If you have a president making bigotry comments, insulting it's people while practising the so called 'freedom of speech' while having a rich history of ripping countries apart for their religion and natural goods doesn't help but escalate things. I don't support terrorism and they should be punished, but as a leader to a country who has a door step full of all sorts of atrocities and war crimes committed in Muslims should shut the fuck up.

DangerMouse17 · 31/10/2020 13:21

"No to terrorism absolutely not and I'm not supporting or feeling any empathy whatsoever, but

It's ok to insult Islam and it's freedom of speech but insult Jews, that's anti semitism. That's the catch to this. Insult homosexuals that's not ok but insult religious beliefs, that's ok as long as it's towards Muslims."

Utter rubbish. There are plenty of comic drawings and comedians who make fun of everything ...and I've seen many a Christian representation of god or jesus in such things. The problem is that there are some fanatics in Islam who see any joke or view against their beliefs as cause to start beheading people. Like god would need their bloody help to "punish" the infidels (if god exists)...these people are just plain thick

howsers · 31/10/2020 13:22

So what should Macron do @Dixiee? Say nothing?

monstermancs · 31/10/2020 13:23

OP, YABVVU and extremely offensive yourself ironically!

Gobbycop · 31/10/2020 13:24

I hope people continue to ridicule religion, especially this one.

Are you suggesting having your head hacked off is justified because someone is upset by a cartoon?

A fucking cartoon.

monstermancs · 31/10/2020 13:29

So basically violence and threats of violence now trumps peaceful protest. That is the way things are heading.

Don't complain OP when you can no longer walk down the street in a t-shirt and a tight pair of jeans in your own city because it might be provocative to a random stranger who will threaten you with violence if you don't cover up (for your own sake of course!).

Clappingforjoy · 31/10/2020 13:29

I'm not justifying anything but knowing the possible consequences why risk this.
Look at the poor innocents dragged into it because somebody decided to draw a cartoon

Clappingforjoy · 31/10/2020 13:30

What exactly is drawing a cartoon achieving anyway

Ahh so it's the cartoonist's fault they were killed? Not the absolute lunatic who stabbed them?

It's funny, I'd be far more afraid of seeing a man wielding a knife than a man wielding a crayon.

EmmetEmma · 31/10/2020 13:33

I think the terrorists are twisted specimens of horror but I also think it’s more nuanced than just defence of freedom of speech.

Joe Sacco did a good cartoon about it. www.theguardian.com/world/ng-interactive/2015/jan/09/joe-sacco-on-satire-a-response-to-the-attacks

howsers · 31/10/2020 13:33

Yep that's why poor innocents were dragged into it.

By your logic if we see further increases in right wing attacks on muslims thats to be expected

missyB1 · 31/10/2020 13:33

Why are so many people gleeful at the idea of disrespecting other people’s beliefs/ faith? Personally I’m Catholic and would ignore any piss taking I don’t get offended. But I don’t go around demanding my “right” to be rude about other Faiths.
There is no excuse for extremism and violence but why this obsession with wanting to rip the piss out of Islam? I don’t get it. And as pp said if it was the Jewish faith it would be branded anti Semitic and unacceptable.

howsers · 31/10/2020 13:34

Women out in short skirts are not out to provoke are or taking the piss

But some men do find it provocative

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 31/10/2020 13:34

Women out in short skirts are not out to provoke are or taking the piss

Men think women in short skirts are 'asking for it', women know this. If they wear them, they should know men think this and accept being assaulted- according to your logic.

monstermancs · 31/10/2020 13:37

Women out in short skirts are not out to provoke are or taking the piss

They are seen as offensive and provocative to many religious men, so best to get those women to stop wearing those skirts and cover up, in case they offend more men. Do you see where this is going yet? Lots of things are offensive they just haven't been policed until now. After that it will be gays told not to kiss or hold hands in public because they might bring violence upon themselves for doing something which other people find offensive. It's a slow creep.

ItsAlwaysSunnyOnMN · 31/10/2020 13:37

What we should always give thought to what men think before making a decision ?

I assume you are taking the piss

Clappingforjoy · 31/10/2020 13:37

Dangermouse yes agreed but the fact is they are out there so dont draw the cartoons and bring them out of hiding

Dixiee tell us pls?

howsers · 31/10/2020 13:38

By all means disagree with the cartoon but don't use it as an excuse to kill.

FourTeaFallOut · 31/10/2020 13:39

Freedom of speech is the foundation of any functioning democracy. And terrorism is holding others ransom to appease your extremist views. You know, here, a cartoon is the starting point to legitimise this violence and if it weren't a cartoon it would be something else, op. And if a cartoon is now not drawn then ideological territory is lost, violence as a way to achieve ideological territory is gained becomes an efficient tool and new bar for offence is drawn.

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 31/10/2020 13:40

What did macron say that warrants beheading people? Your posts are 5% "I don't support terrorism" and 95% "but...."

You should really reflect on whether the first part is true if there are so many caveats in your denouncements

BrightSunshineDay · 31/10/2020 13:40

What exactly is drawing a cartoon achieving anyway

It's called humour. If you were born after 1980 you might need a dictionary.

monstermancs · 31/10/2020 13:41

And as pp said if it was the Jewish faith it would be branded anti Semitic and unacceptable.

Are you joking. There are regularly cartoons taking the piss out of Jews and the holocaust almost every day in Middle Eastern newspapers and there is no uproar, no Jews beheading anyone, nobody gives a shit.

Gobbycop · 31/10/2020 13:44

Why are so many people gleeful at the idea of disrespecting other people’s beliefs/ faith?

Freedom of speech basically. Why should religion be free of ridicule, what makes it so special?

My right to be able to say whatever the fuck I like, when I like about what I like is more important than the right of someone who might be offended.

Whether I do choose to say such things is irrelevant. The important thing is I, or anyone is free to.
