To think Camilla should be queen?

Just interested in people's views. The whole Charles/Diana/Camilla thing was grim but it's also grim that she's the one treated as responsible rather than him. All water under the bridge as far as I'm concerned.

(Obviously some people would get rid of the lot of them, and fair enough.)

Vote YANBU for Queen Camilla
Vote YABU for Never Queen Camilla

@Hont1986

Hopefully they just get rid of the whole thing after Elizabeth goes, and we can be rid of having to read or think about them for good.

The members of the St Diana cult are on parade, I see.Hmm

Pemba · 18/11/2020 18:20

Yes I agree they should all go after the Queen dies.

It's an archaic institution and not needed anymore. I used to respect the Queen, but not any more. It's become clear that she colluded with the exploitation and deception of Diana, a naive 19 year old when she agreed to marry Charles.

The last straw is her obvious support of the dreadful Prince Andrew, who is thought to be her favourite child.

Yes, she's kept 'doing her duty' but the woman seems characterless, has been a poor parent and shown a severe lack of judgement when it comes to her family.

Topseyt · 18/11/2020 18:21

@MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously

Was the Wallace Simpson thing to do with her religion as well as her divorced status?
Yes, that is my understanding.

The "divorce" aspect of it looks pretty lame now though. Three of the Queen's own four children are divorced. Charles and Camilla are both divorcees and I think they should have been allowed to get married all those years ago when they first seemed to want to. They seem well suited.

The marriage of Charles and Diana was pretty much forced upon them and was pretty disastrous. They were totally incompatible and the whole episode called the judgment of senior royals into question.

It would surely be hypocritical now and nigh on impossible to say that the King and/or his wife cannot be divorcees. They are human beings at the end of the day, and no more perfect than the rest of us.

eddiemairswife · 18/11/2020 18:22

Of course Camilla should be Queen, and I think she behaved with immense dignity during the years when the tabloids were hurling all kinds of vile abuse at her.

CharitySchmarity · 18/11/2020 18:22

YANBU. I don't really see the point of a monarchy at all, but as long as that system still exists, you get the ones you're given. If people don't like that they should be pushing for an elected president instead.

2bazookas · 18/11/2020 18:23

@passthemustard

As they have been allowed to be married I can't see why she shouldn't be 'Queen'. It's not like she'll keep the crown when Charles dies. Plus when Charles is king he can do what he wants.
No, he can't do what he wants. British monarchs have very limited choices and almost no power at all.
Ohdoleavemealone · 18/11/2020 18:23

I feel for Camilla and Diana. Camilla manipulated by the royal family to marry someone else and Diana used and then cast aside by the Royal family when the obvious happened because Charles and Camilla were in love in a way he and Diana could never be.

Poor women. I'm all for Camilla being crowned queen. I think she is great for this country.

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 18/11/2020 18:23

I don't want her or anyone else to be queen because l think they are a bunch of interfering over privileged toffs. Especially the younger ones, William and Kate seem a bit better now but were behaving like celebrities rather than royals. Don't get me started on the thicko and the actress.

Anyway. No. This latest Netflix Crown series isn't going to do them any favours. It's no more her fault than his. But should she be Queen? No. She is very much in the background, which seems to be what Prince Buffoon prefers. Not that many people take much notice of him anyway. Why would they when they have a paedophile and another Mrs Simpson to feast on?

Literally couldn’t care less!

Not sure why I came on just to post that but maybe to say a lot of people won’t care either way.

As the wife of the King she should really be Queen. Her first husband will also probably die at some stage and then her marriage to Charles will be more acceptable to the C of E I guess.

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 18/11/2020 18:25

It wasn't just that Wallis was divorced. She was still married to number 2 when the Prince entered stage left! Happily too by all accounts.

MayDayFightsBack · 18/11/2020 18:28

She shouldn't be Queen because Charles shouldn't be King, the Monarchy is an outdated and ridiculous institution for a modern, forward-looking country to have. Which probably explains why the UK currently has one. Hmm

HerFlowersToLove · 18/11/2020 18:29

but still there are those who will punish her for not being Diana

Or maybe people think that two people at it for years and years behind their respective husband's/wife's back isn't actually acceptable behaviour. You only have to go on the relationship boards to see the long lasting distress that can cause.

DonnaDonna01 · 18/11/2020 18:30

I’m for skipping to William, I don’t think the problem is Camilla, it’s Charles. Do you want a liar and a cheat for a king (mind it would seem we’ve had plenty throughout history) Plus weak and easily manipulated if he so desperately wanted to marry Camilla originally.

chaosisaladder · 18/11/2020 18:30

I’m team We Shouldn’t Have A Monarchy But If We Have To Please Not That Utter Wet Wipe And His Mistress

I fee the same. Charles should have married Camilla in the first place and Diana deserved a husband who was head over heels in love with her. It's a real shame, both decent women in their own way.
MereDintofPandiculation · 18/11/2020 18:30

The pair of them together are nothing but a reminder of their shitty dirty behaviour and always will be. Just being traditional. English kings always have had mistresses to satisfy the love/lust side, and a queen for the purely business side of forging alliances and breeding heirs. The shittiness was in not making sure Diana knew what her role was.

mbosnz · 18/11/2020 18:31

Should Prince Phillip have been King? And that's without the silly crap the pair of them pulled, which did no good for anybody, particularly the monarch, which is the tit at which the pair of them are latched onto.

JanewaysBun · 18/11/2020 18:32

I don't care either way but think it's better PR if she is princess consort. It a actually quite sad that they weren't allowed to marry back in the day, they do seem dry suited.

If Charles is smart he will involve William a lot as he is so much more popular and be more low profile

JanewaysBun · 18/11/2020 18:33

Philip isn't allowed to be a king. As a consort if he were king he would "outrank" the queen (nice bit of sexism there!) And a consort can't "outrank" a monarch

LongPauseNoAnswer · 18/11/2020 18:34

Do people actually know that The Crown is largely fiction apart from the obvious publicly known events and such. Judging by some of the posts I’m not sure!

I’m not British, being Irish I have opinions about the monarchy that you can probably guess Grin but even I think Camilla should be Queen.

eaglejulesk · 18/11/2020 18:34

This. She didn't whine and complain, she just got on with things. Admirable qualities for a Queen.

eddiemairswife · 18/11/2020 18:35

I think Wallis probably did the country a lot of good by getting her claws into Edward. By all accounts he was a spoilt, peevish playboy, who favoured Hitler. His brother earned a lot of admiration by the way he represented the country during the War.
