Mystified by tiny gussets. Is there - is there something wrong with my undercarriage?

Never been able to understand how anyone could bear to wear thong-type pants. I've always just thought -surely they must ride up and get into - the bit you don't want interfered with by your clothing??? Never understood it.

Anyhow, I sent for some M&S pants. Look like normal pants. Nice soft fabric. Comfy. Put them on, head out for the day. And -- oh dear, turns out they have a mystifyingly narrow gusset with the consequences I would think were entirely predictable. Not comfy after all! Much hitching down required Grin And there wasn't even a warning!!!

Just - why?

Have I got a weird-shaped fanny? Is it unusually lacking in firmness? Is it in the wrong place?? How does anyone wear these things??

Full briefs, you'll never look back!

MaxNormal · 20/10/2020 12:27

Do you have a picture of the offending pants? Not actually on, I appreciate that would be a bit much although it would certainly add clarity to the post.

Chocaholic9 · 20/10/2020 12:27

I just wanted to say, I have had the same experience and I know other people! All the knickers I buy, the gussets are so tiny. I'm a size 8 and I always buy larger size knickers (anything from 12-16) because otherwise the back of them is always going up my bum or the gusset goes into my fanny. And I don't even have a large bum.

You are not abnormal. I think it's a grand conspiracy by the knicker companies to use less material and cut down on costs. Meanwhile we're all getting knickers lost in our undercarriage. Not cool. I wonder if men would put up with this nonsense?

Marcipex · 20/10/2020 12:28

I always think that the double-thickness bit is in the wrong place 🤔

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 20/10/2020 12:28

Tbh I have the opposite problem.

I mean, why the fuck are sanitary towels the width of the English Channel?

candycane222 · 20/10/2020 12:32

Ah yes Marcipex these particular pants also offended in that way as well.

I'm glad I'm not alone, though not glad that we have been robbed of our good money for useless wispy undies.

Usually I go for a standard big pant but was looking for higher legs as been having trouble with a tendon in my groin (nice!) - and they were pretty too! More fool me, back to the plain black cotton midi brief it is! Grin

I had this problem- next size up!

candycane222 · 20/10/2020 12:34

MilkTwo my dainty little daughter has that issue, she goes for a 'teen' style pad. She also wears thongs. We clearly are not cut from the same cloth!

Oh my god this. I wear not small knickers, M&S Brazilians, they're not small but you cannot wear a pad with them.
LoseLooseLucy · 20/10/2020 12:37

Have I got a weird-shaped fanny?

😂

If you have I have 🤔 I hate those little knicks.

LavenderBucket · 20/10/2020 12:38

The gusset to sanitary pad ratio is completely off. I reckon knicker makers should get together with sanitary pad makers and work through their measurements. Maybe meet in the middle....

Looked innocent enough I thought...

I already bought in a generous size BloodyCreate and they quite slippery, so next size up would probably fall off.

I'm with you on this too! I've only noticed it recently though and my pants are the same so it must be the towels. Tried a few different brands and they're all the same.
burnoutbabe · 20/10/2020 12:40

there was a thread a while ago. the gusset was in wrong place and most ladies have to position say a towel much further up forward than the gusset seems to suggest placement should be.

emmathedilemma · 20/10/2020 12:42

have you read the reviews? Seems you're not alone in your troubles!

Doyoumind · 20/10/2020 12:42

I tend to buy the shorts style pants. They have a wide gusset and are comfy without feeeling like granny pants.

Titterofwit · 20/10/2020 12:43

Even more mystifying is that the lighter colour ones in your link seem to have different dimensions to the black ones.

Doyoumind · 20/10/2020 12:46

Just looked at the M&S shorts ones and they actually look much narrower than they used to be. I don't buy my underwear from there anymore anyway.

Beni1993 · 20/10/2020 12:46

I'm more in shock that you spent £8 on a single pair of underwear Grin I don't think I've ever spent more than £5 on a multipack. You would think for that price you would get sufficient material Grin that being said, I do think that the gusset looks quite thin in the pictures

Grin !!!!

candycane222 · 20/10/2020 12:50

Ha, no I hadn't seen the reviews - should probably add to the chorus.

Its almost as if they were designed by what they look like on a mannequin and not a real person with -ah - fluids!

My santowel days are more or less over, but I do remember that issue - and some of my older pants have still got holes in from repeated unsticking of pads from an un-reinforced areas.

OP posts:
Bubbletrouble43 · 20/10/2020 12:51

The sanitary pad issue is why I wear dps man briefs when I'm on.

lilybetsy · 20/10/2020 12:51

like someone said up thread order BIG pants. I'm a 10 and my high legged pants range from 16 -20 ...
