Mystified by tiny gussets. Is there - is there something wrong with my undercarriage?

Never been able to understand how anyone could bear to wear thong-type pants. I've always just thought -surely they must ride up and get into - the bit you don't want interfered with by your clothing??? Never understood it.

Anyhow, I sent for some M&S pants. Look like normal pants. Nice soft fabric. Comfy. Put them on, head out for the day. And -- oh dear, turns out they have a mystifyingly narrow gusset with the consequences I would think were entirely predictable. Not comfy after all! Much hitching down required Grin And there wasn't even a warning!!!

Just - why?

Have I got a weird-shaped fanny? Is it unusually lacking in firmness? Is it in the wrong place?? How does anyone wear these things??

Its not just you, I have the same problem. It seems to be becoming a trend for kids knickers too. I bought my toddler some knickers from sainsburies recently and the gusset didn't cover anything and kept sliding about the place. Useless.

PerseverancePays · 20/10/2020 14:25

What I find even more disturbing is how this stinginess with fabric extends to little girls’s pants and swimsuits. You never see little boys’s bottoms hanging out of their pants and swimsuits but for girls it’s practically the norm.

As for female athletes aaaaaaaargh!

UnRavellingFast · 20/10/2020 14:26

Omg this thread is testing my own knickers 😂

@BreconBeBuggered - the new Jane Austen, ‘grip and gusset’

CleverCatty · 20/10/2020 14:26

Surely there's a market out there for these....larger gusset ones I mean

recklessgran · 20/10/2020 14:26

Crumbs. You lot have put my mind at rest - I spent years going to bed in a carrier bag and I learn now [long after my shop has shut!] that actually it was all because the blinking knicker gussets and sanitary towels were having an argument!

Branleuse · 20/10/2020 14:27

No VPL styles means they have no elastic to keep them in place. They are going to give you a wedgie front and back, guaranteed.

Also of course you cant wear pads with flimsy little brazillian knickers. They are fancy knickers, not period pants

EvelynBeatrice · 20/10/2020 14:27

Caitlin Moran once wrote an article bemoaning the trend for small ladies knickers....
The poster above who mentioned the pants badged ‘high legs’ was on to something. V comfy.
Didn’t Jeremy Paxman once mount a campaign to persuade M&S to change the men’s briefs?

LittleTiger007 · 20/10/2020 14:30

😂 I can relate. I used to find thongs comfy... then I passed 30 and I needed a bigger pant to be comfy! 🤷‍♀️

SabrinaSalem · 20/10/2020 14:30

The gussets in M&S knickers have genuinely got smaller over the years. I've been buying the same style (bikini, or whatever they're called now) for about 10 years and began to suspect a drop in quality. Dug out an old pair from the back of the drawer the other day and compared the two - older ones have a wider gusset, thicker & softer fabric, and wash better.

Cadent · 20/10/2020 14:30

No I love wide sanitary towels, please don’t get them narrowed! Primary had some huge gusseted knickers yesterday. I didn’t get them though as I I’m all about laser cut knickers these days. OP got some from eBay M&S and gusset is fine but they are low rise, any good?

BigusBumus · 20/10/2020 14:32

I have extensively researched gusset width and i can tell you that THESE ones from Tu at Sainsbury's are perfect for holding a sanitary pad. Although you do have to put it slightly forward of the gusset, don't know why...

user1481840227 · 20/10/2020 14:37

Reminds me of this Grin

QueenPaws · 20/10/2020 14:38

Sainsbury's or Matalan for me
And reusable sanitary pads. I get the ones with a flare and put the flared bit at the front! Depends which way you bleed (front or back)

alltoomuchrightnow · 20/10/2020 14:40

I have noticed recently just how tiny gussets have become only because I was taking suggestive photos to send to someone However, everything fits in..just.

inappropriateraspberry · 20/10/2020 14:43

@Marcipex

I always think that the double-thickness bit is in the wrong place 🤔
Yes! I was sat in the loo thinking this the other day. It should be longer, going further up the front a bit.
Ariela · 20/10/2020 14:44

WHY have JL discontinued their Pima cotton range of pants? They were really popular.
(Good job I bulk bought a year or two ago)

EL8888 · 20/10/2020 14:45

@Doyoumind another vote for the shorts

BestZebbie · 20/10/2020 14:45

lekker: Those H&M pants look great, what size range would you say XS and S equate to in women? (As the model wears L and is a foot taller than me, I'm guessing L would be too large).

fourquenelles · 20/10/2020 14:45

Tesco's full briefs in packs of 5. I have a drawer full of black ones and they are as comfie as Sloggis but much much cheaper. I have an enormous arse and they cover that and the apron belly completely.

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 20/10/2020 14:46

Hold me closer tiny gusset...

I've been muttering for about eighteen months that Marks' knickers aren't what they once were ...glad to have my suspicions confirmed.

Sigh. There is something deeply wrong with the world when you can't trust an M&S pant Sad

Purplewithred · 20/10/2020 14:50

Ladies, please. Proper labia fit neatly into dainty gussets. If there is a mismatch between an item and a woman it's the woman at fault, we all know that. Take a good look at yourselves and get those labia trimmed. A quick search on Google will mess up your search history forever give you plenty of options, I'm sure.

Allergictoironing · 20/10/2020 14:50

I swear by the ASDA knickers, either high legs or full briefs. I have a large arse BTW.

SaveloyDip · 20/10/2020 14:51

I wear trunks/shorts/boxers whatever they are called and could never go back to the usual knicker style...my undercarriage would never forgive me!

Cadent · 20/10/2020 14:51

I’m still trying to work up the nerve to but period shorts but they’re £25 for one paid Shock

I know they’re an investment but it’s so Fannie hard
