 20/11/2020 17:54

Perfect28 yes I am worried about another pandemic, but I don't think people in general will allow the prospect of that to really get to them unless it happens, and good things can come in terms of animal welfare at least. I think the relief provided by the vaccines will be really significant.

Applesonthelawn · 20/11/2020 17:55

DGRossetti well let's wait and see - I am hopeful but appreciate that you aren't.

I think so. We’ll probably see a bounce to go along with it. Just got to get through winter part which is the hard bit.
bravefox · 20/11/2020 17:59

@tortoiseshell1985

The civil unrest will come once effects of economic onslaught and Brexit are felt, and the deprivation of civil liberties are not reversed Matter of time
Yes, just like the predicted riots over lockdown and lockdown 2.

@Applesonthelawn is it the media's fault that with a month to go a deal is not done? in 2019 Johnson spoke of the 'Oven-ready' deal, surely if this was the case it would have been served up by now?

Meanwhile people running businesses are sitting through webinairs desperately trying to work out what they need to do!

Fault lies squarely with the Government for the Brexit shitshow.

Bearnecessity · 20/11/2020 18:03

Riots...? There will be a sharp intake of breath if your lucky followed by copious tea drinking.

Suzeyshoes · 20/11/2020 18:07

Well the deadline for getting all that done was actually going to be Monday. But the EU are very keen for a Deal to be done, so they have kindly extended the deadline Smile

Anybody who thinks there is the hope in hell of a deal that benefits the UK in any way should read this
chrisgreybrexitblog.blogspot.com/
and
WHATEVER deal we get
(from WTO through to EEA)
will not be as beneficial for the UK as what we had

Thank you SWIVEL EYED LOON Tories
and the idiots that voted for them

Perfect28 · 20/11/2020 18:10

@applesonthelawn ignore all the other points then.. La La La fingers in ears 'everything's fine'!

Do you disagree with the European Commission sec gen, then? Better tell him he's wrong!

European Commission secretary general Ilze Juhansone told officials from the 27 member states that a trade deal with Britain was 95% complete

Applesonthelawn · 20/11/2020 18:15

@Perfect28 covid and Brexit are the two points that make our current situation different to the usual situation so I do believe that if we can get a more positive direction on those, life will feel better. I don't have to answer all your points do I? Obviously if you want to go off and start a riot because you are unhappy, go ahead. Doubt you will achieve much.

Dustballs · 20/11/2020 18:17

I wish people would riot. I'd join in. Peacefully rioting.

There's plenty to riot about and enough anger to get people out on the streets.

What is it that stops us?

We need to protest. We need to riot.

ListeningQuietly · 20/11/2020 18:19

Papertowels
If you really believe that the EU will ratify a deal to take effect retrospectively
which would be the case if it was done in January
you are utterly kidding yourself.

The UK Government is trying to force through legislation that breaks international law
WHY would the EU ever trust the Tories to keep their word after that ?

Perfect28 · 20/11/2020 18:21

@applesonthelawn I'm not promoting riots. I feel sorry for your naievity and apathy.
@emilyfrost wow you sound like a really lovely person. Not. Fortunately your 'everything is great' views seem to be very much in the minority. I suggest you get out into the real world. Have a good weekend!
I am in the real world, honey. You’re the one that needs to face reality and calm down. Working yourself into a state over something you can’t change isn’t going to do you any favours.
